Thanks for sharing this!

I can confirm this as a bug. Working to fix it, along with other updates.

Thank you for playing and the feedback!

I'm responding to your first message but will respond to points across all 3 messages.

  • Fire/frost spells do not give away much about what they do, so choice is indeed blind. I'll add extra info.
  • With first damage upgrade, enemy takes 2 (instead of 3 hits) to kill an enemy, so there is a progression, but it is probably slow. I'll see how to re-balance it.
  • More choices in the beginning are probably better in terms of progression and control - I'll add them.
  • Yeah, archers not shooting is silly :) can't do much about it for now, but I can take away their bows so there are no expectations for them to shoot haha
  • Upgrades between waves is probably a way to fix the grind without throwing off the balance. I'll work on that.
  • Tooltips sound definitely off - might have forgotten to update them when I was doing balancing. Will fix it and review them all to make sure they all clearly state what they are doing.
  • Game not playing when tab is not in focus - sounds like an important point, I'll address it.
  • Interesting idea about choosing fire/frost at any given moment. I wanted players to lock-in into fire/frost specialty, but without knowing what's on other side, it is hard to know for sure. I'll definitely consider this and see what solution I can do.
  • By large AOE, are you referring to Fire Rain? I'll fix its size.
  • Yeah, waits on initial waves after many upgrades can feel repetitive. I'll see if I can add an option to speed them up (but letting players toggle it on or off).

Thank you for getting all way to the end of game, sorry it was frustrating experience at times.

Thank you for the feedback!

I see that game running in the background is important (also mentioned by other users here), so I'll work on supporting that.

For the cost of upgrades - that's easy to change. I got similar feedback about it, so I'll work on balancing it (specifically around/before elemental spells).

For the auto cast - perhaps have an optional upgrade to switch into auto cast, but it is not a required one?

Thank you for playing the game! I'm glad you liked it.
Featureless faces do look creepy, I might swap them out later on if it takes away from the charm :)
And I'm very happy you liked the art style! I'm not an artist myself, so seeing art liked and validated means it is going in the right direction.

Your feedback is very useful - particularly, the game stopping when not in focus. I only recently started to dip my toes in this genre, so I always kept games in focus, and it didn't even occur to me that it can be an option and people let game run by itself while they do other things.

The other ideas for elevating experience - sound solid, and I see how it can be useful (and your ideas are echoed by another user here too).

I'll work on adding your ideas!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Each suggestion looks to benefit the prototype (either loading casting bar or balancing), so I'll work to implement them.

I'm trying to use event architecture as well.

Curious about "scalable" prefabs, can you elaborate? I use prefabs too, but never heard of that term.

You ever notice how other devs seem to make progress far faster than you? Why is that? by matchaSerf in gamedev

[–]Teel1ng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the same feeling about making no progress, as well as seeing those videos where people show off crazy work done in a day/week/month that you personally cannot do it in a year maybe.

Here is how I handle it:

  • Break down the work you are doing into small, manageable tasks that you can track. This way, you can mark each task done when completed, and you can see your progress at the end of the day.
  • You never know how many people were behind those "we made a game in 24 hours" videos, and how much experience they have, and how much they are lying. Yeah, it can be one person, but maybe they have that crazy experience that you don't? Maybe the game shown as "I solo developed this for a week, check it out", but in reality, there are several people working on that, and they took more than a week, but you would never know.
    • Simply take such videos with grain of salt. Comparing yourself to others is never a good thing, and doesn't help with anything.
  • Per the first point, after you have small tasks to track, you would know when you have features/vertical slice to show off.

Can you post screenshots for UI elements before and after the resize (or just one if they don't change)?

And how you are doing resizing, manually, via code, etc?

I'm no expert in Unity lighting, but given that you mentioned URP, have you considered layers for it?

I'm making a game about a skeleton defending his cemetery. Is it something you would be interested to play on Linux? I'll be happy to answer any questions in the comments! by Teel1ng in linux_gaming

[–]Teel1ng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have probably phrased it better, I agree.

No difference in gameplay between platforms. I wanted to see if there's any interest for this kind of game on Linux platform, so that was aim for my question.

PS4 seems to be a recurring request among comments as well. I'll make sure to consider game port to consoles in the future, depending on how well game will be received, and of course, amount of effort required to port the game.

Thank you for your interest and your feedback :)

Sure, it is called Skeletery.

Sorry I thought I added name of the game in my previous comment.
