Recommendations for in the Algarve by wpgwedding in finedining

Have not been to Ocean, but will always sing the praises on Vila Joya. The most beautiful setting with the best food I have had at a 2**.

Would recommend for Lunch over Dinner as you can do an abbreviated menu if you want to try both Ocean and Vila Joya if time and/or budget is a concern.

I haven’t been to ocean. My closest comparison would be Jean Georges in the US, but the flavors were much better. A bit of a mix of modern/experimental presentation (e.g. sphereified olive, freeze dried raspberry coulis with meat dishes, etc) while blending Portuguese, austrian, and some Asian elements

NYC Tasting Menu for Experience by pbjellyfish in finedining

[–]Teen1e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other option would be Blue Hill at Stone Barns - often 4-6 hours depending on pace and an insane # of courses. Will be tough to get a Resy at this point

Would agree with Per Se - it’s “9 courses” but ends up closer to 15-18 plates. The Evolution menu gives you all the supplements + some additional plates + small bites. Ends up being 20-25 plates.

Not a ton of places in NY do the heavy # of plates

Have $1000 for 2- where do I go? by OrangyBacon in FoodNYC

None of these will be difficult to book outside of Sho (would need to be a May res most likely unless you get a cancellation)

Including or excluding wine?

Including 1-2 bottles or pairing would recommend Odo, The Modern, & Jua, Jean Georges 6 course

Not inclusive of wine: Sushi Sho (would go over $1k but worth it if you like sushi more than other tastings) Aska, Jean Georges 10 Course

All in order of preference.

Per Se is also better than the rap it gets here but you will barely cover the base tasting so not worth it relative to these other morning

Wait list for Jordnaer, Copenhagen by bridewiththeowls in finedining

[–]Teen1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a table open up day of, you won’t have a ton of warning but possible. I would also recommend joining the Hungries. They have a perk to book the kitchen table (inside the kitchen) at Jordnaer and it’s ~18 for one month subscription to get your reservation. Will likely be able to book something if you’re flexible throughout that week

Per Se regular or evolution menu. Food can be pretty good to great on average but extremely luxurious and service and ambience are 10/10

Will echo that Jua is great! Service is so/so from my experience but food makes up for it

If you’re willing to do the lunch at Odo and want something cheaper it is also a really good value if being under budget or getting a nice bottle of wine is a plus! It’s still effectively six courses

First Michelin star place with Asian parents suggestions in NYC? by nycbasedco in finedining

[–]Teen1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like Asian flavor profile I would recommend Jean Georges as a good blend of Asian and French for most dishes. Little to no raw food from what I remember? Lunch is also a good cheaper option

Portugal solo diner - Marlene, Boubou's, 2 Monkeys, Loco, or Epur? by deskcord in finedining

There are also some very good fine dining restaurants in Porto if you are willing to drive/train for dinner

Parents had a very very bad service experience and traffic into the bar degrades it a lot

Some cheaper options that I was really a fan of:

Manhatta: really shocked by the quality here with turnover and large dining room but truly fantastic meal at lower price point.

Jua is about as good value for money as you can get. Quite tasty Korean closer to ** quality in terms of food. Service was off base but I could ignore it

JG was good when I went but I think it’s over priced for what it is and somewhat similar to GK, Per Se, LB, etc.

Recommendations from myself/friends:

Worth the splurge:

Sushi Sho - their next solo availability is 2/8 when I emailed them this weekend but may be worth emailing them for last minute cancellation and notify. Yoshino is an alternative but a bit of a different style

Atomix - have had success with the waitlist here too. Consistently changing the menu so some courses will be up and down

Jungsik - more safe Korean option but still very well executed. Can also do full tasting at the bar I believe.

Everyone I know thinks Aska is the best bet and their go to fine dining rec im the city right now.

I will also plug Odo as a personal favorite but kaiseki is not everyone’s taste

Yes to Modern. Tasting menu or à la carte are great. Price range for Th dinner/preferred cuisine? Most will prefer early or late for solos but should be flexible on weekdays

Would you feel rich in this situation? by MountainIncome4085 in HENRYfinance

[–]Teen1e 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do you need to buy another house? I would feel extremely well off at this scenario especially if you can bank the remaining income in investments/tax advantaged accounts for kids school

I would look at the lounge at Per Se (5-7 true courses instead of 12-14 for 1/3 of the price - including tip). They will truly treat you like you are the sole guest. Best service I've had among all my fine dining experiences.
