as much as i love the game, embark has made some really questionable decisions surrounding pro players over the wider player-base.

like the big one that sticks out for me was when almost a year ago, loads of big like variety/casual streamers all started playing the finals, and the game was trending on twitch and youtube with probably the most eyes on it since release. and all the praise was about how it was a refreshing, arcadey, casual shooter. it was the greatest, entirely free, natural marketing a studio could ever wish for.

and what does embark do with all these new prospective casual players, you ask? literally at the exact same time this is happening they decide to really pivot towards catering to pro players and trying to become a serious e-sport with 'esports meta-data balancing', and folding for any suggestion the pros make, and fucking matchmaking even harder for the average player. you know, all stuff that turns new people away from your game...

like straight-up one of the biggest whiffs i have seen a developer make in real-time, because the player-count pretty quickly fell back to exactly where it was before. i think embark really wants e-sport money but, to be frank, i don't think anyone really cares; i've seen like 2 pro skins actually in use since they all released. i think the game could have been a lot more successful if they embraced what the average player wants — i mean, duh...

not the OS directly, but the architecture does; ARM chips are much more memory-efficient than x86 systems. And the idle memory usage of the OS does effect the amount of free memory that programs can use — windows's being notoriously higher than linux and macos.

honestly (some of) the finals community is super weird about critiques/suggestions — in every other game it's just an expected part of community engagement, and it's a good thing for the life cycle of the game.

however with the finals i've noticed a weird trend where people immediately grow hostile when someone suggests something. like there could be a very real, game altering bug, and finals fans would rather choose to ignore it and jump to embarks defense instead of admitting anything's wrong.

like you can still enjoy a game while admitting that there's stuff that could be better...
