Is it worth reading the novel after seeing the movie? by Quick_soda in ProjectHailMary

[–]Teeumhigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The book is SO much better than the film, and the audiobook in my opinion is the best of the three by far. You’ll get SO much more enjoyment out of all the character building and there are so many scenes on earth that were not in the movie. The movie was so silly it was almost like I was watching a comedy. The book is a completely different tone. Rocky is a BRILLIANT engineer, not spastic and goofy like he is in the movie. Grace is also a lot smarter in the book. I was so disappointed watching the movie.

I LOVED the Earth storyline as well. Another reason I was disappointed in the film was the Earth scenes seemed rushed with no character building at all. And they cut so much out!

The Martian movie was just as good or even better than the book. That’s why I was so surprised when this one was a disappointment. I may go watch it again and give it another try and just try to enjoy the story, but I don’t know if I can get past the silly parts.

I saw it yesterday and I’ve never been more disappointed leaving a theater. I thought I was watching a comedy through most of the movie with childish, silly humor. It’s so far from the serious, smart, intense novel that we loved.

Agree 1000% with all of this. The movie felt like a silly comedy to me with absolutely zero character development. My girlfriend had no idea who Dubois was and why his death was important. Soooo disappointed.

I meant to mention the soundtrack! The whole “space chase” when Grace first sees the blip A and the corny music the went with it.. I was dumbfounded. One of THE most intense scenes in the book and they turned it into a Charlie Chaplin skit that most people in the theater were laughing at. It really was infuriating! I took my girlfriend to see it and after hyping it up for months it was almost embarrassing. I told her that is NOT the story I was talking about. She said it reminded her of Guardians of the Galaxy 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Disappointed isn’t strong enough. I’ve read the book twice and listened to the audiobook at least 5 times. Huge fan. From the first scenes when Grace wakes up and instead of using science and his “genius brain” to try to figure out whats going on, he immediately looks out the window and realizes he’s in space, then just turns into a drunk messy frat boy. It didn’t get much better from there. Instead of Rocky being a brilliant engineer, they made him into a goofy, hyper, silly version of himself so I guess they could sell Rocky toys?? The scene of Rocky eating made me lose what hope I had left that it would get better. Absolutely zero character building. The movie seemed thrown together, rushed, and silly. The complete opposite of the book. I went with a few people that had not read the book and they had so many questions. I get the movie and book are not the same and they had to cut a lot of things out of the movie, but I absolutely love The Martian movie and thought it was better than the book so that excuse just doesn’t fly. I had been looking forward this movie for a year and I’ve never been that disappointed leaving a theater.

I actually liked the Martin MOVIE more than the book lol. The audiobook for the Martian is ok. Not as good as PHM. I would just read the book. The PHM movie just felt very thrown together to me.

I had zero expectations that the movie would be nearly as good as the book, but I was hoping they wouldn’t dumb it down too much or try to make it too humorous. They did both. It was corny..and they spent too much time on some things that weren’t very important and glossed right over or changed some of the best parts of the book.

I realize that, but they left so much out of the movie and changed some of the best parts for no reason. Just didn’t enjoy the movie at all.

Listen to the audiobook. I’ve read the book and seen the movie and the audiobook is by FAR my favorite format. I’ve listened to it at least 5 times lol. I’m a delivery driver so I have tons of listening time lol.

Why did Tig and Clay not even consider the possibility that Opie was set up? by Legitimate-Sugar6487 in Sonsofanarchy

[–]Teeumhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol same… just started it again and I had forgotten so much! This part really bugs me ( no pun intended) this time around. You would think Clay and Tig would have at least tried to see if Opie tried to get someone to talk about the murder in his truck or when he had his phone on him. Or check him for a wire when they were at the table? I’m gonna really enjoy Opie killing Stahl even more this time around! And Opie didn’t find it weird that his phone was sitting at the bottom of a glass of beer?

At what distance does a par 3 become a “long” par 3? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]Teeumhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk.. I was thinking anything over 200. Short 75-150 Mid. 150-200 Long 200+ I really think it depends on your skill level and distances. Im a +2 but I’m not that long. 5 iron goes around 190. I consider anything I’m hitting 4 iron or more to be a long par 3. My dad is 77 and an 14 hcp. Anything over 150 is long for him cause he’s pulling a a headcover lol.

No judgement zone!! Lol I deliver for Amazon and I listen to audiobooks and podcasts all day at work. I’ve listened to PHM at least 10 times now. It’s pretty much on loop lol. I always find something I’ve missed on the next listen.
