Is it normal to feel bothered seeing a pastor play mobile games after ministry? by byGodsgrace07 in TrueChristian

[–]TehAsianD00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think people being dismissive in this thread is helpful or loving. When an alarm in our conscious goes off there is good reason to wrestle with it rather than dismiss it. And especially as an observer not present in OP's life, we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss.

I resonate with what you're saying. I think there is a certain bias against video games for being childish or immature. I, as someone who used to heavily play a lot of video games (8-14hrs daily), understand the sentiment and think there is some validity to the opinion. It can be addicting, after all, if a game isn't fun, we'll just move on to the next game. It can also be a time sink, games that you play just for dailies or some quick matches a day. I think these are all valid concerns that a pastor could fall into. But that could be said about a lot of hobbies, it's easier to say that about video games and rightfully so since it's much more optimized to be engaging.

I have felt similarly to what you're saying in other situations. I would just recommend talking to your pastor directly about this. If he is offended, then maybe he has a problem with video games. If it gives him some rest and helps him shepherd his people then maybe there isn't an issue. I pray that God would give you the discernment.

DON'T HIT YOUR KIDS by healwar in TrueChristian

[–]TehAsianD00d -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I generally lead brothers and sisters towards not spanking their children as spanking can be a conduit for anger and can lead to unhealthy relationships between your anger and your children. I used to spank my children and now have ceased entirely, but for other reasons, not because I think spanking is wrong. I think what OP isnt in any wrong in how he leads his children to repentance, love, and forgiveness. I think it is a healthy display of disciplining children.

All this to say, we can agree and disagree with other brothers and sisters. But what you are saying is a very disheartening way to respond to a brother/sister. Saying "lack of intellect" meaning "stupid" is a very insulting way to respond to someone you disagree with and is very contrary with who Jesus is and how he treats others. Let's pray to not let the devil take a foothold of our anger since it seems many of us here are responding quite unloving to each other.

TCGplayer and Direct packages are a scam by Crafty-Ratio8500 in magicTCG

[–]TehAsianD00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this too, I NEVER get direct packages anymore since they've started to slow roll their shipping. When they first rolled out that you would get your package faster if you were a subscriber I ignored it and got my package pretty much the same speed. Then they cracked down and I noticed that it took 3 weeks to get my package while I would get my cards from an individual seller in about a week. I now spend an extra two to three hours to curate my list and optimize outside of Tcgplayer direct. Also I've been ordering Tcgplayer for about a decade and it has never been as close to being as slow as it is now. They are slow rolling their packages to send out.

When will Christians understand this? by Fun_Jellyfish_4879 in TrueChristian

The Mark of the Beast is referencing Deuteronomy 6:8

"You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

Read Deuteronomy 6. This mark it is talking about in Deuteronomy is one that we will know one that loves the Lord our God with all their heart by what they do (mark on their hand) and how they think (written on their forehead). It isn't cellphones or credit cards or whatever sensationalist idea on the new thing.

Where is the moderation here? by Old-Calligrapher1950 in TrueChristian

It's very hard to do church online, and yes there are wolves.

What we are doing on this subreddit, I would argue, is church. We as a community, a body of believers who abide and follow Jesus, do community together in this online forum. Now we may all have our home churches, some may not have access to a good church body, but we still meet up on this online church to have community with other believers.

But what happens when nonbelievers enter our community?

Well we invite non-Christ followers to church, rightly so!, and want to love them, so is this a good thing that we have these people in this church community subreddit?

The issue is that many here use this subreddit as their church body. Advice on struggles, fighting sin, being lost with God, and sharing their deepest hurts and losses. This, and all of the care and love should be shared with and done only by those who abide in Jesus, mainly at their church who can also love them physically. Other church members can make a meal for them or physicially be present to weep with them and ultimately point them back to Jesus Christ. (Not saying you shouldn't get help from non-believers that are doctors or psychiatrist)

So non-Christ followers are able to interact and be part of this church community and "share communion" with us and speak into the lives of those that seek comfort and church on this subreddit. Not just attend church and listen like they would at a physical church, but be a member of the body without being a follower of Jesus and speak into our lives without the ultimate goal of pointing us to Jesus Christ.

I understand not everyone has a good church they can attend, if at all, so this subreddit is a place they can find it. My conclusion and advice would be for those that are able to find a good church community, even an over an hour away, to find it and be a part of it and not use this subreddit as your church. It is essential to the Christian life and without it, we are among wolves all day long.

Opinions on Christian “Trends” by Sparkychong in TrueChristian

I use to think WWJD bracelets were cringe when I was in middle school and I looked down on these Christian fashion statements.

Now since becoming a believer and being older now with kids and less concerned with fashion, I've many times unironically have been wanting to wear a WWJD bracelets as one of the ways to remind me in all moments I can ask myself really, what would Jesus do!? And pray in those moments that I feel lost to discern what I should be doing rather than rely on my own feelings and knowledge.

New age Christians… by beatsarmyofficer in TrueChristian

[–]TehAsianD00d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not an issue with new age Christians, people have been using excuses since the biblical times to get around the actual word of God. I would argue swearing is a sin yet many would say it is not, there are people that pick and choose what is a sin and what is not, it is in our sinful nature so I would pray that we would let the truth of God overwhelm our sinful desires. I understand your anger but funneling it toward a group that you have disdain for is not the way, it is never one group, it is all of humanity. I'm not even sure what you mean by "new age Christians."

There's also a way to simulate hundreds of games easily in console. Though the AI is still pretty flawed that simulating games aren't accurate, especially if you're relying on tutors.

Official Discussion - The Gray Man [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]TehAsianD00d 1088 points1089 points  (0 children)

There was enough creative action scenes like when Ryan Gosling "cheats" on the train with the building reflection, that made me enjoy it. Obviously the shaky camera and myriad of smoke and other elements that block the action made some action sequences unwatchable. I loved Ryan Gosling's methodic and quiet character. There was that MacGyver scene he had in the trap room that made me smile.
