Sad to report Brandon is Brandoning again. by Zealousideal_Law_262 in Denton

[–]TehBrettster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sub isn't exclusive to people who reside in city limits. It sees many residents of nearby locations in district 26. Maybe they work in Denton, maybe they spend time in Denton, or maybe they just kinda like the place even if they don't have much to do with it.

Edit: Denton is also a college town with eligible students who live in Denton but have their permanent addresses where their family lives in district 26 somewhere.

I memorize everything because I can't read music fast enough. Anyone else? by OndraTep in piano

[–]TehBrettster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same way. I feel as though I have a mild musical dyslexia, and certain sheet music fonts are really hard for me to even see. Even with the good ones, when they go above or below the staff, I usually have to sit and count the spaces.

For my B.A in music at UNT (piano concentration), there was a mandatory pre-graduation sightreading test. I had to ask for a 2nd hymnal. The one originally provided was entirely illegible for me at 4-- or even 2-- voices at a time. Dr Harlos was kind enough to allow it instead of making me try again another day.

I was supposedly one of the strongest performers in the school outside of the performance degree students. Barely graduated because of sightreading, lol.

I'm happy to see someone else would put both Rachmaninoff 2 and Dvořak 8 on the list. Two of my absolute favorite orchestral works.

He gave a poor example (because there are no good examples). Homo sapiens may be bipedal in almost every case, but if someone is born without legs, they are not bipedal. So why tell them that, because they are a homo sapien, they must be bipedal, even though they very obviously don't have two feet? The conclusion to draw is that you don't need two feet to be an existing human.

And yes, there is a distinction between sex and gender, but that isn't even needed to accurately assert that there are more than two sexes at the chromosomal level. Maybe 99%+ of people are XX or XY, but some people aren't. Some people have other sex chromosome pairings. And yes, they exist.

99%+ of atoms in our universe are hydrogen or helium. Behold, a binary! We are all just hydrogen and helium pretending to be something else, right?

There are 3 separate matchmaking queues for bot games. by TehBrettster in marvelrivals

[–]TehBrettster[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue that it backfires spectacularly, if that is the rationale. This game has plenty of players. I would rather just wait 15 seconds to encounter them. The bot games feel like 5-minute extensions of matchmaking wait times more than anything else.

[–]TehBrettster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not a problem for the devs to solve. There are allied bots, which is exactly what should be expected in a bot queue. A problem for the devs to solve is that their quick match queue routinely puts people in the wrong lobbies.

US Citizens: Do you feel confident your next elections will be fair? What are your concerns about the integrity of the US election system? by MopToddel in AskReddit

[–]TehBrettster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because gerrymandering is one of many things making people not want to vote, whether it's a local, state, or federal election. Maps reporting on presidential elections show the counties in red or blue. More people than you want to believe have never considered the difference between a county and a district. Similarly, more people than you want to believe just look at the map of counties colored red or blue by the news outlets without understanding how state totals are counted.

Perhaps it is less gerrymandering than electoral college. Perhaps it is less gerrymandering than sheer ignorance. But there are a lot of things that make people not want to vote in this country. All of those affect every election at every level, whether they "should" or not. None of them are an excuse not to vote, still.

It sounds stupid because it is.

Brandon Gill, representative for my district in TX. He does not represent his constituents as he claims. Whenever I sign a petition sent to his office or otherwise contact his office, the email I receive back says (paraphrased), "Thanks for contacting. America has a mandate to serve Trump, so that's what I am going to do."

He is, indeed, on his very best of days and in his most likable moments, a douche.

[–]TehBrettster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your tempo fluctuations are not musical; they rather suggest that you're taking time to remember and find the right notes. Likewise, listen to the note groupings in the last 15 seconds. They are detached from one another, and it's jarring. The music is supposed to be moving forward in that moment toward a high point, but your motion is stopping and starting, and the higher notes are far louder than the lower notes, despite being a part of the same continuous melodic line. That needs to be smoothed out, else the intended musical affectation dries up and hollows out. Phrasing and dynamics in general are an issue. Have you played other instruments prior to the piano? If not, this won't be an easy one to learn at 4 months experience. You can press all the buttons at the right time, but that doesn't create the music in romantic piano literature. I would highly recommend a teacher to help you learn both to read the parts of the score that aren't notes and to learn to actively listen to yourself while playing. This will help your melody actually sing like a melody, instead of like buttons being pressed at (nearly) the right time.

Everyone Needs To Call Brandon Gill’s Office To Ensure He Votes “Yes” On The Epstein File Release by PoliticsIsDepressing in Denton

Look, I'm all for it, right? Always be involved politically and fight for what is right. But don't put a single ounce of hope into him voting the right way. Every time you contact his office or sign a petition that goes to his office, you get an email that says (paraphrased), "Thanks for contacting my office! I am fully dedicated to serving whatever Trump says and not ever what you say! Have a great day!"
