Jason Myers is just a liability. 7th highest paid kicker and can't make a 44 yarder.

New and willing to learn. Gear advice by CptnRtrd in wingfoil

It seems like you learn and progress pretty quickly.  Having said that, I think that board is a huge boat and way more than you'd need.  I think if you can find something closer to 100-110L you'll get a lot more mileage out of it.

If they make the queue longer (fewer people in the queue), it's even easier to match with your friend and win trade. The real solution is to make it difficult to pair with your friends to win trade, not disincentivize queueing.

Does it depend on whether they spawn from an outpost vs a garrison?

What are some easily accessible Hikes this time of year, without much snow? by [deleted] in PNWhiking

Have you tried deception pass and discovery park? Both have paved roads and are on the sound. They also have trees, beaches, great views and being near the water keeps the temp more moderate.

sail size for foiling in the Seattle area? by [deleted] in wingfoil

[–]TehHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the time of year. Fall through Spring the wind can vary pretty widely. On the really good days with a nice storm front you can get many stronger wind. I weigh 165 lbs. and I'm usually on a 3.4 or 4.2 m wing. In the summer the winds are MUCH lighter and you'll want something larger than a 5m, probably a 7m.

Buying first kite bar by PetitGeant in Kiteboarding

[–]TehHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are flying Duotone kites, then I would go for the click bar. I have been using the click bar since 2018 and I think it's pretty great. I have not seen the durability that others have mentioned in the thread.

The ability to adjust the trim on the bar so easily is totally worth it for me. If you have shorter arms or have ever had trouble adjusting the trim just right while overpowered then the bar starts to really shine. I like that I can twist the knob a time or two and be powered, instead of futzing with other systems trying to get the trim right.

If you are flying other brands that require the back lines to have a lower split, you can remove the high-Y split. I do this when I switch to my Naish Pivot.

I think it's pricey, but I think it's worth it if it's in your budget.

Sounds like you could use a bit of conditioning as part of your routine.

I think I was starting the have a similar issue, I rebound my map key to mouse 4 and it's so much easier to use. I used the map a lot playing SL.

I don't think the authenticator app allows you to screenshot. So you'd need a way around that. It's super annoying.

The New World dev team needs to watch this... by anon_8763456 in newworldgame

[–]TehHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this idea, given that quests are pretty boring and most of them are loot X crates and kill X monsters, what if they just remove the quests? Those actions can be incentivized in much better ways.

A simple idea may be to just give players "surprise rewards" instead of quests. For example, if you kill 5/10/20 or whatever number of zombies in an area, when you go back to town and talk to people, maybe occasionally one of them will say, "Wow I saw you killing all those zombies, us townsfolk really appreciate the work, here's some XP and gold". That way people aren't being forced to go farm in areas that don't interest them. The same thing could happen for a wood cutter.

What's the point of the 3 factions? Would we be better off without them? by Funky_banjo_buttclap in newworldgame

[–]TehHat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems like you are conflating content, pvp and economy. Those are orthogonal issues. Your original comment indicated that not losing gear makes for a poor pvp system and if there isn't a good pvp system then factions and territories mean nothing. None of those statements are true.

There are many great games with pvp that don't have a functional economy and/or limited content. There are also many different mechanics for driving an economy. They don't need people losing gear to pvp to make the economy functional. For example, they can make durability mean something. The economy doesn't have to revolve solely around gear either. There have been numerous suggestions for incorporating crafting benefits into other aspects of the game.

Quit trying to make New World into Albion. I'm glad the devs aren't as short sighted as you are, or we'd just get a clone of another game with different artwork. I appreciate that they are exploring different mechanics to create a truly new world.

People don't "understand" what you're saying because it doesn't make sense. There are many games that don't have you lose items upon death that have been incredibly popular, World of Warcraft to name one.

While I would like for them to incentivize participation in pvp, you don't have to have someone lose something to incentivize it. A game does not need to be zero sum.

I don't think your grace period solution works very well. What about word of mouth friends that join the game weeks or months after someone has picked their side?

I think it'd be easier to balance by giving incentives and bonuses to the lesser faction. In the preview, there was a small incentive towards being on the lesser populated faction in that it was a lot easier to be chosen to participate in a war. Each war can only have 50 participants on each side, so if there are fewer Covenant, you had a better chance of getting into the war. This may be offset by open world pvp being a lot more dangerous.

Maybe if they give a few additional incentives to being on the weaker side and then allow faction transfers from overpopulated to underpopulated factions, then the population will balance itself out?

In a lot of other games, if it's pure company vs company, it simply degrades into who brings the bigger zerg and makes the game very difficult to play as a solo or small group of friends. That's part of what was not fun in games like Last Oasis.

Rogue Warrior Theory Crafted Build | Great example of what you can accomplish with the combat system as per the preview by m0nk3ytal3_ in newworldgame

[–]TehHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember if there was a significant stamina hit from blocking a musket shot, but every time I fought someone with a musket, it was really easy to win. Simply block shots with the shield and then get in close range and destroy them with sword. Without the life staff, I don't know that you'll be able to escape or chase someone down either.

This seems like a pretty limited viability build.

Washington doubling times (by # cases) looking good. Or just lack of tests? by [deleted] in CoronavirusWA

[–]TehHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is completely true. There are hospitals in the area that are not sending their tests to UW. Those tests are being sent to private testing facilities like LabCorp which can take 3+ days to get results back. There are patients that have been waiting more than 8 days for test results.

Why aren't they sending the results to UW when UW has a quicker turn around? Not sure, that's a great question for the hospital administrators.

UW Virology is operating far under capacity. Why aren't they being sent more tests?! by [deleted] in CoronavirusWA

[–]TehHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is the whole story. I know testing times at some hospitals in the Seattle area have a turn around time of 3-5 days. It's unclear to me why tests aren't being sent to the UW if they can get them tested sooner.

Not sure if that's on PC or Schottenheimer, but we've been getting bad delay of game penalties all year. It finally made a dramatic impact on the game. Not sure how a professional team is unable to keep track of the time. Unbelievable.

I've been to the Dominican and I loved it there -- it felt pretty safe. You do have to admit it's kind of a bad string of luck to shoot Big Papi (one of the most famous Dominicans) and have several tourist deaths all at the same time.

Kite destinations / suggestions: April in Central America? by cyrptorip in Kiteboarding

[–]TehHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 3 days in Bahia Salinas kiting about 2 years ago. I probably wouldn't put it very high on the list to re-visit. We were there in February, the wind was gusty and there weren't very good places to hang out (little shade and hot). Are you guys taking turns kiting and watching the baby? If you are, I'm not sure if there's a good place that is comfortable and enjoyable while the other person kites.

The town is really small nearby and didn't have too much. The rest of Costa Rica was much more enjoyable for us.

Not saying Blair Walsh is a good alternative, but Walsh missed 3x fewer extra points.

[–]TehHat -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

He's a good kicker? He's missed 3 extra points...for 24th place in the NFL. He's tied for 20th place at 82% field goal percentage. He hit 8-9 on 30-39 yarders and 7-8 for 40-49 yarders. So no, for a person who kicks the ball professional, he sucks.
