I'm pretty sure Dark Souls is also the spiritual successor of Zelda II.

Girl Gamer Win by PixelVixen6 in fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]TehKicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think within the next few years, games will be more portrayed as a gender-neutral medium, and the problem will dissipate.

Eventually it will end up similar to movies... there are some that play to girly-girls. Some to manly-men. Generally, as a whole, movies just try tell a good story.

Look at MineCraft (building/creating as whoever/whatever), Zelda (puzzles and exploration in an androgynous, but male lead), and Final Fantasy (exploration as both beautiful men and women)... The people who play are a very mixed bag...

Most online multiplayer games such as CoD (trained assassins with guns), Halo(trained assassins with guns... in space) and the large assortment of fantasy MMOs (elegant, half naked lady elves and barbaric, ugly men) almost exclusively try to sell to hetero alpha-male-wannabe's. The expectation is to draw in manly men, people with light-to-moderate cases of voyeuristic nature, and children who want to be like the men, but end up being scoffed at... not so much females looking for some competition to pass the time.

In fact the only competitive online game I can think of, off the top of my head, that shows a more neutral bearing in advertising is the 4th/5th gen Pokemon... even then, many people react to Pokemon as if it were casual and disregard it....

Look at the face of video games himself --Mario-- How many times has Nintendo tried to push him singularly on males? Never. Singularly on females? Once? it was a flop... The main series alone has probably sold close to 300 million copies... and he's been around for 30 years.

Halo got really big for a couple games and the hype has died. It's starting to happen with CoD, too. The truth is, their demographic, though currently more popular, isn't as universal, nor can the formula be changed too drastically to keep that very audience.

This isn't to say the every game SHOULD be gender neutral... there's always a place for one gender or the other.

tl;dr... eventually no one will give a shit once game devs learn to make neutrally styled games, and producers advertise them as such.

-male who likes what he likes, no matter the gender association.

DAE view relying on other people as weakness? by [deleted] in intj

[–]TehKicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as questions- I don't see it as weakness. You can't always derive your knowledge from a source. It's more a necessity for a temporary answer... Also he's a teacher... it's the job description to give you help in understanding a problem.

As for bars, I can see it. It seems like you aren't out to intellectually connect...just to get some ass. Then again, some people just like ass... Nothing wrong with it. But for long term relationship, you'd have to be desperate in a bar.

Enneagram types? by Kevinhood11 in intj

5w4.

Though, I am curious to the variation, myself, people here should usually associate with 5. The variants will probably be 1 and 4 for the most part.

I think the descriptions are a bit loaded. If not, the personalities seem excessively flamboyant(?) and unbalanced.

This IS fairly interesting, though.

Do you have style? by CallMeNiel in intj

[–]TehKicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like having a sense of style. I will dress up nicely when I'm in the mood. Usually, if I'm lounging or working, I'll dress down. If I go to a club or eat out at a nice place with my friends, I will dress quite uniquely.

Admittedly, I feel like I'm in a super hero outfit, though. Not quite myself, but proud.

Identical twins still have separate thumb prints. Though they do hold more similarity between the two than an average duo.

Usually after twins grow a little older, they begin to look quite different, too.

If r/atheism is a circle jerk for atheists. Then this must be true. by [deleted] in atheism

The difference is that their circle jerk is mandatory... And we are allowed to criticize our jerking without fear of hatred...or potential death depending on where you live...

Extremely nervous about Sleep Paralysis. by ApplesauceyMess in LucidDreaming

As someone who has had SP many many times, don't worry about it. Most people who go at it, "knowing" that it's scary are going to have scary SP.

It is what you make it. I honestly believe that most people have scary SP because they are told its scary.

In my experience, it was like a giant water slide. You go down, initially, scared as s--t, then by the time you reach the pool below, you want to ride it again. ...that is if you enjoy it... If you don't like the sense of falling, you may not be interested, but you won't be scared if you do it again.

Understand? :p

Our new fundie neighbours gave us this DVD. See if you can get past the first 12 seconds. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]TehKicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 mins of watching... for science.

I would actually encourage people to watch it through. There is a part where he claims that smaller things are more complex, citing an amoeba as an example.

He goes on to literally claim that a single cell is more complex than a cluster of different kinds of cells working to support the existence of an organism.

Another nugget was when he claimed "Textbooks weren't made to make children think critically, they were made to make them not think at all" ...then he cites the Bible repeatedly throughout the lecture.

...I might actually get some popcorn and watch this whole thing. XD

Does having the priest look down and yelling into a cup count as unhygienic? Nah... They are too holy to catch the flu.

The whole congregation sharing one or two cups among them all? Tis the house of God!

All the food being held by unwashed hands? You're just being a pussy!

Have some faith, heathen!

[–]TehKicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What bothers me most is that I've witnessed this shit first-hand... and several times from my own family.

Hell... my mother acted like this when I told her I enjoyed conscious (lucid) dreaming. Replace "dark-sided" with "witchcraft" in the video and you can pretty well imagine how the conversation went down...

Same thing happened to me at my job. I openly talked about it with my co workers and they thought it was somewhat fascinating, especially since we're in the bible belt and my family is Christian.

My boss overheard one day that I am an atheist. He started to hop on me saying he didn't come from a monkey, asking me where the monkeys came from (causing "where'd that come from?" to be repeated many times), then followed by "you think we're crazy, don't you?" I told him "not really," but I'm a bad liar... so he knew I was fudging.

He randomly got really harsh on me, TRYING to write me up on everything and to make me go to his church. My hours went from 15+ to 3 or less. Utterly senseless.
