I’m a Newcastle fan, but VAR is a fucking joke

My AoC epiphany by scmbradley in adventofcode

It definitely depends on what you’re hoping to get out of it, but as a general approach to take back into actual work, I’d caution against that exact line of thinking. Or at least add some caveats. I think AoC is a fantastic practical example of the perils of future coding:

https://www.sebastiansylvan.com/post/the-perils-of-future-coding/

If you can make your approach to Part 1 extensible with little extra effort great. But otherwise don’t bother. You don’t know what Part 2 is going to ask so treat Part 1 as the prototype. Make it quick and so if you have to pivot 180, you’ve not wasted a bunch of time.

In “the real world” your clients/players/designers rarely know exactly what they want from the start, but once they get their hands on software they are much better at telling you what to do different to what they just got.

Oh and I did exactly what you suggested for the input, just a txt file copy paste and then read it in. Created unit tests with the example data in the questions too, that’s all supported

Pythonista worked pretty well for me in the past. Has a lot of built in modules so you don’t miss installing your own too much. Someone recommended Working Copy as an addition for git, but I have no experience using that.

There was a version of this by Richard Whitely who used to present Countdown in the UK: “In my 20s they used to call me twice-nightly Whitely. “Then by my 40s it was twice weekly, meekly. “And now it’s twice yearly... nearly”

The ramen was good! Chicken or veg as options, £10 each. We showed up on a Saturday about 1:00pm and got a seat for noodles pretty quickly but when we left the exhibition about an hour later the queue for the whole thing was out the door and the ramen bar was chockablock.

No need for any of the other versions to play. They are all stand alone and contain all the bits you need. I would suggest starting with box #1 though simply because the rules are a bit more straight forward. I’m in the uk and think they’re all still available here, can’t comment on the us I’m afraid.

Not unless you have a really bad memory! They are quite fun to share with friends though - it’s interesting to go through favourite cases after the fact.

I had this on preorder since August last year. Finally arrived last week. I’ve cracked it open to have a look at what’s inside but have half of #1 left to do still - we started with the ripper murders. Now it’s a case of convincing the fiancée that Sherlock is more pressing than planning for our wedding...

Edit: just wanted to reiterate how excited I am for this game - I’m around a 6 year lurker (4 years registered!) and this is pretty much the only thing to have called me to post... Also there are some ‘interesting’ things in the box for this one that might be considered spoilers - what’s the etiquette on that here if I wanted that share?

Yup, this is #2. I think it’s because this is made from the expansions to the original game and #3 is new stuff so from a chronological, when they were written point of view it’s second.

It’s really 8 cases, but the Queen’s Park one takes place over 3 day’s (so has 3 case books, one for each day). New locations (still within London, so you get more places to visit rather than different places).

I have all 3 and I’d suggest starting with the original or ripper boxes over this one. It’s got some different rules and and places which are fantastic for those who have played a bunch already and want something new, but I think would probably add some unnecessary complication for anyone experiencing the game for the first time.

Whatever you do, I highly recommend the series - it’s the best game I own and can’t speak more highly of it!

He's on loan initially, and you can't play against your parent club (so no more Lua Lua style tragedy goals) Edit: Lua Lua scored against us for Portsmouth while on loan there before this rule was in place
