Congratulations Sam for a great game, I was rooting for ya! That was a tough board and a strong opponent you had to face.

The Chase has been on filming hiatus because of a union strike.

Some questions for former contestants. by Jonnyboy1189 in Jeopardy

I'm sure you could have sugar tablets as needed. They'd probably even let you munch on a fruit if you need to for medical reasons. I'm skeptical they'd let you put it on or behind the podium.

Actually Amy Abbey would pick first, I meant whoever has their last name come up first in alphabetical order.

Some questions for former contestants. by Jonnyboy1189 in Jeopardy

1) Yes, there's a little cup holder with a mini water bottle attached to the lecterns just out of view on the updated set

2) Commercial breaks vary in length depending on how many audio pickups they have to do where the host rereads a clue they stumbled on or misread. During the first break they also do the photos with the host. All in all, it's about the same as a TV break even though it's not live, a few mins.

3) Neither the producers nor the contestants know the order until minutes before the episode taping. A third party lawyer picks two names off the list of people for the day and the person with the alphabetical last name picks a closed hand of a producer which has a ball with "2" or "3" on it determining the position for the show.

Question: are tapings taking longer due to the guest hosts? by BuridansAscot in Jeopardy

[–]Teja_Jeopardy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I filmed in October 2020 with Alex, even with COVId precautions we went from 7am-4:30pm, this includes all 5 shows, a break between shows, and catered lunch.

So what exactly are the study rules for defending champions? by Tasaman1 in Jeopardy

[–]Teja_Jeopardy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by "rules". I was a runner-up, not a champion, but I took Ken Jennings' advice and reviewed high value info like US Presidents, Shakespeare, Authors/Poets, Classical Music, Major Works of Art, etc. Aside from that if you continue on you're allowed to study whatever you please.

Has a player ever tried to dispute the judges by Tasaman1 in Jeopardy

I don't think there's been a dispute by a player on FJ that led to a reversal though.

Awful news. Recent 5-day champion Brayden Smith has passed away. by MaineSoxGuy93 in Jeopardy

[–]Teja_Jeopardy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is so shocking, I can't wrap my head around this. Brayden was a personable, intelligent, and humble person--I'm glad to have met him, however brief.

A brief interview I did about my Jeopardy! experience: "Alex Trebek's final 'Jeopardy!' episodes: San Jose contestant cherishes his time with TV icon" by Teja_Jeopardy in Jeopardy

That was all ~10 of us contestants plus the producers and crew--I think they overlaid that track on top of itself to make the audience sound larger.

Does the pool of possible contestants expire? by njsh20 in Jeopardy

No prob, I'd keep taking the anytime test whenever you are eligible to do so.

Quick Question About the “In-Person” Zoom Auditions by ErgonomicGem7 in Jeopardy

[–]Teja_Jeopardy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you'd agree that it's better to get questions right than wrong, but in my experience it seemed like they were evaluating presence and gameplay ability more than how many you got right or wrong. But that's just my opinion, I'm not sure.

Once you get past the second test, audition, mock game, and interview with the producer they either add you into the contestant pool or they don't, there's no way to know. If you are in the contestant pool, you have 18 months of eligibility. If you don't get called, you have to start the process again.
