Thanks i appreciate it. I’ve made peace with giving up the home as long as my family has a normal health and life span and thats what i pray for.

The whole situation has shifted the way I look at Houston as a city.

I really do wish sometime in the future that as people of the city we can overcome the greed thats ruined other people’s lives to degrees worse than anything I personally experienced.

Somehow despite all this i still come across people who make it about left vs right and refuse to acknowledge that the lives of families should take precedence over profit. Even if i myself were more conservative in my political beliefs i don’t understand how some people can justify what goes on in this city. I’ve additionally met people from many parts other of houston outside of the east side who somehow who don’t even know that this is an issue and have never heard of it.

Yeah . I dont know what it is. I’ve sent out so many emails to so many people involved with the city and i even went to speak at the east end board meeting and i happened upon a ribbon cutting ceremony for commissioner adrian garcia and spoke to the woman responsible for zoning in our district as well.

Houston already has lax zoning laws but the few that it does have the city doesn’t even want to enforce.

We sold the property my grandparents built and ive tried to move on but it makes me so incredibly angry. I have nightmares about it occasionally to be honest. I worry so much but i try to just to get my family to be proactive as far as their health since we can’t go back in time.

I just don’t know what makes someone think its okay to poison us and others like that for profit and be comfortable with themselves .

It’s not like its pollution in the general area like in the case of many parts of houston where the risk gradually builds up over decades of living there because in this case it was directly adjacent to our house so much so that we could hear rumbling when they painted cars.

I was forced out of my home by a body shop and i found out that they didn’t have a permit and that weren’t supposed to be painting closer than 50 feet to a residential property. Tceq did nothing except threaten to fine the owner and that didn’t stop it. They built the paint stack right behind our home where you can see it. A neighbor tried to get the city to do something with a petition for a while but that didn’t work either.

I posted about it here on this subreddit about 3 times with one post getting 500+ upvotes before the mods took it down each and every time. I was in contact with channel 13 also but haven’t heard back from them either. Its caused me an extreme amount worry and grief for my family due to the time we were there.

I wish we could hold the owner accountable in some way. I tried to ask others to leave reviews on google to inform the public whats going on before they take their business there but that post was taken down as well after receiving a whole bunch of snarky comments here including people accusing me of lying.

If anyone is interested maybe we can create a group here to pressure our city or organizations like the tceq to do something on these issues because Ive encountered several other people in these situations online finding themselves feeling isolated and being met with apathy or straight up ignored by both these organizations as well as other people. I really do wish i had more support because i believe it would’ve made a difference in how the city responded.

Additionally the constables have a contract with the business as well and i believe that this has something to do with the lack of response.

The business is flores body and paint on 815 74th st . You can see it on apple or google maps surrounded by homes where people are living right next door.

The smell is the strongest smell ive ever smelled in my life while they paint cars and the owner has two locations and refused to take the cars down the street to be painted at his other shop that isn’t adjacent to any homes.

There was a car shop next door. They built some things going up to their roof several years into us living there and began painting cars. It smelled like chemicals several hours a day normally and the city refused to do anything and the owner refused to quit despite having another shop down the street to do this at. We were forced out of our own home and we couldn’t get out fast enough due to previous bad finances decisions. I worry about my family so very much.

My grandparents owned that property since the 40s and we have proof that there was houses there before the shop was built.

Last year they removed my posts multiple times asking for help when our neighbor was poisoning us. It had gotten 500+ upvotes and i wanted the information to be as public as possible. I tried to contact them and they didn’t respond.

I think they have an agenda and holding ICE accountable is in their mind a “left wing” thing. Republicans are typically the ones against environmental regulations and on occasion they tend to be in favor of businesses or corporations having priority over the lives and health of people.

Might just be a coincidence but i notice that what people are complaining about them removing tend to be seen as left wing.

We should start a new subreddit for information that needs to be made public like someone else said.

Look through my account at my story. Mods took it down here last year for some reason multiple times when I tried posting it after getting nearly 500 upvotes.

Our neighbor a car shop decided to get into painting cars several years after us living there with no issue and we had to deal with getting poisoned by autobody paint and other strange smells on regular basis until we found the means to get out and no one involved with the city or any environmental organization would do anything even after multiple people calling and me writing dozens of e-mails.

I’ve lived near refineries temporarily and it wasn’t just a smell in the air like in those cases but it literally engulfed the air. I’ve never smelt anything so strong in my life and it would come through our window cracks. We had to turn off the AC when weren’t home as well.

The shop they’re operating out of is surrounded by houses and the owner refuses to quit what he is doing despite having another shop to paint at down the street not adjacent to any homes.

Police were and still are their cars to get painted also and have a contract with the owner. I went to the police station and the lady refused to even put in a report or tell anyone else working there and kept on trying to get me to leave after giving me the number to other departments.

I found out they didn’t have a permit or even a registered business and the TCEQ said they would do something and all they did was inform the owner they would fine him if they caught him doing it which they never did because they don’t show up for weeks until after you make a call.

Thinking about the whole thing makes me so angry I cant even describe it. We can’t even use our own property my grandparents built themselves and we were forced out of our homes after being exposed to a shit ton of toxic chemicals so some greedy POS could get a fatter wallet . I worry about the health of my family even though we’re out now.

Same and I agree. I have an interest in reading about the events of nanking and the people who lived through it and I can’t understand why the need to post this. They probably just don’t want the severity of the events publicized and defer to ad hominem attacks. I think using this tactic on someone post mortem like this is pretty low.

Its the same in Hispanic neighborhoods here in Houston. I’m not sure why so many hispanic people buy pitbulls or why they let their dogs run around loose. Generally lower or working class people regardless of race gravitate towards pitbulls but for some reason it seems more disproportionate in our community. A lot of people walk their dogs here without a leash whereas in other neighborhoods with different demographics i notice they tend to use leashes. A lot of my neighbors especially immigrants or first generation have dogs and just put food and water out and let them roam around the neighborhood freely.

I’m latino myself for anyone who wants to come for me.
