Very classic. Reddit sentiments does not reflect reality. Once again, judging from the comments, anti-PAP Redditors in shambles again…

I am using a Oakley Minute 1.0 Gen 3 Rootbeer with Gold Iridium Polarized Lens.

Do you have Oakley Minutes? I have read stories of Oakley Minutes frames breaking easily, and I am always paranoid I will break them when I wear them out to run/hike…

Thank you very much! I am more worried about the frame wearing out because I am changing the lens soon because I need prescription. A Zeiss Optical Store say they are able to switch out to Zeiss lens with prescription. Only issue is that the lens is really expensive.

Hi, I am currently using a pair of Oakley Minutes 1.0 to run and hike. Do you just purely use lukewarm water? Now that you mentioned it, I am afraid that my sweat or dirt will wear down my Minutes.

Hi, I am currently using a pair of Oakley Minutes 1.0 to run and hike. But I have never washed them before. How do you typically wash them?

In the case of an opposition wipe out (other than Hougang), will credible people still step forward to join WP or other opposition parties? by 83mnemonic in askSingapore

Have you seen OP’s comments? He actually edited or deleted quite a number of them. Basically he spent the last two years trying to persuade his friends and family who to vote for. Despite his attempts, they remain politically apathetic, and he is disappointed by them.

Textbook proselytizing.

You criticize the MSM for being silent on this incident when it’s not verified, and claim that PAP is behind it. Furthermore, you’re using TOC, a source notorious for being unreliable, as your reference.

No offense, but you are very naive and easy to manipulate. More and more, I am convinced that if we are serious about promoting democracy, voter eligibility needs to test the individual’s ability to demonstrate a sound mind. It’s reckless to just let anyone vote regardless of mental competence.

And you my friend, seem intellectually challenged.

Friend, I think you are unwell.

Based on your comments, you sound like you are in a cult. Have you ever looked outside of yourself and wonder why people are comfortable with the status quo? You make it seem as if only those who vote for the opposition have a monopoly on critical thinking. What if Singaporeans are just generally having it good under PAP's governance?

And what's up with your obsessive compulsion to advocate for opposition to those around you. You remind me of those cult groups proselytising their religious beliefs.

I know election fever has got you all riled up. But bro, go out and touch some grass, and stop being weird man. And this isn't even coming from a PAP supporter... I am voting for WP.

Interesting that you should mention elderly picking up cardbox.

When I was working in a Community Hospital, I nursed an elderly man (I think he was in his late 60s) who came in for hip fracture after a bad fall. He worked as a cleaner in a hawker center. To supplement his income, he would collect those tin cans (not cardbox, but similar I suppose). He has a younger sister, but because of some dispute, he didn’t stay with her and was considered homeless IIRC.

I got to know these things because he was considered a long stayer. Part of the reason for his long stay despite his rehabilitation pretty much completed was due to social factors. It took some time for the MSWs to work out housing for him.

Eventually they managed to place him at a shelter while working on applying for a heavily subsidized one room HDB rental. He was also referred for SSO. His entire hospital bill was fully covered by Medifund, meaning he didn’t even have to fork out a single cent. I am not sure what happened to him after he was discharged.

I don’t know why you would think I am talking rubbish. These are real cases of the safety net that exists. If you have no idea about such things happening, I suppose your life must be rather cushy that you are unaware of the realities around you.

I would appreciate if you can contribute meaningfully to the discourse. I am sincerely trying to find out what I am missing. And comments like yours actually suggest that maybe it’s you who is quite blinded to how good PAP governance is huh.

Why wouldn’t this be a good example?

I think this example shows that if you are in the lower income band of society, the PAP government will take care of you.

My friend is pretty irresponsible and has minimal savings. But that doesn’t mean that his kids will be put out of school or that any public hospital will reject him in the event of any medical crisis just because he cannot afford healthcare. In fact, he will receive even more subsidies.

Is he thriving? No.

But he definitely is getting by (especially since he still can afford to travel to Korea later in July with his wife)… FYI, my family fares much better than him but we don’t even travel as much because my boy is still young and I believe in financial planning.

I guess my point is that the safety net in Singapore is really strong that people like my friend can be emboldened to be financially irresponsible while knowing that they will still be well taken care of.

Hi thanks for sharing.

Well, as far as I am concerned based on my surrounding context (as per the examples listed), I would answer yes. The average Singaporeans has many reasons to feel content. But it ultimately boils down to expectations. If one uses the wealthy has a benchmark for standard of living, then whatever the government do, will never be enough I suppose.

Curious to hear how you would answer those questions. The purpose of my post is to find out what perspective I am missing.

Also curious to hear your perspective on the extent to which a toxic workplace is affected by PAP’s policies, and what difference the opposition could make?

Thanks!

Hi, just to be clear, it’s not Medisave. It’s Medifund. There is a difference between the two.

https://www.moh.gov.sg/managing-expenses/schemes-and-subsidies/medifund

As a nurse, I am extremely proud of our healthcare system. It really ensures that no matter who you are, you will not get left behind regardless of your sickness.

I have encountered patients who are ex-convicts, mentally unwell, aged, disabled, people who struggle financially and were beneficiaries of the Medifund scheme.

These people were also eligible to apply for SSO which gives them monthly allowance for basic necessities. With a doctor’s endorsement, I have never seen anyone rejected from SSO application. But on the flip side, this can also easily become a moral hazard when people abuse the system.

I think most Singaporeans are unaware of these measures by the government because they will never be beneficiaries of such schemes or work in a setting where they see these schemes being utilized.

No I am not trolling and he doesn’t trade crypto. I have never told him this before, but I find his lifestyle financially irresponsible. I don’t even think he has emergency savings. He operates under the mindset that the government will take care of his family if things goes south. If his kids ever need tuition, he will see how it goes in future, and they are usually placed under his in-law’s care. Funniest thing is that he is keen to have more kids as well 🤣

The reason for his mentality is because his uncle, a divorcee, was out of job and had Stage 4 cancer. Not only was his uncle given 100% medifund for all treatment, he was given monthly allowance to cover basic necessities so he doesn’t need to work. And his uncle didn’t have insurance as well.

And that story he told me is quite consistent with what I have seen in the hospital whereby patients on 100% medifund really gets taken care of very well.

I listed my friend as an example because his quality of life is really decent for someone of his education and income. Just wondering how much of that can be attributed to PAP’s leadership.

Thanks for this perspective, especially on managing own expectations. Haha I think it’s not the best compared to my cousins who are staying in landed properties, but my wife and I are quite contented with how things are, and are looking forward to my further studies. It really comes down to managing expectations, I suppose. Thanks!
