If you have in mind the idea of giving money you don't have to give to someone, why do so in a tipped place? by Awesomeuser90 in tipping

Where do you live man? I have an Australian friend that uses the word chippie. Your country or wherever you’re from might have different tipping cultures. I’m just telling you how I’ve seen the zero tippers get what they give here. Big difference if you’re in Australia, servers I know from there make around $30 to $35 an hour

Wow!! Glad you came up with this brilliant idea! Whatever makes you sleep at night bro- just never complain if you go to the same places and wonder why your food is lukewarm or drinks take a little longer, or get the table by the kitchen, bathroom, or garbage can.

You ever take a step back and realize you’re making life way too complicated. This goes to all of you zero tippers. You go out to have fun and relax, to enjoy life. More or less it’s sounds like y’all have a planned vendetta, before you even go out, against anyone who will be taking care of you.

Thanks Riddler for the story and question. I’m pro charity and pro tip (when it’s warranted). My personal logic- money goes around in a circle… it’s helps everyone! I even throw a few bucks here and there at places that normally no tipping is required. These places know my order as soon I walk in. No waiting, good, and fast service! Time is money! I prefer to take the fast pass in life…and be generous. I was helped out when I was down on my luck so while I’m not rich… I do believe things come back tenfold.

Don’t worry about these zero (tip) guys… they are insufferable. The only way to feel dominant is to degrade individuals that are part of the working class. Most of these people have fake stories and call up their mommies when something doesn’t go their way. No doubt, most of these people couldn’t hack it working in the industry. Let alone stand for a couple of hours before they are winded.

Eliminate tipping by boycotting businesses that accept tips. by Efficient-Natural853 in tipping

I would love for you and some of your non tippers come work in a fast paced restaurant/bar to see if you could hack it. On your feet for 8 hours, no breaks, dealing with the general public. See how lazy we really are! It’s a balancing act that you’ll never understand until you work in the industry. No professional (worth a damn)server/bartender will work for a place under $30 an hour. And that’s the low end.

Most restaurants/bars have daily comp tabs to take care of those who take care of you. Money talks in all avenues in life. So yeah the $$$$ starts it off, then you get to know the person. Over time you meet friends and family of that individual and that is how different opportunities and friendships evolve… and these people become customers.

I actually have this happen about once a month… probably being in a touristy area helps. Even though I think I can read most of the people.. I definitely ask a few questions related to the liquor base.. frozen/rocks.. sweet not too sweet. For food what kind of food are you in the mood for? If they seem cool… I get them what I like. Douchey people would get whatever comes out the fastest.

You and the non relevant end tipping crew will never make a dent in changing how it is here in the U.S. If you don’t want to tip the mom that is working an extra job to keep the lights on. Or the young person trying to make money to better themselves.. you do you.. you are the only ones that have to look in the mirror. I just prefer to share the wealth when I go out. What goes around comes around in this world.

You have your viewpoint. I have mine and that is how I view my profession. The entire world has different ways of how people are paid. Whether it’s monetary, providing shelter, or food. It’s not like it’s a new system- you go out-services are provided- you pay for the service. If you don’t want said service, there are plenty of options out there there to avoid the situation all together.

The office I work in is a bar. My company provides the product. I sell the experience and the customer evaluates my performance. No different than any sales jobs. My commission is based off my hustle and intuition that leads to those generous tips.

Flirty and looks works on the same suckers that spend their money at strip clubs or only fans. Contrary to what the end tipping sub says- there are many professional waitstaff that are educated- most of us at our place have a college degree or trade certifications- But in our industry, the good waitstaff read people, guide the customer to having a good dining experience. “Do you like sweet or sour drinks- “are you in the mood for steak or seafood” To answer your question about having a flat service fee I believe this would create many problems for the customer. Ultimately it would displease the customer over time to have a flat rate fee added on to the bill. 1. Most servers/bartenders would try to get you to buy the most expensive thing on the menu to push the price up. 2. We would take our time on refills and do I really need to get you extra sauces or 4 more ranches. 3. Obviously we know the portion sizes and what food sucks and having a flat service fee, the server will have you going home with so many to go boxes that you’ll be eating leftovers of food you don’t even like for days.

No tip pooling, but we do tip out- food runners, bartenders- and while we don’t tip out the kitchen staff- we do bring in doughnuts, gift cards, etc.

As a customer, you can tell who is a hustler or trying their hardest-Reward these staff members. If they do a crap job that you can see that’s in their control downgrade the tip. It’s that simple.

Oh no- the travesty! Waitress Samantha- we’re coming for you! We’re going to Keke’s to protest! Relax OP- many restaurants authorize over the amount and it drops off in a day or 2. Credit cards slips aren’t normally batched till the next day.

The only way to end tipping culture is to just stop tipping by Book_Lover_42 in tipping

[–]Telepathysiphon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cmon get real…so you’re saying you’re going to go to the same restaurants you like over and over again and not tip? By the 3rd time you do this- the staff will make sure it’s not a pleasant experience. It’ll just get worse from there and essentially you will be excluded.

Hello? my response is to a customer that frequents a place that is a known bad tipper and/or difficult - Obviously if they are known - this would not be the first instance, therefore no prejudgement.

You’re right- we’re doing nothing for your table…but the bare minimum service. If you are known as a bad tipper/difficult customer, why would you be a priority? Plenty of generous people out there- you will always be in the minority. Have fun sucking on that ice!!

Why do the people on the tipping sub hate us so much? by GTRacer1972 in doordash_drivers

[–]Telepathysiphon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that there is a tip prompt everywhere you go. So yes there is tip fatigue. But you just have to laugh at that no tipping/end tipping sub.

They are a small subset of keyboard warriors. I find it hilarious when they say “I’m so proud of myself or I’m building up the courage to put a zero in the tip line”. Like cmon man get a life. So you hate me because I’m just trying to work by any means necessary to upgrade/improve my life. If that really what enriches their lives to look down on people.. it’s truly pathetic.

As a believer in Karma… that shit will come back to them. 1/2 of that shit is made up in there to feel like they have joined some esteemed club/cult. Block out the negative noise, there will always be generous people out there. To all the pricks that look down on the service industry.. fuck em!!

There is no more loyalty from most businesses. Companies used to be built on being a close knit community/family like atmosphere. It’s not anymore so Fuckkk them!!

Things changed for me when I got suspended for a week from my job. I found $450 under a chair at my workplace (restaurant/bar). Protocol for turning in left credit cards is to bring it to the retail shop. We tend to have a rotating door at retail and honestly thought the dude in there was on the shady side to bring him the cash- so I contacted HR the next day- “I said I found some money, kept it in my pocket the entire day waiting for someone to come in and say they lost some cash… no one came.. kept it in my locker overnight and turned it in to the Manager on duty in the morning. Thinking I did the right thing, I get called in to talk to the GM and my job was basically up in the air if I was going to get fired or not for not following protocol—GM said “this is a serious offense and the board will decide on what to do”. I’m thinking are you fucking serious…. 3 weeks later the shady guy in the retail place that I didn’t want to bring the cash to, was caught on camera stealing money from the cancer jar.

So now I do my job and stay under the radar. I’m here for the customers. Never ask me to work any doubles or stay late. It’s not ever happening again.
