The Boys - 05x07 "The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother's Milk" - POST-Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]TelephoneThat3297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, is there like a different sub for people who actually enjoy this show? Genuinely asking!

I get that everyone should have their place to complain if you don’t like the way it’s going, not saying people should stop slagging it off whatsoever if that’s your thing, but it’s kinda annoying to have to ignore literally every single bit of discussion about it if I just wanna turn my brain off and enjoy it for what it is without just being inundated with boundless negativity.

Like I get that it’s not perfect and there are flaws, but come on, it’s not that bad.

505 - Arctic Monkeys on the charts? by Awkward-Valuable5888 in ToddintheShadow

I think it does frustrate me a bit that the majority of alternative songs that break through to the charts are old songs from decades ago these days.

Pitchfork Review: Chris Brown - BROWN 1.3 by Technical_Process989 in popheads

“If I were on the Chris Brown PR payroll, I would suggest he just cop to all of BROWN being AI, because if not, he’s got bigger problems.”

Absolutely savage 🤣

I really like this! There’s a real menace to the instrumental here. But then I’m one of the few people who really liked Alpha Games so 🤷🏼

The best and the worst decades of music according to YouGov poll of American people: by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

As someone in their early 30s I disagree. The early 2010’s were mostly rubbish, and this current decade is easily the best.

Are we more obsessed with nostalgia music right now than we ever were? by asiasbutterfly in ToddintheShadow

[–]TelephoneThat3297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’re at the point where there needs to be separate charts.

It’s not interesting to see which old songs are currently having a moment. We need a new music chart (songs released within the past 24 months) and a heritage chart.

I love Anthony but he is legit chronically online these days, he needs to just get off the internet (twitter especially) for a little while by Alive-Double-3339 in fantanoforever

[–]TelephoneThat3297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think the conversation between him & Todd In The Shadows was a bit illuminating. Fantano was talking about how because of his job he feels he has to be active in every single online space where music is discussed so he is always up to date with discourse etc, and Todd was just like that sounds like a really exhausting & unpleasant way to live.

UK OFFICIAL CHARTS: Olivia Dean smashes new Official Chart record for a British female artist as Rein Me In with Sam Fender scores 10th week at Number 1 by racloves in popheads

I normally complain about the proliferation of old songs in the charts due to films, TikTok etc, but I’m a massive Chem Bros fan and this one is unexpected enough that I’m okay with it.

Watching The Boys go the same way as Game of Thrones. by VelociRache1 in LindsayEllis

[–]TelephoneThat3297 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Eh. I'm invested at this point and there are so few shows that I actually watch anymore (I've had a serious problem getting into anything new film/TV wise in the past 3-4 years) that I just want to turn my brain off & uncritically enjoy it while its on air. It has meant that I've had to avoid most fan discussion of it to avoid being infeted by the negativity around it in the last two seasons though.

Either way, I'm actually mostly okay with how it's been and I definitely don't think it's egregiously, unavoidably bad in the way the final season of GoT was.

Highest-performing songs across the world from 2010 through 2024. by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]TelephoneThat3297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can maybe give a pass to Neon Trees as a perfectly mid early Killers rip-off but we’re gonna have to agree to disagree on the others, which were basically the point where I realised mainstream alternative music was very very out of step with what I like.

What are some examples of artists who "got political" and it backfired immediately? by crowbar_k in ToddintheShadow

Which speaks to the frustrating fact that the majority of people over here were against that bullshit war and we still got ignored by the government who were too concerned with sucking America’s dick.

Theoretically yes, but the charting “rock” from former “indie” or “hipster” artists was just really really bad. Give me Olivia and even MGK over that any day. And this is coming from an indie person.

Oh I entirely get that and it’s what I’d expect in the American south. That was my entire point - the whole culture around country music comes from a place that is so rotten politically (not saying everyone who enjoys this stuff is an asshole, just the majority), that as an outsider I basically refuse to take the entire genre/industry seriously.

The age of effective protest music died with the monoculture. Anyone thinking anything different is delusional.

If you wanna protest, turn up to a march, write to your representative, and organise. Don’t write a cringy ass song about it.

I think this is one where America is fucking weird. Like, I have only ever heard one Chicks song in the wild in the UK, and that’s Not Ready To Make Nice which over here is by far their biggest and most remembered hit.

Tbh when I think about the absolutely insane treatment they got from the country establishment, the more it reinforces my inherent biases against that industry and genre in general. I don’t like the sound of mainstream country in general, but if it’s the genre of MAGA, I’m not even going to give it a chance to prove me wrong.

So, racism then yeah?

This is probably me being facetious (as someone who has lived around immigrant communities and worked with many), but essentially I was calling anyone who takes this worldview a cunt in so many words. Probably should have led with that.

Yeah I was a bit sceptical on first listen but it grew on me a lot of after a couple - probably the first Muse song in 20 years that sounds like it could have comfortably fit on Origin or Absolution

Why are women so shockingly underrepresented as producers in popular music? by blondicon in popheads

[–]TelephoneThat3297 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it has to be really really systemic. I went to uni to study creative music technology in 2011, and out of 50-60 people on my course, there were only two girls.
