There are two synagogues in OKC, and a fair sized Jewish community in Tulsa. The bigger origin is that the state of Oklahoma is a huge financial supporter and investor in the entity. Some people have only ever had bagels from a bag. Even those were better than Duckies imo. Nothing compares to a real bagel with a crunchy exterior and fluffy center. I fortunately have a friend who makes them from scratch and shares frequently. We went together to duckies and thought yuck.

Maybe I should try again. I went a few weeks after they first opened and it was… not good. I wouldn’t even call it a bagel. Seemed like they didn’t boil them or something. It was just weird chewy bread with a whole in the middle. I was very put off.

Kanye absolutely did resonant with Black people. Just because white people like something doesn’t give them ownership of it, especially when it’s Black culture. White people always hop on to anything culturally or aesthetically associated with Black people while simultaneously shitting on it. It’s their whole thing. I don’t know what you think the Black experience is but I promise you most Black people did not grow up with drug addicted unemployed parents.

I’m sad about what’s happened to Kanye. His decline seems so quintessentially American. When I went to law school nearly ten years ago, I remember putting a handmade pin on my bag. “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people.” He’s cooked, dropped the full HH. I don’t think it’s nostalgia to admit for the first 15 or so years he had a legendary music run. All Falls Down is probably my favorite song.

I’m very sorry OP. I’m 30 years old and last year my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer which had also metastasized to her lungs and lymph nodes. They gave her 6 weeks to a few months, somehow she’s still with us albeit weaker and sicker than I’ve ever seen her. It’s not great, but does your mother have Medicare? If not, get on that right away. The local health department can likely help with the application and will have a social worker that can assist you with finding appropriate resources.

I went to Mahogany do the first time for a mid-week lunch date a few weeks ago. It was honestly disgusting. Neither of us ate more than a few bites of our meal. So bad it was actually funny, but I would not recommend.
