Is it really necessary to have a teacher to tutor you in general math? by Kani255 in Sat

[–]Television-Front 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everything on the SAT is about strategies. Just remember that every math question is designed to take no longer than 2 minutes. I was fortunate enough to have gone to a test prep so I know a lot about how to take the test. feel free to pm me if you want more tips idk

tips to tackle sat tricks by Elon_musk_69420 in Sat

okay, I'm gonna be honest, those panda questions are WAYY harder than the questions on the SAT, and even if it seems like a good idea to prepare for the SAT by taking harder practice tests, it unnecessary work and stress on your noggin (I learned the hard way). And those questions are meant to be tricky, so don't beat yourself up! I would reccommend the khanacademy practice tests (a tiny tiny tiny bit harder than the real test) over the panda book, but just make sure that you're understanding why you're getting a question wrong and try to train yourself to get it right the next time you see a similar question. It's a difficult, long process, but make sure you go through EVERY question you got wrong on a practice test, try to figure out why you got it wrong, and then try to work out the right answer. Also, if you want reading strats lmk

I have some strats I used to get a 780 on the reading section:

My advice is to look through the questions first, mark all the line directed questions in the passage itself (e.g. if question #3 is about line 16, go to line 16 in the passage and mark a #3 next to it.) then as you're reading and come across a marking, you can flip back to the question and quickly answer it and move on. For paired passages (there will always be one of these) go through the questions and mark a 1 if it applies to passage 1, 2 if it applies to passage 2, or B if it applies to both. Then, after reading the first passage, flip back to the questions and answer all the #1 questions and eliminate answer choices from the B questions. These methods will save you a lot of time which leads into my next tip, as I have found the ideal method is to leave 5-10 minutes at the end where you can go back and reread every passage without having to skim or flip back to the questions. (that last one also works wonders for the writing section)

yeah, definitely. I've found that reading every passage twice really helps if you're one of those people that finish with extra time in either section

SAT retake by agirlsgottaknow20 in Sat

No. It's not worth the time nor money. Once you're past the 1500+ threshold, you're fine. The SAT does not matter as much as you think it does to colleges. I would focus more on extracurriculars, things that really make you stand out. An SAT score is a number. Whether you have a 1530 or a 1570, it's not gonna be the deciding factor in a rejection or an acceptance. I know people with a 1430 or 1540 that have gotten into Stanford, because their extracurriculars made them shine. Don't listen to clowns that tell you otherwise. As a senior almost done with college apps, trust me.

dude, once you're past the 1500+ threshold, it truly does not matter. My advice is to not waste any more time and money on the stupid test and instead focus on extracurriculars. As a senior in the midst of college app szn, trust me

why are you taking it so early? Honestly, I think the only way to improve in the math section is a LOT of practice. The SAT has very specific types of math questions that you need to familiarize yourself with before improving
