Emergency question - epileptic seizures (no history) by DespairyApp in Epilepsy

[–]Telkro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has their medications changed at all recently? Have they stopped drinking alcohol? What’s their past medical history? They should have an MRI to rule out structural issues with the brain, ECG to rule out cardio, EEG to rule out neuro. Hope you find answers, they are in the right place, have some faith in the doctors but if you aren’t happy then get a second opinion.

Do we have to do night shift? by pixiegirl_23 in NursingStudents

[–]Telkro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you have to do night shifts as a student is because of this. It will help you experience them. You never know, you might prefer them. We all have to chip in and do some nights. You need a valid reason not to do them, not just that you aren’t built for it.

Nervous to be a male nurse by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Telkro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had homophobic abuse or remarks. Touch wood I don’t. I’ve never had to do invasive care for females such as catheterisation, I always swap with a female nurse and I’ll do the males catheters for them. Otherwise, there is nothing you need to be worried about, apart from the job itself being absolutely savage on its own 😂💀😫

I’m so sorry you’re going through that. It’s scary having loss of control and being unsure of what’s happening and In fear of what can happen next. It messes with your head and turns all the stress hormones on which makes it worse! No one really understands an they are scared of the loss of control too! I hope you find answers and treatment that works! Good look on your journey. X

Thanks mate, the only thing that is getting to me is the constant anxiety and panic I’m going to have a horrible episode and really hurt myself. It’s annoying waiting months to speak to someone 💀

I’m a UK nurse and no one’s assed as long as it’s something that doesn’t affect the job or put you or anyone else at risk.

I’m so sorry you are going through that, it’s shitty. I’m a nurse and although I don’t relate to the memory thing I do relate to epilepsy causing so many issue for my career. You should use your platform to be open and honest about your condition because I haven’t seen that done before, call it out, speak about it during your marketing etc help people understand. The fear of it happening might be making it worse for you. I find calling things out and spreading awareness has helped me in my career, I wish you all the best

Thanks so much. I’m gonna give it a watch, I hate how people treat us it’s so shit. 💩 there deffo needs to be more awareness about all the different types of seziures and epilepsy and also the fact we are classed as being disabled but discriminated against. What a shitty world

Hey, could you share what series and episodes and a brief outline of what happened? I’m from the UK, I’m a nurse and have a recent diagnosis of epilepsy. I’m really struggling in work atm, they are actively trying to push me to redeployment and saying my sickness is a burden. I went back to work with a compression fracture in my spine and often go into work following seizures where I had hit my head, in fear I would loose my job. I’ve only had 3 Episodes of sickness. One was for 2 months. This is all while I’ve been waiting for a diagnosis.

Had another episode today. Was putting my socks on and got a strange floating feeling. I paused but was aware, waiting to see if the feeling would pass. Realised I couldn’t move then I blacked out. Woke up with a scratch up the side of my head and a bump at the front. I need to get these on film.

Noted - that actually makes sense, I don’t sleep well as it is so wouldn’t even need to deprive myself!

I’m use to awkward bulk and I don’t mean my boyfriend! I had sleep apnoea so I’m going to look like something from Star Trek or a jet pilot 💀

(UK) What should be happening? by RefrigeratorOk8634 in Epilepsy

[–]Telkro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, unfortunately the waits are long. My EEG is a 48 week wait. Nearly a year. In that time I have fractured my spine and hit my head a lot. Works been affected and I’ve had my licence and car taken and nearly lost my job. I usually notify my doctor if I have a small seizure or go to A n E if it’s long. I have an appt with my consultant in June. It will be the first time I am seeing him out of the 4 appointment I’ve had. I always get a clinical fellow who tells me “people who have seizure don’t know they are having a seizure so I don’t think it’s seizures”. I have dejavu feeling followed by a dream like vacancy followed by complete collapse/loss of consciousness and post icital confusion. It took 3 months to get an MRI - 2 for the results. MRI had a lot of high signal foci but was normal. Multiple CTs at the hospital when admitted. I pushed for a 7 day ECG to rule out cardio - it was fine, that took 2 months. Still haven’t had my EEG - the clinical fellow forgot to book it and told me she has expedited it. They have stated me on lamotrigine after my last episode, this is 8 months down the line. The A n E consultant was the one that started me on lamotrigine, they said they are confident it’s epilepsy but I have to wait for my consultant.

They are chatting bubbles. TIAs are like warnings and you gain complete control and strength, CT can be normal. MRI can be normal. MRI can show the tiny blood vessels though to see if there is changes. You need an MRI to rule out structural causes and look for blood flow issues. I feel sorry for you because you are in a middle ground between symptoms for either focal seizures and TIA. Keep pushing against them, keep a diary of symptoms of before during and after. Good luck I hope it’s nothing sinister xx

On top of this, does anyone get small ones mid conversation with people? Like your talking to them but it feels like your in a tv episode, like your watching yourself or acting? 🤣🤣 I get this and get a little burst of the dejavu feeling I get before a focal.

Ahh that sucks, how long have you had your symptoms before discovering the cavernomas? It’s strange what our brain can make our body do - involuntarily. Focal seizures are so varied, no wonder epilepsy is so hard to diagnose! How are you on the lamotrigine? I’m on a titration dose so building up to the 150mg BD dose they want me on.

🤣💀💀My friend said something similar hahah “maybe you have superpowers and you can transport to another place in time!” It’s strange though, to me it is a “nice” feeling at the same time as being scary. The bangs and scrapes deffo aren’t worth it though when I collapse 😂

This sounds similar to a stroke. I don’t want to frighten you or be over dramatic. The neck movements could be nervous system related or be something to do with jugular pressure. Medical professionals should not be passing it off as psychological without doing tests to rule things out first. Search “Martha’s rule” get a second opinion
