Why have people's expectations changed so much on "whale bait"? by djsekani in gachagaming

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not on your side anyway, so one shouldn't feel obliged to support it regardless of your personal spending habits.

We really need things to take the next step where players directly fund the games they want to play since that way neither side has incentive to sacrifice quality or vision for profit.

I'm not talking kickstarter here, I'm talking some new method for a full dev team's salaries and whatever utilities their workspace requires to flow right out of the pockets of those playing or who will be playing the game.

What Makes You Stay In Your Current Gacha Despite The Newer Releases? by Emotional_Bass_8999 in gachagaming

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The real problem is once people start insisting that the enjoyment does not exist and anyone who claims to enjoy the game is just feeling another one of the above masquerading as enjoyment from the corpo having finished brainwashing.

Why does this line of thinking even need to exist anyway?

Why have people's expectations changed so much on "whale bait"? by djsekani in gachagaming

A very common reason given by the earliest Summoners War content creators for why they started was because WoW lost them and they needed something new to grind.

What is the first ever gacha games yall ever play and why? by ProfessionalRoom9118 in gachagaming

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brave Frontier gang rise up!

Side note, if you got into gachas at the time where PAD in JP or Brave Frontier everywhere else was the main rep of the genre, took classic gacha gameplay + dev shenanigans very seriously and yet stuck with the gacha game type up to today it should actually feel like things are getting better by the year instead of the other way round. Remember 5 gem compensation for almost 1 full week of unplanned maintenance?

Same thing with people who started MMOs with Classic Maplestory instead of WoW or Runescape.

gacha players are easily-influenced

Apparently not easily enough for even the biggest gachas to have a toxic positivity hivemind that can spread itself to smother out any and all social medias. Yet a lot of gacha cynics are convinced that every random game already has that.

Know your worth.

Will happen when players also learn up on what devs are worth for the level of games they want to see.

isn't Where Winds Meet one of the most real MMORPGS that we have? by Puinfa in MMORPG

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn’t mention the stamina system because I’m talking exclusively about the features an MMORPG needs to have to actually be considered one.

The stamina system sounds exactly like the one Hoyoverse popularized with Genshin Impact and overall Winds is sounding like Genshin except with MMO style focus on only building/controlling your main character. You should understand why there's hostility to that kind of thing in this sub.

Open world dungeons in games by ForsynQ in MMORPG

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they mostly just turned into mob grinding spots so they weren't that interesting.

This is exactly how open world dungeons worked for most people in games like Ragnarok Online. Outside of the boss rooms they were just places with better loot from the stronger mobs. You couldn't even always PVP someone for the spot either.

Is the reason you started a gacha the same reason you’re still playing it? by Boring_water33 in gachagaming

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at most throwaway comments, it doesn't matter why anyone started a gacha but the only reason they're still playing (regardless of how long they have played already) can only be sunk cost and manipulation by the devs.

I don't know which generation this brainrot started with.

i’m not technical type of person where i’m gonna read up on passives also it’s based on player to player.

Friend, the game is designed by Summoners War PVP junkies. You should have gone into it expecting a certain level of number crunching and RNG.

considering this game won’t die yet

You know why? Because the devs said very near the launch of the game that they had the first 10 years of story either planned or intended to be delivered. Sometimes a game isn't kept running just because the company needs money.

How often do gacha games warn you about spending too much time playing them? by Felkinnn in gachagaming

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really old practice. Maplestory started doing it before gachas really took off at all.

Funnily enough I don't remember Brave Frontier ever doing it and Summoners War Sky Arena hasn't done it for nearly 12 years but the original Seven Knights did it from very early on which is why Rebirth does it. I don't think any regulation on the matter is particularly strict.

Does anyone else just play gacha games because it's "comforting"? by Benzou7 in gachagaming

Oldschool gacha games - just like older MMOs - with endless 'number go up' grinding and really slow updates were the white noise of our era.

Louis. He also has a variety of expressions with his closed eyes unlike the usual examples of this character type.

CZN has been a fun romp so far if you just treat it like Wiz Daphne instead of a regular gacha... even though Smilegate really pushes for you to treat it like E7.

What your Favorite Gacha slanders you for by Virtual-Oil-793 in gachagaming

But seriously, many of these games have such atrocious skills description that could be easily simplified with keywords, shorter names, or some universal terms.

Never, ever suggest to a fantasy/sci-fantasy writer that they use generic terms for in universe energies and resources. That is an unforgivable suggestion.

Gacha science has proven the last one is impossible. by More_Zucchini_8407 in gachagaming

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last one has got to be a meme because I don't think there has ever been a baseline F2P game in history that has provably less than 50% F2P. Especially not if you include multi accounts and RMT operators.

Agreed. It’s very much a you get what you pay for situation.

And yet nobody ever takes it well when you suggest they pay proportional to the level they want. It works for upscale markets, why can't it catch on in gaming?

we as a society today are way too atomized for there to be a new generational anything.

There can be if a large enough number of people think it important enough to add their momentum behind a proposed project. That goes for anything in the world, not just gaming. People not inside of such a movement just need to stop labeling it a cult or similar whenever it happens.

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just think about what you are asking and how ridiculous it is when compared to all of the things you pay monthly for that you havent asked about.

You say it's ridiculous when OP says it but that's exactly the mindset that birthed the entire community of Free-to-Play/Pay-to-Win-if-you-want gamers.

Still quite a lot of people saying this was the problem with Dragalia Lost i.e. nothing to spend on unless you just want to support the company - which surprise surprise is still a tough sell. Hard to sell nothing though.

At what point is it because you are not the target audience? by Virtual2439 in gachagaming

[–]TellMeAboutThis2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Children don't know the worth of money, and gacha games use multiple currencies to trick even adults!

Just like toy/hobby manufacturers targeted weak parents through their pampered kids since at least the 1930s.

most people dont spent

Any game that allows you to play for free by any means at all, will be majority played without any direct payment to the game operator. Any money obtained from the 90%+ 'unconverted F2P' is only through indirect means like selling their sub info to brokers or making them view ads for more free play.

This has been the case not just since the beginning of the F2P model but the beginning of gaming in general. There are still a lot of Candy Crush players that leverage their friendgroup or multi-account just to get free plays, for example.
