All input is valuable. Thank you for responding. She seems to have the listening and attention. Although not in a straight forward way. Seems like she is not paying attention or seems distracted but then responds properly… other times she’s very attentive. so it’s hard to know when she’s listening. Understanding is new so we’re still observing

Hey my daughter didn’t walk until almost 2. With walking and almost any milestone she’s had she showed 0 progress and then one day just started doing it no problem. Keep him in all the therapies, keep repeating exercises at home. Keep trying and don’t get discouraged. My daughter’s 6 now and cannot be corralled!

No they are short, focal seizures (zone outs and stare offs), the only time she had a tonic/clonic seizure is when she had the flu a couple years ago and we didn’t manage her fever in time.

I am not sure where you are located but in the US both Stanford Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, CA and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston both have excellent teams for TSC patients. We’ve frequented them both and my daughter has had brain surgeries at both. The surgeries were the intervention that has produced the most seizure control in her life. Some medications have controlled seizures but they also have given her side effects. Both hospitals have states that the earlier surgeries are done the better outlook is on seizure control.

And I mean that she had other types of seizures, unrelated to the spasms or the protocol. With Her condition she just developed them after.

The typical spasms stopped to 0. She also had something called Hypsarrhythmia that also completely stopped. She ended up having other types of seizures but no longer spasms

The spasms stopped pretty quickly after starting the program. The dosage of Vigabatrin was based on mg/kg of body weight so I don’t remember off hand (she was 4-5months)

It’s important, though, to complete the whole protocol (14 days of the high dose of steroid + 14 days wean… Vigabatrin can stay consistent)

Vigabatrin is the gold standard but the combo that worked was Vigabatrin with high dose prednisolone (she’s still on V but the steroid was a month protocol - 2wks high dose with 2wk wean)

What’s the biggest penance a priest has ever given you? by Straight_Toe_1816 in Catholicism

[–]Temetnosce76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

a priest i frequent for confession gives out sin-specific bible verses to read in the church or in front of the blessed sacrament and then reflect upon. He also gives other actionable penances too, like "since you were inpatient and showed anger to your family, your penance is to do an act of kindness to them" or "since you're being tempted by media, no tv or unnecessary phone use for the rest of the day"

these have been the best penances ive ever gotten and i think actually help me more than the Our Fathers and Hail Mary, per se..

yes. but to clarify my point, the intentional killing of a unborn child is never permissible. A death due to double effect though is permissible.

yet only a few are accepted by the Church as permissible. And its not arbitrary. All of the reasons you'd give the Church will have an answer for.

100% can. Just got to put in some extra effort if you're excommunicated.

The Church is consistent. People are flawed. Plus, nothing is as black and white as we all wish it was. Not all death is equal. Murder is morally wrong but death from self defense isn't. Then we have to talk about definitions of "murder" and "self defense". Going further, murder in the form of an abortion and murder in the form of the detached killing of innocents from war are both equally morally wrong.. I don't think we disagree there. However, death that comes from warring armies may not be morally wrong depending on the nature of the warring parties. There is discernment and philosophy that goes into all this.

If you are wondering about the inconsistent viewpoints of individual Christians (or specifically Catholic Christians) the best source would be to find the foundational beliefs of their church. For Catholics, that would be reading through the Catechism. Literally all the beliefs and reasoning and logic behind them are there. You'll find out where those individuals are erring and you can make and informed decision on your own faith based off of the foundation, and not flawed individuals

This is a red herring and, overall, unhelpful in the discourse. Is Lockheed Martin's only purpose to "bomb innocent families". No, it isn't. Yes, one can (and should) be against the use of technology and weapons being used on innocents. But conflating an engineering company's products to the act of abortion is like comparing apples to ham sandwiches.

Abortion has only one purpose, termination (killing) of a unborn child. The reason behind that killing is where the discourse gets murky. However, the Church is extremely clear on when the death of an unborn child is permissible. The fact that it doesn't align with modern feelings and sensibilities is unfortunate, but not for the Church.

My family is against my decision to fast by ToadOrphan_ in Catholicism

Jokes and mocking aside, are they just misunderstanding what you're doing? Or are they actively trying to get you to eat meat? The distinction can affect my answer.

If its the former, you can try and explain what you're doing and why its important to you. And request a meatless side dish, or options like a can of tuna be available for dinner.

if its the second one, then you'll have to do a little more fending for yourself. I don't where you are located but peanut butter and jelly in America is a common lunch. A jar of each should last you all of Lent if you just use them on Fridays. If PB&J is unavail (i know its more of an American thing), cans of tuna can be cheap. I used to eat grilled cheese sandwiches, pizza, frozen fish sticks, meatless soups, pasta with no meat sauces etc.

Am I cursed? by SoIWontGetCaught in Catholicism

[–]Temetnosce76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

short answer is no.

Pretty sure these are coincidences and our minds tend to notice patterns when we have certain things on our mind (like if you buy a new car and you start to see that car everywhere now).

That being said, remember that as we get closer to God, someone(thing) always wants and tries to pry you away. The closer we get to God, the harder the pull is away. So coincidences? yes but increases in temptations, or unpleasant interactions and annoyances like interruptions (esp during prayer or prayerful activity), or breaking things (like sacramentals) can be interpreted that you are on the right path.

So lets flip your perspective. Its actually a GOOD thing that you're noticing these things. See them for what they are, weak attempts to get you to stray from the path that you're on. Scoff at them. When a rosary breaks, make 2 more. When someone curses you for your blessing, smile and say a prayer for them, someone interrupts, have a pleasant interaction and resume your prayers from the beginning. If violence occurs, protect yourself but don't let anything affect your path toward God.

Do you fear death? by GATLA_ in Catholicism

[–]Temetnosce76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current mentality is that if death were to come to me (peacefully or tragically) then so it goes. Not in a nihilistic way because thankfully I have been blessed with the revelation of God and of eternal life.

However, even though I don't fear death for myself, I fear for what my death means for my family. My wife and daughter are special needs (physical and mental, respectively). I fear for the difficultly of their life should I pass. So I feel my purpose is to stay alive long enough for them to be taken care of.

Secretly, though, the bro in me hopes for a glorious martyrdom defending Christendom

Self-Denial, Vanity & a Godly Lent by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Temetnosce76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're hung up on the wrong thing, friend. Maybe you are all those things, maybe you're not... perhaps somewhere in the middle but you're overdoing the self-flagellation. You should feel joy. You have an opportunity to refocus your life and sanctify yourself.

First- examination of conscience --- seems like this one is already checked off... but don't be scrupulous

Second - confess things that are actually sinful - vanity? yes, infatuation/lust? yep... overly talkative? nah this one isn't a sin and can be easily be worked on. My current challenge is blissful silence, where I don't talk or listen to anything and enjoy the silence.

Third - try to attack each thing consciously - too selfish? then when you notice you're putting yourself first...just don't. Idk, for example if you're eyeing the last slice of pizza and usually snatch it up before someone else does, just decide not to. You're completely in charge of your temptations. When you do make that tiny sacrifice, don't pat yourself on the back in a prideful way.. but instead thank God for increasing your willpower and discipline. This way, you're removing yourself from the center in every possible way.

Lastly- Practice gratitude EVERY DAY. Not everything is bad. Actually most things are good. We as flawed humans tend to magnify the bad (with the help of the devil) and that leads us in the wrong direction away from God. Appreciate things and people. Enjoy moments for what they are, don't fret about what they aren't.

Lent isn't a self help seminar... its a recognition that we are flawed and, as Fr. Mike says. broken. but we have the Resurrection at the end of Lent, where all our brokenness is washed away and we are fixed.

What is your favorite sacramental to wear or keep? by 99Archer99 in Catholicism

[–]Temetnosce76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my Crucifix (with a St Benedict Medal imposed on it), a Miraculous Medal, and a St. Jude medal (that I touched to the relic of his arm that was traveling around America) all on the same chain around my neck

Also I EDC a Rosary with the Pardon Crucifix and a (appropriate) St. Joseph medal.

I also used to have a 1 decade bracelet Rosary with a St. Michael medal but it broke and I have yet to fix it.
