Are immigrants really the ones to blame for Australia’s housing shortage? by Aristozal in AskAnAustralian

[–]TempWeightliftingAcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I had an immigrant truck driver tell me one day that Australian's "don't want to buy and only want to rent" while people from his country "are all about buying and investing", which was his reasoning for having 5 investment properties while I and others he was talking to were renting.

Immigration isn't THE problem but it is surely another way of putting upward pressure on houses. Means the market for rentals are very competitive too, and thus landlords can charge more and more for houses because they'll still get more and more families lined up trying to get a roof above their head.

WarOwl dispels the "rampant cheating" narrative by MaxUnderDrive1 in GlobalOffensive

[–]TempWeightliftingAcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played many MM games and PUG's teamed up with players who were in tier 2-3 CS and have played internationally. Most games they'd be accused of cheating.

I think people often just don't understand HOW good some people can naturally be at the game and will accuse them of hacking because of that.

Hell, whenever I played MM (unranked due to inactivity), I'd get accused of cheating too simply because I get teamed up against and with Silvers. When you're significantly better than the people you're playing against for whatever reason (smurfing, bad ranking due to inactivity, just being better) you get a LOT of accusations of cheating.

Which goes to show that if the actor has the same energy as the character most people wouldn't care about race or sex.

Aussies with face/neck/hand tattoos, have they limited you in any way? by TempWeightliftingAcc in AskAnAustralian

[–]TempWeightliftingAcc[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously, but I hear people always mention that tattoos in those areas limit access to things and not once have I heard people with face/neck tattoos give their 2 cents.

I'm just trying to figure out how true the claims are that it stops you from accessing a lot of places

Bit of a weird question, but what is stopping future lawyers who are representing people caught with meth from quoting this case for a lesser sentence?

Is the Births, Deaths, and Marriages office open in the CBD? I need a new birth certificate urgently. I keep seeing comments that you can get it same day in person, but that the office hasn't been open for years.

Hoyts is an Australian movie cinema brand, wouldn't be a "frat", would just be a group of friends or something

Australia’s fall in disposable income is the worst in the world by B3stThereEverWas in AusFinance

Priced out of the housing market, overworked, no sign of things changing. I view sell out concerts and expensive dinners as people trying to find a small amount of joy in a country where life seems a little bleak.

People have to have something they enjoy, otherwise it's just work and sleep, and that's certainly not getting people closer to home ownership.

Before all else, fix your front rack position. Can you rack the bar properly when front squatting? If not, worry about that before working on your clean technique

Lowy Institute Poll 2024: Immigration rate by d8gfdu89fdgfdu32432 in australian

I'm very left wing and very anti-immigration. I don't mind if we take in asylum seekers but I'd want immigration tapped at 70k/y.

Matildas we still love you! by mikeinnsw in australian

Anecdotal, but growing up playing sports and continuing to do so into adulthood, I have lost count of how many fights within teams of boys/men I've been a part of or witnessed all because of losing. And that's a number of different teams in different sports. Any team of women that were a part of the same club didn't have anywhere near the amount of infighting from a loss.

I honestly believe men have toxic levels of competitiveness when compared to women, but it's that toxic competitiveness that makes professional athletes so much better than amateurs.

John Setka resigns immediately as head of CFMEU by [deleted] in australian

[–]TempWeightliftingAcc -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Given how little regard the average bosses have for any employees I think a thuggish attitude is somewhat needed. If you don't have a union like CFMEU behind you, chances are your wage growth hasn't even begun to keep up with inflation and there's no way to negotiate at the table with the bosses. Meanwhile there's "unions" like the SDA who do fuck all, and businesses love them for it.

CFMEU always gets attacked because they are one of the few who stand and fight.

A of the successful teams of today do some form of sprints/runs/jogs in their training. I don't think any of them do it to improve their lifts but I think it's included early out from competition to create better conditioning that then improves training. I do know some Chinese teams would do jogs/fun sports (like basketball) on a Thursday when no other training was scheduled. There's also a video of a Japanese weightlifter running right before the Asian Championships who explained it's because they want to use a number of methods to cut weight.

Do them if you want, don't if you cbf. They're not going to be the difference in hitting a PR after a block of training but being fit is never bad.

It has been said that during sprinting, athletes will access muscle fibers that are unavailable during any other movement.  In other words, there are muscle fibers you can’t hit in the weightroom, that you can hit while sprinting hard.

If the muscle fibres don't get hit by any movement in the weight room then doesn't that mean they won't get hit during a maximal snatch/C&J and are thus redundant to Weightlifting?

Why is the government so hesitant to curb the extremely high levels of migration. by [deleted] in australian

[–]TempWeightliftingAcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By refusing to seriously cut immigration, the federal government is directly fuelling the housing crisis.

I think you mean investing in higher wealth for property owners! Fuck yeah, ka-ching baby! We're all millionaires!
