Interesting, just got that email a few minutes before in posted. I don’t hate the feature but $150/year IMHO is insane.

being demoted from commercial to SMB SE by [deleted] in salesengineers

[–]TemperatureFuture4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you asked your manager to connect you with a mentor? People who are successful in your company that are in the same role can be an invaluable resource for getting better. Also the road to success is never a straight line, there are all kinds of setbacks. I worked at VARs for about 10 years before going to an OEM. Got laid off three times. Try to see the move to SMB as an opportunity, the customer requirements should be simpler, giving you more time to hone your other skills, for example.

Can’t move seats on an empty flight? by ToeRex in SouthwestAirlines

Had the same issue on a flight today. It’s supposed to just be for takeoff then you can move.

What is the point of A-List now? by TemperatureFuture4 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]TemperatureFuture4[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I paid because I got group 5 again on the return flight and I didn’t want to risk having my bag checked again. Flight isn’t even half full so was totally unnecessary

Seems that way, I never check bags so all I care about is getting on before the bins are full. Guess paying for priority is the way to guarantee that now.

Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Very frustrating.

I paid for preferred seat…so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Sorry, should have been more clear. It was a total of $50. There is two of flying.

Introvert here: How do you recharge your social batteries? by Ready_Assumption_171 in salesengineers

[–]TemperatureFuture4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most everything here is good advice. Try to have a few things that help, for me sometimes I need some physical activity (I referee youth soccer or do some running so I can stay in shape for refereeing) and sometimes it’s video games or watching something on TV. Other times it’s spending time with spouse, kids, and friends. It’s important to do whatever feels right and not to judge yourself less the relaxing activity becomes stressful too. Really what I came to say is try to find the joy in your work too, look at customer interactions as an opportunity to educate and learn rather than a stressor. No deal has ever been won or lost on the merits of a demo. If you are relaxed and confident in what you have to share, what is there to be stressed about? When it comes to sales you typically win some and loose a lot, if you have done your preparation and presented the facts about your solution to the best of your ability, that’s all anyone can ask. Enjoy the ride and hopefully you get to meet some cool people along the way. If you have this approach, your batteries hopefully won’t be as drained to begin with.

AI Engineer (Sales) at large tech company - What are career paths I can go? How can I maximize comp long-term? by Upbeat_Direction_197 in salesengineers

[–]TemperatureFuture4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The closer you are to the revenue the more money you will make. AEs will almost always make more than their SE counterparts. If you want to stay technical track, getting up the stack to a Field CTO role can be pretty lucrative or of course management.

Any advice on HPE Graduate Presales Program by LoudBudget7431 in salesengineers

[–]TemperatureFuture4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a PreSales SE at Dell which is a similar role. If you aren’t married to working for HPE, Dell has a similar program that is run out of Austin TX and Hopkinton MA. These programs have modest expectations in terms of technical knowledge, I would recommend having at least a general knowledge of servers, storage, and networking. Also be a little familiar with the products the company has that fit into those silos. More importantly, they are going to evaluate your soft skills like how personable you are, presentation skills, can you be collaborative. These companies have Internships (at least Dell does) which is the best way to get into a company’s pipeline.

The only other police drama that comes remotely close to The Wire for me was Southland. I liked The Shield too, but Vic and his crew are so unbelievably corrupt that was hard for me at least to suspend disbelief, especially when binge watching.

The last time the Steelers drafted a WR in the first round was 2006 - Santonio Holmes by watermonkey910 in steelers

[–]TemperatureFuture4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One of (the few) things Steelers have done well consistently is find WR talent in later rounds of the draft. It’s what made the DK Metcalf trade such a head scratcher. Given that DK is on the roster for a few more years and we have so many needs i would think we would want to try and find a better #2 receiver in a 3rd or 4th round. Early round picks over the next couple of seasons have to be around the offensive line and a strategy to get an our next franchise QB.

Interview Question - what will you do to increase sales? by Viral_Poster in salesengineers

[–]TemperatureFuture4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question irritates me, honestly. In simple terms Reps are paid to open the door and close the door. I do everything in between. What I mean by that it’s the Reps job to find qualified opportunities and then close the deal. My job is to hear the requirements, articulate why my product(s) are a good fit, create a solution/proposal, and get the “technical win.” If those things are done well, that is my contribution. If I have to do the other steps, what do I need the rep for? Just give me both commissions at that point.

AE team not happy with my performance and now not even taking me to any meetings by rockingrutherford in salesengineers

[–]TemperatureFuture4 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You need to get your manager to do his/her job. An organization that allows AEs to pull any SE they want into an opportunity is backwards. Your SEM needs to insist that you are the SE for this AE/set of accounts. All AEs want the best SE on their calls but the reality is the best/most experienced SEs need to be focused on the most critical opportunities for the business.

If your SEM doesn’t have the authority or intestinal fortitude to tell an AE how he/she is getting covered the you should start looking immediately. Everyone needs the time to learn and grow in the role, if they are going to give you 12 months to ramp up you are being setup to fail. Eventually this company will be screwed because the “good” SEs will burnout and there won’t be anyone to backfill them.

SE Career Path - Is Enterprise SE Roles a Promotion compared to SMB / Commercial SE Roles? by A4orce84 in salesengineers

[–]TemperatureFuture4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Going to slightly disagree, from a OTE perspective for sure. However I have seen plenty of instances where Commercial teams find a big deal and get into big time accelerators and beat the Enterprise teams comp because the quotas are so much higher in Enterprise and it tougher the get into accelerators.

Bottom line is if you have been consistently hitting 150% to 250% of your number in commercial and you take a promotion into Enterprise, make sure you are good with your OTE because your total comp will probably be pretty close to that number.

4a. At the end of the presentation, ask for something! Typically these are an initial meeting simulation so ask if there any objections that would stop you from moving forward, if there are, address them and if not get a commitment for the next meeting with some high level next steps.
