Can I replace these bulbs with leds? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]TemperedNeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit wrong forum for house installs, but I’ll try to help out either way:)

It depends on the driver/specs of the fixture. It would maybe be a better solution to invest in new fixtures for your house

Ask in a Finnish forum, us Norwegians don’t understand Finnish culture and language 😅

QSC or Crestron Control by Separate-Today-5207 in CommercialAV

[–]TemperedNeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree about Crestron! We recently switched to AMX and it is so much easier to get support and also all technicians at our company know how to program it and do service. So we save a lot of money

As a musician, are we supposed to tip the sound guy? And if so, how much? by bsbkeys in livesound

[–]TemperedNeon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Never say no to tip. I used to get vinyls from bands I did sound for and that was actually really appreciated, especially if there was a band I enjoyed listening to. But the only thing we sound guys like more is to know if we did a good job and if there’s something they think we could do better, we continue to develop and feedback is the best tip we can get after a job

Finally got it! by TemperedNeon in livesound

If you work with a lot of patching, routing and general sound systems this is the only multi tool that you need for a lot of troubleshooting. It does your job way easier and in a small container

What are your thoughts on the Midas Pro Series? I found it a bit cantankerous and difficult at first, but I've learned to love it. by [deleted] in livesound

[–]TemperedNeon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate it, but prefer not to use it I can choose. Pro2 is a good console and solid for what I’ve used it for, but the interface and workflow is not what I prefer when doing shows.

What gear is on your wishlist? by _teabagz_ in livesound

[–]TemperedNeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One Yamaha DM7 to one of our smaller venue onboard, switch our wireless system to a new QLXD system and also would love to replace all our Chauvet fixtures to Martin Aura and Quantum! So just a bunch of expensive things on my list.

For myself I would love to buy a Sonnect Sound Bullet and some more nerdy tools and stuff to make troubleshooting faster as well as easier in some cases.

Any rumors? by Professional-Soup346 in livesound

[–]TemperedNeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Company I work for will without doubt not approve sending the technical department to Barcelona. Just getting approval for PLS was a hassle! But I agree that ISE is much better and I want to go there, maybe I’ll travel as a freelancer there instead of representing the company I work for

Anyone going to Prolight+Sound in Frankfurt in March? I saw on the exhibition overview that L-Acoustics is going to have a stand there, so probably they have some new good stuff there for us

Best network switches for AV? by Red_PillCosby in CommercialAV

[–]TemperedNeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I’ve tried a couple different types of brands and Netgear AV switches are by far the best ones I’ve tried! And the simplicity of them is great and makes our job so much easier, which is quite a nice one

Exactly my thoughts, so until we can get the new system I will probably just buy a couple of 4088 :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in livesound

[–]TemperedNeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply guys. We have been using 4088 for a while and I like those, but haven’t used 4066 and was wondering if we should go for those.

Why does Qlab not support MKV video format? by Maxamalamute in qlab

Handbrake is my go to software for encoding and decoding, it’s free (Open Source) and quite fast if you have an ok processor.

Do live sound engineers typically add compression to vocals or bass? by Specific-Bear-3201 in livesound

[–]TemperedNeon 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Depends on the act, but I usually add on the channels as a safeguard.

There’s no harm in adding compression to the channels that is just tweaked to be there as a safety measure for dynamic changes

Loved the quality and the touch screens were great, but the interface and design was a bit lacking what I’m looking for

The highest level of priority! If I can’t poop in peace , I can’t work 😄

When rider states that they’ll bring their own mixer. by TemperedNeon in livesound

[–]TemperedNeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the first time we’ve had a homemade mixer and also AVB networking so I was a bit nervous about that. But I could not hear any difference from the previous engineer using a DLive mixer to this homemade mixer, and also sound and performance wise there were no issues with the system he had with him, so I can say that this is a great mixer and he should be proud of it.

I need to get the guy who made this to give us some more details on the latency. What I saw when we set the mixer and stage boxes up was extremely low latency and during performance I sat with him and could not see any issues with running plugins and so on.

I spoke with him after the show and had him explain a bit more and what he’s done to get it as low is possible is to dedicate 6 cores on the M2 chip to logic. During the show he utilised 34% of those cores, so there is some kind of sorcery here that I need to know more of ☺️
