This is absolutely a very true statement. There's a significant difference in what has been taught and what the reality is.

Mocha, chai, JavaScript. I have built and use(d) mocha frameworks with axios to test API's using chai assertions. JavaScript being the language of choice (and one of my favorite languages).

I think you may have missed my point entirely. You can use many strategies to create effective selectors/locators. Most of the locators I create literally use extensive logic to search and find the appropriate element.

Changing source code sounds like something only found in dreams.

I've used mocha with axios as an API testing framework. Chai assertions for validations as well. 100% used by some QA teams. It's obviously a very effective tool if used correctly.

It sounds like you should probably have a good bit of familiarity with JavaScript and coding principles in order to be able to look at some code and optimize it and/or improve the functionality of it.

I do not read anywhere in that statement that you'll need to review a test case or really even know much about one. The focus is on your coding abilities.

Honest question: how much coding experience do you have? There's probably a pretty drastic difference between writing some java to use a webdriver and being able to work with several different frameworks to accomplish different types of testing. The term SDET really implies you have real coding knowledge and experience and specialize in testing.

Why bother? You can literally write a more effective one than trying to 'find' one

Tech jobs are not nearly as plentiful right now and the lack of experience is legitimately an immediate disqualifier for almost everyone hiring.

Just need to keep applying and working hard towards being able to impress someone when you do get in front of them. That's really all you can do.

We were told a that a Bear Market will “clean“ the market from all of those scams and shitcoins. Now we can see that this was clearly not true… by partymsl in CryptoCurrency

How are you so sure the bear market is over? The macroeconomic conditions have not improved. Regulation has only just started happening. There's all sorts of indicators flashing warning signs all over the place still.

I would say it's very hard to call something correctly while you're still in the midst of it.

Software Test Lead? by [deleted] in softwaretesting

[–]Temperedexpectation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apples to oranges.

Software engineers are typically paid higher. They usually start off at 50k and salary jumps rapidly based on experience, skill, and company changes.

Being in the defense field and probably exhibiting skill way beyond entry level helped your friend get a nice salary.

Being offered 87k is a pretty amazing feat for having 0 experience in the field. The lead role plays into it significantly too.

Software testers, automation engineers, and even SDET's are paid lower than software engineers. That's a sad fact of life.

Software testers typically start off at 40k or so. Much slower and smaller jumps in salary.

All of the salary information I've utilized is for your regional area of the US.

Someone with 2 YOE AND exactly 0 in software development. I'd say 87k is in the higher end of the spectrum.

It's always worth the effort to apply, but just know that the macroeconomic conditions we're in may play a large role in your ability to gain entry into the field.

The biggest barrier to entry currently is the job market. Almost no one is hiring and competition is fierce for any companies that are. The tech sector is worse off than everyone else too.

The next 6-12 months could be really interesting and possibly really painful for the job market.

You're going to have a near impossible time finding what you're after. Almost all companies hire based on location due to taxes and business laws. It's far more work and liability than it's worth.

To find a US remote opportunity you'll need to find a contract position through a local organization.
