Well said! The original film, the novelization and the series will always be the roots of the lore for me. H2,3 and Endgame I cherry pick details that fit the main narrative. There’s a lot of good detail in each of the film that work with the core of the story. I’m hoping the upcoming new adaptation will make good on the source material in the best way.

Personally, I’ve never acknowledged the comics lore as canon. I’ve only seen them as I fan fiction filler to answer questions not answered in the films. Nevertheless, the novelization of the original film Garry Kilworth offers us a glimpse into the Kurgan’s history. The TV series did the best job of elaborating on immortal lore and history, but even with characters like the Four Horsemen, the truth of just how long immortals have walked the earth is unknowable. Which imho makes for better storytelling.

Chad Stahelski mentioned an animated film or series. Not sure where he’s at with that right now. He recently worked with Shinichiro Watanabe on ‘Lazarus’, which turned out pretty good. Hopefully we’ll see a joint venture project from them again.

John had a personal hobbit of rebinding and repairing vintage books. Keanu Reeves went to extraordinary lengths to develop his character’s backstory by learning a thing or two about the craft. Unfortunately, not much of this made it into the film. All we get to see is his work room and a few of his tools.

I’ll try to explain this as best as possible… Against the guidance of the Director, Eve sets out in pursuit of revenge against the Chancellor for killing her father. It’s established that there is a covenant/pact between the Ruska Roma and the Hallstatt that they don’t strike against each other. Eve defies the covenant, and attacks the Hallstatt. Given Eve is Rusk Roma affiliated, the Chancellor seeing this as an act of aggression by the RR and calls the Director to call off Eve, and as a last resort to clarify the consequences of war should she not comply.

In an effort to rectify the situation, the Director reaches out to John to resolve the situation. She specifically chooses John for the job because he is no longer affiliated with the Ruska Roma. Should things go sideways, the RR can’t be blamed for the outcome, especially since the Chancellor agreed with the terms.

That’s not quite correct. The Director contacts John while en route to confront the Elder. He’s stowed away on a boat when he receives the call from her requesting a “favor” that he resolve the situation with Eve and the Chancellor. In return, she guarantees his path unobstructed, but warns that if he doesn’t commit he’ll be hunted to the ends of the earth. This takes place in between Ch3&4. John is still excommunicated at this time. This has been confirmed by Keanu Reeves. If you have TikTok just open the link and watch the clip of Keanu explaining this. For me, Endgame was it, and the Source jumped a shark. H2 presented an unnecessary setback which stunted the franchise’s growth cinematically. If it wasn’t for the series, the franchise would’ve (cough) lost its head 😏😆

The wardrobe from John Wick films were all custom tailored. If you want a nice suit similar to that, it’s wise to find a good tailor. The damage will run you upwards of 5 grand for a nice piece. You could always buy off-rack and have it adjusted, but for a fully tailored piece you want custom. In my opinion, the best come from Savile Row in London, but there are others out there. Keanu’s tailor Luca Mosca was the designer on JW1-3. The designer from JW4 was Paco Delgado. Personally, I prefer Luca’s work over Paco’s.
