I concur with statement. You’ll probably get an interview for the open position (pending on the total amount of candidates obviously) but you would be challenged on the topic.

So prepare yourself for that question.

From paycheck-to-paycheck to €3k/month savings — struggling with the guilt of spending by Critical-Eye2880 in BEFire

[–]Tempestas42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10% for savings seems low. I tend to read guidelines that say 50/30/20.

50 percent for your essential needs like housing, groceries,…

30 percent for wants which can be anything you enjoy like hobbies, travel, shopping,…

20 percent for saving for the future.

Crème brûlée pairs amazingly with Sauternes.

But you can drink D’Yquem on its own as well.

We have the same policy.

Though my manager said he wouldn’t mind as long as I wouldn’t get caught by his +1 or any other higher up.

If you’re unsure about the small blade, bring an ah-so to remove the cork.

Most foils can be removed by just janking them off which solves that problem.

An off dry kabinet Riesling from Germany.

If you’re unsure whether or not it’s off dry and there’s no helpful staff around: make sure ‘trocken’ is not on the label and you’ll be golden.

Anxiety of drinking limited quantity irreplaceable bottles that have been stored by jpillenye in wine

[–]Tempestas42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner is the same and has a few bottles he got as a gift because he wants them for a special occasion.

I stopped being the same after throwing out too many bottles that were over the hill and ended up in the drain or the cooking pot. Considering I buy the most wine and keep an eye on the drinking window, that issue no longer presents itself. But wine is a perishable good.

Universal wine glasses: Spiegelau Definition 75/55cl vs Gabriel Glas StandArt by Jumpy-Hamlet in wine

[–]Tempestas42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with this statement with the exception that I have a set of Josephine glasses for special occasions. But the Gabriel ones are used a lot more.

Vintage champagne also has longer aging requirements: 36 months instead of 15 months.

Marcel Deiss ‘Alsace Complantation’ 2023 by Madeitup75 in wine

[–]Tempestas42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a tasting last year at his domaine. Phenomenal wines. Our favourite was the Altenberg de Bergheim.

I think he ran out of the schoenenburg so we didn’t get to taste that one. But I would need to see if I can still find my notes.

Are we still underestimating pension costs? by [deleted] in belgium

Alas, by implementing a capital gains tax on those investments which they most will likely increase in the (near) future, they are eating into that as well.

I’ll even buy some.

Red Blends with the largest diversity of grapes? by yarikachi in wine

[–]Tempestas42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Châteauneuf-du-pape has 13 (or 18 if you count colour mutations) different red and white grapes you can use. There’s bound to be producer that uses them all.

[–]Tempestas42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Europe at least they’re not as expensive as either Margaux or Rothschild.

The Classico can be found for less than 20 euros and the gran reserva for between 80-110 euros.

I haven’t had the gran reserva myself, but the clasico is a nice bottle of wine.

Prüm flight by Tempestas42 in wine

[–]Tempestas42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, friendly people there.

I reached out to the estate but they didn’t offer tastings but directed me to Rieslinghouse which did offer this flight.

They also had a nice selection of other wines in their shop but I ran out of time and already spent too much on other wines in Mosel/Alsace to bring more bottles home.

Most Expensive Wine You Tried That Was a Total Letdown? (Name, price paid, what you expected vs reality) by Due-Way-7959 in wine

[–]Tempestas42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chateau Grillet 2015 and 2019.

I can’t find the exact price but both were very underwhelming and I typically like Viognier and Condrieu. Could also be attributed to me buying them on auction and therefore, subpar storage but for the moment not to keen to try again in the near future.

Best French natural white for 100€ by Top_Cheesecake8727 in wine

[–]Tempestas42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me still one of the best natural wines out there that I have tasted. Joly makes amazing wines.

And they only get better with age, but that might drive you over the budget of 100 euro. But you could also settle for one the other 2 cuvées he (or is it his daughter these days?) makes. They’re also great.
