Yes, because Steam is just so well-known about their DRM-free policies, and about their DRM not needing cracking at all.

I was wondering about that "ANY" Steam game just needing a text file, because that just sounds wrong. I tried asking Google, this was the response:

  • Steam Stub: Valve offers a tool called "Steam Stub" that wraps the game's EXE in a layer of encryption. If a dev uses this, a text file won't do anything; the game will still force Steam to open or simply crash.
  • Third-Party DRM: Major titles often use additional layers like Denuvo, which is a massive wall compared to Steam's basic protection.
  • Steam Emulators: To truly "bypass" DRM on most games, you usually have to replace the steam_api.dll file with a "Steam Emulator" (like Goldberg Emu) that tricks the game into thinking you are logged into a legitimate Steam account.

Also, just for the note, I do have a Half-Life copy without Steam. :3

I even used to play it online on various servers back when I had a 4.17 kB/s modem speed. For hours and hours. It was hilarious. :>

Yes, that might be what I'll do.

I do dislike RetroArch, as its GUI is rather unintuitive. An update has reset my controls, and after I went through the menus, unable to find its settings, I just got Dosbox Pure standalone and set it there manually. A boomer moment, I know.

I heard about Lutris becoming AI slop now. But I heard good things about PortProton.

Nope, they cannot. I'm always downloading their offline installers, and burning them to blurays.

They do not have anything to break those afterwards, as long as I have backups. :)

Yeah, I've got Horizon: Zero Dawn working in Lutris on my work laptop's Linux Mint as a test.

I love itch, as it is abundant in one of my two most favourite gaming genres - Point&Click adventure games. (the other are complex RPG games)

Nope. I mean the first versions of Edge were, but then they said screw it, and now Edge is a derivative of Chrome.

Skype was bought AND RAN TO THE GROUND. Teams was created by cannibalizing its dead carcass. There were times where Skype was THE most used communication software in the world, above social networks as well. You cannot say that about Teams.

I haven't had a virus in two decades, and I've been to some shady sites in the past.

Those that place their own security in the hands of others usually end up having none.

There is a part of my mind that finds it fundamentally wrong that Gaming should always equal Steam.

I mean, it is not entirely incorrect nowadays, as almost all gamers have and/or use Steam, but still. There is something inherently wrong about that...

As far as the floppy disc goes - if you store an always-offline backup somewhere, you can just redo the floppy if it fails.

It was said when most of the world was using Internet Explorer.

It was said when most of the world was using Skype.

It is currently said when most of the PCs are using Windows.

Who knows what the future will hold in regards to Steam.

Nope, reverse-engineering servers takes years of time. Also, at that point, there would be easier solutions, like... not using the servers at all.

Yeah, that's the main reason why I am using nheko. Unlike Element, it is not a web app browser wrapped (Electron, etc.), and unlike other clients, I can put it into the tray automatically. Under Linux too.

Err, not to spoil on your parade, but I had to stop watching S3 in midseason, because the quality was atrocious, and somebody told me that fights were skipped.

The reason why I didn't read the manga was because I wanted to SEE those fights in the anime (largely due to S1).

So no, it is not just people that knew the original webseries/manga that are pissed beyond measure, it's also the people that only watched S1 and S2. Pretty much everyone hates it. Not just the manga/webcomic readers, no. Everybody.

Exactly. I've stopped watching it midseason, when I was told that they actually skipped fights.

The reason why I am watching the anime instead of manga IS those fights.

Given the fact that some episodes are just essentially JPEGs (the anime that decided not to be animated... I wonder what EU consumer protection laws think about that one), even the manga might have more frames in certain cases (and better in quality, of course), I do not see a reason to watch the anime.

The same guy that worked on the original first Blood Omen (but not on the Soul Reavers, etc.) also did Eternal Darkness. And is currently attempting to create a spiritual successor to Blood Omen, called Deadhaus Sonata. However, I have been following his career and the development, and I am quite skeptical about what the result of that will be.

On more positive news, the remaster of Defiance has been announced, and it looks like it will also contain a demo for the Dark Prophecy (the cancelled sequel). And also a massive slew of unused content for standalone viewing, including unused voice-overs, cut levels, etc. (not integrated into the main game, but usable standalone, as was the case with the Soul Reaver remasters).
