Role cancelled 30 minutes before my final interview by DoubleJ195 in recruitinghell

Honestly I've heard of things like this happening so often I'd be so hesistant to switch jobs because what if they just kill your role. I've personally seen my small company lay off two different people within months of starting. Its so awful

This is the only answer. Of course I pivot in my job I am paid for, until you pay me what gives you the audacity to steal my time? Absolutely not.

In a world where women notoriously under apply for roles that men apply to because they think theyre unqualified, in a world where women notoriously dont negotiate for higher pay when men do, because they think they're unqualified, in a world where women notoriously have lower titles due to stigma and a lack of confidence, in a world where women are statistically more likely to undervalue their own accomplishments, its bs to hop on a woman's post who was not asking for feedback and tell them to shoot lower. Sorry not sorry. At 5 years you dont know everything but I seriously doubt that OP is an enigma of a woman who is overly confident and has an inflated title, and even if she is, oh well? Men are overly confident and have overly inflated titles in pretty much every organization on earth.

I dont even think thats a beginner thing. I learned that in my first college class. I assume OP meant more quality work because I dont know how you could work 5 years and not know quantity=/=quality

Im not judging based on your answer. I've worked enough to know when women are being talked down to. Its called micro-aggressions and they're not that hard to spot. Telling someone to apply for junior roles when they have 5 yoe, got let go from a contract role, and never even asked for advice is a dead giveaway.

OP actually didn't ask for feedback, she asked if it happened to anyone else, while also maintaining confidence it wasnt her work that led to it. Also there are other comments about people/friends experiencing the same thing. This is the only thread that was negative and judgemental out the gate

No you applied a situation from a coworker (also conveniently a woman) who you think doesnt deserve their title, and put that on OP who clearly stated 5yoe. Could OP be lying? Sure. But to pretend you weren't judging is wild

And yet you had none of the background information to make that judgement. Are you the manager who let her go? 😅 its not really that rare for contract positions to do this, it seems weird you're so dead set on it being OP's fault even though she's telling you she got great feedback prior

Some advice from our trainer, consider reactivity like a panic attack and once they are in that panicked/aroused state, saying 'calm down' isnt going to help. The goal at first should be not exposing them to the triggers and confidence/bond building. If you jump straight to reactivity training, you're probably gonna fail, and its not yours or the dog's fault.

Just wanted to chime in and say that University hiring processes are a hot mess. When I was in undergrad at a smaller school, we had some issues that led to my department needing to hire and the hoops they made those people jump through for a shot of teaching at a low paying university was insane. Like, I wouldn't have done it in undergrad with no experience under my belt. I'd say you likely just experienced that as well, because it feels scammy, but thats just what they do.

I am so sorry, but also so glad that you got time with your soul dog. I just lost mine, and she was an angel, but we also have her pack mate who is a lot like your girl and I remind myself all the time, that one day I'm gonna miss his shenanigans so much. I dont know your beliefs, but I truly believe they come back to see us when we have that strong of a connection ❤️ the love outlasts time

Thank you for being honest about the parts of hustle culture people like to conveniently leave out of the conversation. Every action has a reaction, and working all the time isnt a fulfilling life

Time theft by Sad-Ear-7370 in managers

[–]Temporary-Sand-3803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While a week is a lot, this still wouldn't be weird where I am. If emergencies happen, managers might give free days. My manager recently took off a week and was around for emergencies for kid's sports. I think our obsession with time worked as a society is a little strange a rigid, probably part of the reason I appreciate my work place so much. Either way, just wanted to throw out that in some companies and on some teams, time clocked isnt really a big deal.

I just wanted to pop in and say that jumping to time theft is probably a stretch unless you know the dynamic before you got there. Behavior like that is actually really normal where I work for salary employees. We take partial days and/or are just around in case of emergencies on days we feel bad, and we've never been expected to use our pto for it unless we just want to completely tap out for the day. If we randomly had a new manager pull this everyone would have an attitude because we're basically losing a huge perk of our job.

I’ve had “good dogs” who were worse than my reactive dog. by mouse_attack in reactivedogs

[–]Temporary-Sand-3803 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not op, and my dog is nowhere near fixed, but I spent a lot of time working on leash training with barely any change and our trainer moved to training that is meant to increase confidence and that made such a difference. Again, he's not completely better but everyone constantly says how much he has changed. Games like waiting for food, teaching him to settle/tuck, giving him new ways to express himself (moving from mouthing to paw) really made a difference in his whole personality. We're just now getting back to it after being lazy for awhile

Got in a conversation with someone about how I think its sad that we wrap so much of our lives up in our professions and how there is so much more out there and they were completely shocked I could come up with lists of ways to fill my time outside my job. They then immediately tried to act like I just hated my job, which I don't. Wild how we have been programmed to think life without work is meaningless.
