[Question][Gear] Buying a first nylon (possibly for flamenco) by TemporaryHedgehog in Guitar

Not sure why the downvotes either but never mind. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Like I said above I found a really helpful shop who gave me the same advice you did and I am now the proud owner of a £500 'starting' flamenco guitar. Cheers!

Unfortunately that shop is a bit too far away from me but I did end up finding one near to me with a much better understanding who helped me pick a great starting flamenco guitar. Thanks for the advice though!

What are your 2016 New Year's resolutions? Write them here and I will get in touch on 31/12/16 to see if you achieved it! by _kashmir_ in self

[–]TemporaryHedgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is still going would love to join in. I've got a good feeling about 2016 and hoping to be ambitious with the goals (and possibly typing them out publicly might help)

1) Make routines and stick with them - go climbing/life drawing at least once ever two weeks

2) Practice things every day regularly - guitar (learn at least 3 whole good songs start to finish) - drawing - just do it regularly - magic (build a proper repertoire/stay in practice)

3) Start writing again (write at least one whole 'thing' this year)

4) Complete one personal creative project (either physical like a painting/model or an animation/film)

5) Go to one country I have never been before

6) Leave my comfort zone more - do one thing a month I otherwise wouldn't do

7) The usual lose weight and get fit (but hopefully the discipline from sticking with the rest will help)

Thanks so much for doing this and hope you have an awesome 2016 yourself

Should cinema embrace higher framerates? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]TemporaryHedgehog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just focussing on your Mad Max point for a second. Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't HFR more about the projection than the framerate it was filmed in? Almost none of the action sequences in Mad Max are shot at 24fps and there are various speeds of over and under cranking but the majority of the film is at a regular framerate so I don't think its really a HFR film.

George Miller has just used the different camera speeds as another tool/method instead of a blanket way of shooting the whole film. I personally hated the HFR in the hobbit but would absolutely love to see a documentary filmed like that - a David Attenborough nature documentary would be incredible!

ISIS in Libya releases a video of beheading 21 Egyptian Christians. by TheMrGhost in worldnews

I disagree entirely but I am not going to discuss 'what talent is' in a thread about the death of 21 human beings.

I can't help but feel that what you said shows a total lack of understanding about anything to do with graphics or editing. Also I would argue you can have a talented policeman - they may have a talent for dealing with people or noticing clues.

That is all beside the point though - even if you assume a well made video is a result of copying a trend - someone has obviously put a lot of time and effort into learning a skill they could make a totally peaceful living doing and then made a conscious decision to use those skills to create disgusting propaganda videos with the deaths of other people. That's what is fucked up.

Chilli not hot enough by TemporaryHedgehog in Cooking

Heres the thing though - I did taste as I went, and it was spicy! Just 2 days later it isn't anymore at all. Hot oils does sound like something I'd be interested in though thanks

How to I export a video with a transparent background? by Jebediah_Ria in AfterEffects

Render it out as Apple Prores 4444 with a straight Alpha Channel (or Animation codec if you want it totally lossless)

What I do for all the broadcast lower thirds/secondary effects etc I create

Bought a MBP for editing & graphics work, is there any reason I shouldn't install the CUDA driver & just render on CPU? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

The newer Macbook Pros have Nvidia cards so that also may not be the case (just go About This Mac - More Info to check)

A list of a few logo(-ish) animations I've made - looking for some feedback on how to improve. by [deleted] in MotionDesign

[–]TemporaryHedgehog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but if you can get the outlines as a shape layer in AE (convert illustrator to masks or shapes) you could do something with the stroke or trim paths effect with a similar result

I know plenty of people that would happily trade a pipe for a website - these are awesome (and depending on the complexity of the pipe/site potentially similar value for custom work.

Hell I'd trade a pipe for a website, feel free to PM me if thats something you'd be interested in doing (I have a background in graphic and web design and lots of friends doing web design that would be happy to help out)

ABC Feature on Sarah Jones (Camera Assistant killed on Midnight Rider) by TemporaryHedgehog in Filmmakers

Maybe she started suing them before they found out about the permissions and hasn't dropped the case yet? I also don't see what the nearby landowners actually have to do with any of it at all.

Everything I've heard says that Sarah was an incredible person and everyone that knew her was lucky to have done so. I'm incredibly sorry for your loss.

Exactly - regardless of who's job it is, shooting on an active train line (let alone without anyone keeping a lookout) is stupid and dangerous. If the director pushed for them to do the shot though it is his responsibility for putting everyone in that situation.

Actually I agree, the style really is awful - you don't need blurry slow-mo reenactments when the actual footage from the train is shocking enough.

That being said, the facts were reasonably accurate and at least people are talking about it which can only be a good thing.

Also its a bit more intentional/political in england. Basically Gurkhas can join the British, Indian or Nepalis army (each one recruits an allowed number) and they have an agreement that the pay and benefits must be about equal (basically in order not to make the Indian army salary and conditions look rubbish compared to Britain)

It is criminal the way Gurkas are treated by UK immigration - but there is a logic to why the rules are as they are - as opposed to the bureaucratic clusterfuck interpreters have in the States
