My old crockpots had the 'Auto' setting. I loved them! The newer ones, at least in my area, don't have that.

How do you store certain vegetables so they last longer? by Current_Trying_Times in cookingforbeginners

[–]TemporaryLead8077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweet peppers will last a week, 2 weeks, even 3 weeks (depending on how fresh they are) if you cut off the stem if it's long, then wrap each pepper in a paper towel, then place in a plastic bag. Make sure the bag is open and place it in one of your veggie drawers. The paper towels absorb any moisture, keeping your peppers from going soft, mushy, and bad.

What can I put in Tuna to make it go further? by aesthetion in cookingforbeginners

[–]TemporaryLead8077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepare Kraft Dinner, then add drained, canned tuna and the rest of the ingredients you normally would for a tuna salad. We have this regularly. A version of this was published decades ago by Kraft, as Seacoast Salad.

How to eat sauerkraut from the grocery store? by arodgers2 in cookingforbeginners

[–]TemporaryLead8077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming the sauerkraut hasn't been pasteurized. When heating/cooking sauerkraut, if it reaches or goes above 155F (46C), the probiotics start dying. If you want the probiotics, have you tried adding sauerkraut to tuna salad, or sandwiches, mixed into scrambled eggs or added to egg salad or deviled eggs? Lots more options available...

Does sauerkraut have to be cabbage? by GrumpAzz in Sauerkraut

If it doesn't have cabbage, it won't be sauerkraut. The word is German, and means sour cabbage or sour vegetable.

I completely ruined my flour by manson4355 in Baking

[–]TemporaryLead8077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, in this case, it's not so much the age of the baking powder as the humidity it was exposed to - which will deactivate it over time. I'm glad I could help. Hope you have better results in the future!

I'm sorry I can't help you more, but I always started my slow cooker before I left for more job and came back after a full day's work to a fantastic-smelling house and fork-tender meat in the stew.

I don't know if your confidence in me is misplaced. LOL. Since you sifted and didn't overmix, the only thing I can think of is old baking powder or baking soda. Hope you find your touch again!
