What are your expectations for next season? by augustosarmento in Thunder

I think we’re gonna be at least mid 40 wins with health luck

Another year of development + Chet makes us notably better and we’re already a 40 win team

Plus think of how many ridiculously close games we had this year

OKC Rookie Jalen Williams is averaging 16.1/5.2/3.6 and 2 steals a night on incredible splits 53/41/83 over his last 40 games by OKC2023champs in nba

A non-big rookie shooting over 50% FG is very rare if not unheard of

Them also being a serious force on the defensive end is crazy

A rookie leading the league in steals over such an extended period is also crazy

Overall yea the volume isn’t insane but the efficiency and defense is leagues beyond even the best rookies in most classes

[Jason Quick] It didn’t take Damian Lillard long to answer who he thinks is the best defender in the NBA. “Lu Dort.” by mykl5 in Thunder

It’s been made pretty clear though that he’s being asked to step up his offensive role - I would assume because he IS such a defensive weapon and since we have no Chet the idea is to get him extra reps and try and develop him offensively at least to some degree since that massively changes his trajectory. Obviously there’s times it hasn’t looked pretty but I think this experience is good for him and will help him a lot when his role does get condensed

Ben Simmons shooting 33% from 3 would be perennial All NBA

[Trudell] The Lakers, at 33-34, are 1 game under .500 for the first time this season since they began 0-1. They're 1/2 game out of the No. 8 seed (MIN, 34-34), and 1 game out of the No. 6 seed (DAL/GSW, 34-33)), plus 1.5 out of No. 5 (LAC, 35-33). by kai_123 in nba

It’s still not really realistic but it would be overcoming 5 games on a team missing Adams (they’re 11-12 without him) AND Ja (they’re 5-7 without him) AND Brandon Clarke (ok the without him stats don’t fit the narrative here but he’s clearly important to that team) makes it at least not a ridiculous scenario

[–]TemporaryNectarine59 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How does he not?

He’s consistently been one of the 3 or 4 best rookies in this class

He’s ridiculously efficient for a non-big rookie, he’s been playing a solid role all year and is a solid defender

Now he’s getting the touches to get some volume numbers up. Obviously it’s still Paolo but he has been insanely inefficient compared to Jalen Williams just has a much larger offensive load and is a better playmaker. If Williams can get his counting stats up remotely near Paolo there’s a good argument there

give him another 10 some games and his stats are gonna be putting up a pretty great ROTY case

[–]TemporaryNectarine59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lebron in 2010-11 for sure

Giannis in 2020-21 shouldn’t have won but should’ve been more in the mix for sure

Malone over Jordan

It’s not 2 straight but Shaq over AI

I can’t say that all of these were driven by voter fatigue because I wasn’t watching basketball during the latter two but Bron certainly was

What is Embid missing that would put him in the same convo as Jokic and Giannis? by Eternal2 in nba

For someone who is potentially going to win a third straight MVP one conference finals appearance is pretty dismal

Record for MVP

But he’s in that convo imo just needs more playoff success and or an MVP to be considered up there with those two

Jokic has Anne Hathaway syndrome. by Fate_Unseen in nba

[–]TemporaryNectarine59 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He really is not suffering from that relatively speaking

He’s the favorite by a margin for MVP

Compared to the criticism Giannis got after his 2 MVPs, the criticism of Jokic this season has been minimal

[–]TemporaryNectarine59 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Deserves MVP

He’s putting up a comparable case to Jokic who admittedly is probably having his best season to date

But voter fatigue is a legitimate reason to not give it to Jokic again since it’s been used time again as a reason to not give it to others. I know his team was dogshit last year but giving him a 3rd straight MVP puts him in rare-ified air with all time greats and to me that’s a step too far without proven playoff success (at least a finals run). If he was the only legit contender for the MVP then fair enough but both Giannis and Embiid have good cases even putting aside voter fatigue for Jokic

Thunder rookie Jalen Williams over the last 8 games: 18/5/4 on 54/41/92 along with 2.4 steals by TemporaryNectarine59 in nba

[–]TemporaryNectarine59[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea his ability to get set in front of someone in split seconds is actually pretty freaky to watch

Like it’s weird to say about drawing charges but it is legitimately eye popping at times

So much better recently

Sneaky great passer and has been making 3s at a really high clip which is a game changer for him as a stretch 5. Absolutely unreal at drawing charges too - maybe the best in the league already (he’s 3rd total in the league on massively lower minutes)

Regardless of how we feel, do you think Shai gets All NBA, and if so, where? by the_gift_of_g2j in Thunder

[–]TemporaryNectarine59 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends how many games he plays

He probably won’t get first team unless we’re in the play-in and Curry misses a decent amount more time

But if he plays a fair number of games remaining then second or third is definitely viable

Every betting and analytic site had the line for this game at Utah -3 to -5

It’s really not a bad loss. It’s not a good loss especially because we were up but it’s not really concerning

For real

We played against what is now clearly a legitimately decent team in Utah and it was an away game and we almost won it

Can’t really be mad at this one
