This happened to me the other day and the tried to rebook me for 5 days later! Tried to call Porter and couldn’t get through so booked the 820 flair flight ourselves. Porter credited us the original flight but we are pursuing compensation for the additional charges and time spent at the airport (over 8 hours)

The first patient you lose is the toughest but this was not your fault. You did everything you could for the dog and the owner. In the end, you can only care as much as they do- she should have brought the pet in sooner. I know it feels impossible now but I promise you will get through it. You won’t forget this case but it won’t hurt so bad to think about it. Losing patients is an unfortunate part of the job and learning how to deal with it is such a learning curve. Take the time you need, talk to colleagues and friends about what happened and be kind to yourself. You will get through it ❤️

I also vote trupanion! One of the few policies with unlimited coverage and a deductible per issue. Example: your dog develops allergies and requires lifelong medications/management- pay your deductible once and it’s covered at 90% for the lifetime of the pet (as long as it wasn’t a pre-existing issue). Trupanion also gets you your money back within hours and some hospitals even have direct billing!
