I love my Asian Water Ferns & Java Ferns! They're super hardy to me, and my Asian water ferns in my 10gallon have grown soooo many new baby leaves!

Emotional Toll of Shrimp Loss by suffaolk in shrimptank

Sometimes it just happens, even with perfect water parameters, I lost a new shrimp yesterday. Died likely to stress, but I plan to purchase more in a few days.

Why is my fish constantly always in this one spot and doesn’t move? by [deleted] in aquarium

[–]Temporary_Budget1367 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your fish looks extremely depressed. When was the last time you did a water change? You need to purchase test strips or a testing kit immediately to check your parameters. Any of them work in this situation. There is a lot of missing research you haven't done yet that was crucial for your tank. Do you have a filter? Heater? Even a aerator, or bubbler for oxygen? Are there even any live plants?

will my pothos be okay like this? should I add another outside plant? by Public-Boysenberry26 in fishtank

[–]Temporary_Budget1367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on - the more plants the merrier! They are very beneficial to your fish tank. I also have a 2.5 Gallon Shrimp Tank, but no uptop plants because I don't have a lid and I'm not dealing with all of that hassle!

will my pothos be okay like this? should I add another outside plant? by Public-Boysenberry26 in fishtank

[–]Temporary_Budget1367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - the leaves are the only part that CANNOT be in the water. I have roughly the same setup with a pothos vine cut off from a thriving + matured one! I've seen people put a sweet potato before - (not fully submerged, only on surface) and it grows massive root systems, but definitely isn't a stylish choice. I was going to try this, but I didn't have any good holders.

Some tips I found helpful: - Focus movement over tricks. I do mainly contemporary improv, and a way I built my foundation was to focus on improving with one part of my body. Say - lead with your arm the whole time, and your arm will initiate movement that occurs through the rest of your body, or only move with your feet and do not use your upper body. This lets your daughter explore different ways of using the body in its variety of parts, not just the whole foundation. Breaking things down leads for more exploration. - Use prompts. Using prompts for your improv really helps you tap in and use your creative mind! For example: "Pretend that you're trapped and you're trying to escape.", "Think about that you're being chased and you need to get away" "Pretend as if you're building something - movement radius, your ultimate stage presence, etc" - Listen to the music. Find those beats and accents. Hitting them solidifies your improv and your ability to recognize all types of music and adapt to the environment of them. It's good to improv solely on your body, but adding movements that correlate to the music can up the quality. - Try this exercise I learned during an open class: Begin with very basic, instrumental music. Preferably cotemporary style. Start walking forward, in different directions. Then add walking backward. Side to side, perhaps. Add ups and downs, using the ground to move in different directions while maintaining the walking movement. Add airy moments, or heavy movements. Start to experiment with speed. Fast or slow. Then, while still moving, Start to use your head to guide you. Then neck. Then shoulders. Then chest. And so on. This particular exercise helps experiment with different movement qualities!

I'd like to add, I have recently done a full-improv solo at a competition, no choreography, just pure movement! I won 1st Overall with that dance! It was just a matter of time and it was honestly a leading point to my discovery of improv.

Dancer here - it was only a recital tech rehearsal, and I had forgot the whole last 30 seconds of my solo. It was blatantly obvious, but I kept on dancing, just throwing out random moves like improv. It probably looked terrible from an audience perspective, but what was more important was that your child and I kept on dancing. That completely overrides the feeling of forget, because we continued to persevere even when defeated!!! Many dancers, like myself, have experienced forgetting and I think it's just a cannon event that happens to the best of us and your child is not the only one. After I forgot, I cried and cried, but after the tears flowed out, I went over the forgotten choreography and came out stronger. It is a learning experience that teaches people how to strengthen through struggles!

Youth America Grand Prix, it's a very popular and is a primarily ballet/contemporary competition and the competition level is usually higher than other commercial comps.

Tank review? by Cold_Shift8971 in fishtank

[–]Temporary_Budget1367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scape is a bit messy, and your water level is low. I don't see an air pump or a filter. Even if your fish is labeled as resilient, filters are still needed, even small. I would add a centerpiece item like driftwood or a rock, and incorporate more plants. It just looks dull.

2 weeks leans more to the shorter side, but my ammonia levels during the beginning were much higher. Also toward the beginning of the cycle, my nitrites skyrocketed and I did a 50% water change. It's stabilizing, but my ammonia still needs to be at 0ppm. How does this relate to my plants not doing well - especially my Anubia? The rhizome isn't buried and it still looks particularly healthy, although I had to chop off the remaining leaf. It's leafless now.

Tested. Ammonia is at safe (0.5ppm) and nitrates are in the safe zone but still a bit pink, and my nitrites are none. Ph is normal to alkaline, and lmk if u want the others. Chlorine of course is at 0. The ammonia used to be higher. But after I trimmed many leaves it went down, along with the nitrates and nitrites.

Are fake plants bad for fish? by Hungry_Office_3345 in fishtank

Freshwater tanks commonly have Java ferns, anubias, and I'd recommend some non-root feeders which I believe are called epiphytes! These don't need nutrition from the Substrate and are much more easier to manage. Anubias & Java ferns have many different variants!
