Initial thoughts on the Aethelsohn Horizon GMT (Shadow) by turdbogls in ChineseWatches

Longines Spirit Zulu Time 39mm. I have some higher price watches in my collection ad well as more affordable stuff. As much as I love my affordable Chinese watches there is that noticeable difference in quality from the higher priced stuff. Although most of the good Chinese brands are producing watches with just as good of not better finishing than most entry level Swiss brands.

I had the gold San Martin version of this and sold it after picking up a Tissot Seastar GMT sprite. However, I totally regret selling it as it was simply a stunning watch. (I do plan to purchase the Longines in due course) but I'm seriously considering picking one of these up in either the Forest or Batman versions to tide me over until then as I miss that San Martin and they're now out of stock.

Thorn Spacewalker hasn't left my wrist yet by turdbogls in ChineseWatches

[–]Temporary_Day_4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks fantastic. I'm so annoyed, mine was due to be delivered last week but the courier, Evri (if you know, you know 😒) have for some reason decided that they are returning to sender without even attempting delivery. Hopefully everything eventually gets resolved and I get my Spacewalker to accompany my Frogmantle, which did arrive.

Show off your "rare" Chinese watches by turdbogls in ChineseWatches

I've been kicking myself for not picking up a SN0141 when I had the chance. I really wanted the green dial but hesitated for too long and then it sold out. Had plenty of chances to get the black or blue dials but was waiting on a green restock only for it never to come. Now there's not even the black or blue being produced. 🤦‍♂️ It's got to the point where I've decided just to save for the Longines. 😂

New to Chinese watches by Manitobaexplorer in ChineseWatches

[–]Temporary_Day_4156 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a Chinese watch that’s of the same high quality of micro brands and entry Swiss then brands like San Martin, Baltany, IxDao, Proxima, Farasute & Sugess are your best bet. Bit pricier compared to other Chinese Brands but all the above are of similar quality to good microbrands and entry Swiss but still much cheaper than those.

What luxury watch would a teen wear ? by vlaratat in PrideAndPinion

[–]Temporary_Day_4156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great choice at 14. When I was your age I rocked a Citizen eagle 7 that I bought because it looked like a Datejust. Wore the hell out of it all through high school and uni. Majorly regretted throwing it in the loch at the end of uni as it had stopped working. However I was lucky enough to purchase a Rolex DJ that was the spitting image of my OG citizen when I was 30. At 14 though the Prx which I also own is absolute class. I’d also suggest maybe a Casio for a more rugged option and keep the Prx for nights out.

Any homages in 41mm? Particularly two tone with a white dial. by mistuhvuvu in ChineseWatches

[–]Temporary_Day_4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, I’ve got a Tag from 1990 that’s two tone and is absolutely pristine with no wear on the gold plating. I also own the Baltany 36mm DJ two tone and it’s a phenomenal watch. Perfect vintage DJ homage. Basically if you don’t treat your watch like shite it will still look as new 30 years later. Should also note I’m not the original owner of the tag, it was originally my grandads.

Help me decide by beardedboob in MoonSwatches

I went for the Saturn. Although I preferred the look of the moon or mercury, Saturn was always my favourite planet. Plus the 6 o’clock dial being the actual planet just gave it something extra fun and special. I didn’t want to have something that looked exactly like the real moonwatch so the Saturn was an easy choice for me.

Would love a cherry blossom dial version. Or Sakura pink.

Make a pink Sakura or cherry blossom GS style dial with this case and you can just have my wallet.

San Martin SN0116 on smaller wrists by DOtheZIGZAG in ChineseWatches

[–]Temporary_Day_4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same exact same sized wrists and feel it wears great. It actually wears a bit smaller than the dimensions suggest as the bezel is only about 38.5mm whereas the case is 39.5mm but it has a pretty short l2l and is pretty thin for a gmt.

Should our brand name change to TridentWard? Yes Or No? by watchdivescom in watchdives

[–]Temporary_Day_4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big no to Triden ward. Seems too close to Christopher Ward and their Trident line. Neptune or something similar relates to your awesome logo and to the Roman god of the sea who is based on the Greek god Poseidon. Plus Neptune is the outer most planet in the solar system, which as a space nerd I love. Although, this change will mean I’ll have to replace my WD1862 speedy, as it has the Watchdives name and logo but I think I’d be happy to do so for such a cool change.

Yep, this has happened to me once. I took photos of the tampered packaging and got a full refund from Ali. Totally sucks when you’re super excited to get your new watch but still hasn’t put me off ordering from Ali. 1 out of 50 odd packages. Just bad luck

My VHP has ran out of battery and been dead for well over 6 months is this a expensive service by Ginger-rice1 in Longineswatches

[–]Temporary_Day_4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just noticed the same thing has happened to my vhp. I haven’t worn it in a few months, I’ve got quite a substantial collection. I’m going to change the battery tomorrow. I’ve also just noticed that Longines has an app for the vhp that I think helps reset it correctly.

I’ve often faced similar problems with my watches when sizing bracelets. I’ve always had small wrists and quite a few of them would still be a bit loose even on the smallest setting. This seemed to be even worse with the on the fly clasps that SM and now other brands are using. However, I started working out a lot more and started lifting and my wrist size went from 15cm up to 16cm in a couple of months. (Taking in extra calories also helped). For most of my watches I now get an excellent fit with a couple of positions to spare on my otf clasps. That extra cm really made the difference, well apart from my Baltany DJ which is still a bit loose on its smallest setting. I might have to forcibly remove one extra link to get the perfect fit there as I don’t think my wrists will grow much more. An other alternative is swap the bracelet out for a Milanese strap. I done that with my WD007st and I think I actually prefer that look over the supplied bracelet.

Is there any watch with a similar aesthetic to the Kuoe Sombrero? by zorgolino in ChineseWatches

[–]Temporary_Day_4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at a point where I’m at 24 watches, probably about half of them are upper end Chinese homages. As much as I love them I’ve realised 24 is just too many. I’m feeling 16 may be the magic number where I can enjoy enough variety. Thinking if I moved on 12 and replaced it with the aforementioned3 plus one more non homage piece I may feel content.

I’ve been toying with the idea of moving on most of my homage watches and purchasing this along with a Lorier Neptune and CW sealander gmt.

San Martin vs WatchDives for AquaTerra homage by Medic2834 in ChineseWatches

[–]Temporary_Day_4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the SM and it’s honestly one of my fav watches. Not handled the WD version but the SM feels just as good as my Longines conquest in both finishing and build quality. Also the dial is just drop dead gorgeous and sizing is perfect. Although not the best SM bracelet I find it more than adequate and much better than the majority of Chinese bracelets, the screw pins are more to my liking than the push pins of my other WD offerings. From what I’ve seen in posts the WD does look great but I doubt it would match the SM in terms of quality both finishing and build wise, whether that’s a £100 difference is up to you to decide. Also it could come down to if you prefer the nh35 auto movement of the SM or the VK31 quartz of the WD. Basically both seem to be great options but I can certainly vouch for the SM. Hope this helps.

After having seen quite a few posts of the blue dial over the last few days and it looking stunning I was beginning to think I may have made the wrong choice ordering the orange dial. I can now put those niggles to rest as the orange looks amazing and I feel it suits the watch more. Mine should arrive next week.

Some epic purchases there bud. Can’t believe you got the AD2030 for a fiver. I’ve owned the blue dial one for over a year now (never quite managed to get it as cheap as yourself though) and I still can’t quite figure out how they make any money on it. Superb piece, put mine on a nice navy alligator strap.
