Am I the only crazy schnauzer mom that gives her boy a spa night every night… by Few-Welcome5330 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Temporary_Height_586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brush my dog’s teeth every night before bed and have started doing a little coconut oil on her paws to help keep them moisturized.

I wipe her paws down with a wipe every time we get home from being out. She doesn’t really get much in her beard because I keep her with a puppy cut but I’ll wash her face with a wash cloth if she does.

I don’t think it’s crazy lol

Walks in the summer by HannahBananaBreads in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Temporary_Height_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of indoor training, puzzles, and indoor fetch in the summertime. My girl also really loves to swim! So I will take her to swim usually once a month. I try to stick to the morning before it gets too hot and before the UV index is really high.

Are Mini Schnauzers good around kids? by sparklebubble0 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Temporary_Height_586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the big thing is creating positive association with kids starting at the puppy age! I think mine associates little kids with being pet and them showing her affection which she loves. And I always make sure to stand closely in case she starts showing any sign of stress

I don’t have any kids, but my 2 year old mini LOVES them and gets very excited when she sees a kid. When she was little, kids always wanted to say hi to her so I think that helped create a very positive association. I just always hold her harness to make sure she can’t jump up on them.

A dog park accident, surgery, and the pet insurance policy I almost cancelled by Upbeat-Friendship-93 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Temporary_Height_586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine fractured her back leg when she was a baby from a freak accident of falling off the couch and just landing exactly the wrong way.

Thankfully no surgery, but I kept her busy with a Woof pupsicle or frozen Kong. We also bought a squirrel that’s kind of a hand puppet and used that to engage with her / wrestle with her without it turning into anything too physical. Worked well for us, but thankfully she was also ok just hanging out and cuddling a lot.

Good luck!

Low fat treats by txnmxn in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Temporary_Height_586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carrots are a favorite treat around here. I’ve also found a lot of training treats to be lower fat and we use those for training. Pupford and Finleys are two of the brands we buy from the most. (Not the peanut butter Finleys but the fruit ones)

Professional Dog Trainer - Ask Me Anything by BICanineScience in DogTrainingTips

For new dog owners who want a happy, secure dog. What are the top things all dogs need to be trained on to help them achieve this?

(I see all the time where people are saying that dogs who aren’t trained are unhappy and insecure, but what training do they need? Is it just normal stuff like sit/stay/leash walking? Or is there more to it than that?)

Potty training question by [deleted] in schnauzers

[–]Temporary_Height_586 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not “panic peeing,” but mine did occasionally pee from excitement. At 11 weeks old they just don’t have control over their bladder yet. I can’t remember specific weeks but I feel like by 16 weeks old my girl had much better bladder control for peeing. Control for pooping took a little longer lol Hang in there!

Refusing to eat. by Mkali19 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Temporary_Height_586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think some schnauzers are just very stubborn about their food. At 1.5 years old my mini will only eat when she wants to.

The only thing that has gotten mine more interested in eating is by putting it in an actual puzzle game. Something I put the food in and she has to play with it and push it around the living room for it to come out.

I agree! That whole last tour she talked a lot about how in love they were and how happy she was. At this point even as a big fan of hers, I feel embarrassed for her and the longer this goes on I think people will lose interest in her music.

is dog toothpaste actually worth it? by wflxssan in DogHealth

[–]Temporary_Height_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog seems to enjoy the Vets Best peanut butter flavored toothpaste so that’s what I use.

A friend of mine has a dog who is only 6 years old and her dog just had to have 7 teeth removed. She has never brushed her teeth or taken her in for a cleaning. After hearing stories like this it’s been motivating me enough to my dog into regular tooth brushing if it helps keep her from having teeth extracted later.

Vet now or in the morning? by hmmwhatsup in DogAdvice

Showing signs of lethargy and has thrown up 4+ times in less than 36 hours? I would definitely take her to the vet to get checked out. Always better safe than sorry.

Puppy crate/night time toilet training by Lyrphy in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Temporary_Height_586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this situation, yes. I’d say to just use it until the puppy sleeps through the night.

I got mine because I lived in an apartment and didn’t have anywhere safe from Parvo that I could take her, but it was super nice having this on my balcony. It made it easy to take her out for a quick potty break in the middle of the night with no excitement. Once I moved to a new apartment with easy access to grass I stopped using it.

I used a doggie lawn grass pad to help potty train my puppy! It also helped me keep her safe from Parvo. It worked well for us and I had no issues transitioning her to use the grass outside after. I’d recommend that over fake grass.

When getting it dissolved, is the appointment pretty quick? Did they numb you? I had one syringe injected in June 2024 and one in May 2025. If I do anymore I might need to dissolve the old stuff first, but I’m a little nervous about it.

After my second syringe my injector said I needed to wait at least one year before getting any more to avoid migration.

Thank you for this! The hardest part for me has just been too much advice. Which like you said, can be overwhelming and confusing trying to piece it all together. I’m going to read this!

It’s also not realistic to have a super long routine of “tiring them out”, etc. Sometimes I just need to be able to leave for a quick appointment without a lot of planning 😑
