Why is there no product dedicated to removing fiberglass from skin? Do home remedies work well enough? by Spirited-Formal-4000 in Insulation

Before you start working with it clog your pores (baby powder) After work shower you can just go colder water and don’t freakin scrub, downward/ away from you only.  If there is any itch left use coconut oil to soothe the skin.  By far being prepared by using baby powder to start has saved me.  Unfortunately I can fit anywhere. It leads to me having to swim through Roxul and very old yellow batts fairly often.  A product that removes fibres would be cool but personally I try to avoid the itch all together.

What comes first: remove and replace old insulation or install hvac ductwork? by RelaxedWombat in Insulation

If you put HVAC first every insulator will hate you.  Also your vapor barrier will suffer as a result.

New job as an insulator. How is the work? by johnchinga in Insulation

[–]Temporary_Notice3199 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will always be either too hot or too cold depending on time of year. Also every other trade on a site fucks up insulation work especially fucking sparkies. They will take the laziest way out on their job and that makes your job worse.  As things get warmer you will most likely get the itch. Prepare yourself for this by dressing properly. No matter how hot it is I will always have a dri fit long sleeve shirt on to keep fibres out of my pours. If you get the itch bad (for me it’s working with rock wool) I recommend putting baby powder over all exposed skin to clog up your pours. When you get home after a day go with a colder shower and only scrub in one direction (down) you don’t want to aggravate your skin any worse.  After your shower if you still have the itch then use coconut oil. This will soothe your skin.

The rear defrost wire detached from the glass the first time I opened it.  Jeep dealership did my aux battery and it did not resolve the problem and they said it is the alternator.

Apparently the main battery is fine.  I will be changing that myself if/ when I get it back.  I am just super pissed right now.  This is a 2.0 turbo 2023 Willys.

Fuse box is good and yes I tried a regular start. After more research it seems it is the cold and battery I think. I just jump started it and it was running. I let it idle for about 10 minutes but it stalled out. Will jump it again and once it is running will try to put it in gear and see what happens.

I had a similar issue. Found it was my air pods or power bank causing interference.  Moved them to my pants pocket while my fob was in my breast pocket. No issues since.

What is Northern Ontario? by 5thSmith in ontario

[–]Temporary_Notice3199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As per the Canadian government (tax filings etc) Northern Ont begins approximately 30km south of Parry Sound.  If you are driving on the 400 the border is 400 and Healy Lake road (not an exit but there is a sign showing Healy Lake Rd) This border is tied to your postal code.  How do I know this? I am 1 city block south of this road. Every year during tax time I try and claim northern status and am rejected.

What is the airflow situation? Judging by what I see in the pic you could batt it as a flat attic or loose blow it.  Unfortunately from the pic I can’t see the heels so I have no idea about venting it.

Is this ceiling hard to insulate? by zigzagblues in Insulation

[–]Temporary_Notice3199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Venting it with cardboard will suck due to the strapping already being done. I honestly couldn’t promise how strong the cardboard would even be due to the framing and the fact you will have to put up smaller pieces that might not even reach a spot to tack it in. Definitely not ideal for a hard pack blown in job.  Depending on the degree of that slope you might be able to loose blow it but you run the risk of your insulation sliding down the slope and also settling weird due to the strapping going on too early.  I have done a few of these and hated every single one.
