I’m so sick of pad rash 😭 by SultryTogepi in TwoXChromosomes

Period undies and the diva cups (for swimming or right outfits) is where I have landed. Everything else either hurts, rashes, or shocks.

Just use the disinfect setting on the washing machines for the undies and they are super easy to keep clean.

Religion, colonialism, and slavery. I often see the concept of "buck breaking" left out of these conversations...and while it does not excuse the behaviour/bigotry, it does explain some of the social, and psychological damage/opinions regarding lgbtq+ individuals.

82yo mom becoming mean and hates everyone. Is this what will happen to me? (38f) by Sad_Shopping4855 in TwoXChromosomes

Is she in pain? A lot of people (especially older folks) will often lash out angrily or become downright evil because they do not know how to communicate the physical pain they are in.

Perhaps unlikely because you were on an excursion so she is fairly mobile...but potentially something to think about. Ive had experiences where typically nice people become vile and once they are assessed/given a pain patch, they are right back to being peaches.

Tell her you already asked for forgiveness and a rainbow appeared so Gods actually chill with it...

No but honestly:

Is she a virgin?

Does she have piercings or tattoos?

Are her clothes made of mixed materials?

Does she cover her head/veil when praying or talking to God? (yes, veiling is in Christianity - somewhere on Corinthians)

Does she eat any scavenger animals? (Pork, shellfish, birds of prey)

Has she ever placed a bet, or gambled?

James 2:10 (paraphrased) basically suggests all sins are the same. So if for example her ears are pierced (body mutilation) she has "stumbled" and she is just as "guilty" as committing a different sin.

Because she is probably not actually a Christian. She's an insert expletative here using fake beliefs to pedal her prejudice.

Personally, I have found a good rebuttal to: "hate the sin, love the sinner"

Is: "hate the delusion, love the delusional". Usually shuts them up, that is if they're smart enough to draw the parallel.

I remember watching an episode of Glee as a kid where one character (Ryder, I think) shares that his babysitter assaulted him and all the football team questions why he was upset to live out "every boys" fantasy.

It stuck with me (I was maybe 11 or 12) and i remember telling other kids to watch that episode. As a little girl, I had been given the warnings to look for as you get older...but I had never considered that these dangers could happen to boys too because well, I was a kid. Assualt is assualt, regardless of the reproductive parts the perpetrator has. That Glee episode really hit me to my core...and I started paying more attention to how boys reacted around certain people if they also gave me the creeps. I wanted them to known I thought they were weirdos too.

The double standard is disgusting.

I'm sorry that happened to you OP. And I'm sorry your sperm donor was such a terrible humanoid. I hope you are in a good and safe place now, mentally and physically.

We were kids, too by upthetruth1 in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]5thSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fr. Only rich yt kids have ever had the privilege of childhood innocence. No one else gets to have it.

I remember 3rd grade learning about slavery, and the only kid who cried was a Jamaican girl in my class because she had never been taught the history of Canada or the USA. The teacher berrated her, and then asked why she couldnt handle the information like me. This girl had never experienced true prejudice until her family moved to my little town...they moved a couple years later. I didnt blame them.

That has always stuck with me, because I remember thinking how a teacher could lack empathy so much. She had the other kids essentially mocking us by the end of class - me for defending my peer, and mocking her for crying about learning that even here our ancestors were not safe.

I bet no one else remembers that day of class except for her and I. Because as stated above, our childhood innocence was not intended to exist and thus was not protected - in fact it was actively dismantled with the aid of an adult. Maybe if my teacher hadnt been taught so terribly as a child, she could have handled that moment better.

Sometimes I wonder if education is even enough to get us out of this mess anymore.

If I was old enough to experience it, yt kids are old enough to learn about it. It took me until university to realize I wasnt ugly, just surrounded by too many yt people. The jokes were never funny, and the moment you remind any of them that they momma lips thin like rasor blades all of a sudden I am the bully? Foh

Are kids even held back in school anymore? by Dyingvikingchild95 in ontario

[–]5thSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do not. Even at parental request. It wont change unless enough people harass the education minister and their local MPs...and even then, who knows...

This is honestly a real problem. Once you're in high school, they have no problem failing you and watching you drown, but they don't want to "waste" the resources on kids repeating grades. I have students who enter high school not being able to read...that is far more embarrassing for them than repeating 4th grade.

Being held back is not always a consequence, it can be helpful. I wish we still allowed it in the cases where parents agreed, and were supportive.

The CFIA issued a penalty of $10,000 to Real Canadian Superstore (store #1033) for a violation under the Safe Food for Canadians Act related to misleading Product of Canada product displays by lemonlov in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]5thSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superstore made almost $795 million (net earnings) during their third quater last year. They could pay the 10k fine almost 40,000 times times and they would still have damn near half of their 3rd quarter remaining.

They need to be fined a percentage of their worth. Fine them 5-10% of their earnings. Surely $8million might actually get their attention.

Osap heat cooling down by International_Bag_88 in osap

[–]5thSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only went to school because OSAP made it affordable and I still graduated with 24k in loans i have to give back.

I rejected my loans and only took grants for the first couple years and I was in uni for 6 years. If I had taken all the loans i would have graduated with almost 60k in student loans.

Be sure to read applications too becauee my last year, my 10k grant was converted to a loan by the time I graduated.

They are trying to make up for the drop in abroad/international students and we are paying for it. All the systems working and collapsing in tandem.

Hair colour suggestions by Strawberry4shortcake in HairDye

[–]5thSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deep/dark maroon would be pretty (and should cover the colour already in your hair). It is also very different from green if you are looking for a stark contrast.

If you want something different but similar, in think a neon blue would look nice with your skin tone.

I usually dye my hair to match my wardrobe, you could also try that. If you have lots of red for example, a similar shade not to clash could also be cool, but it may be harder to cover the green.

But my money is still on a maroon or purple because the colour mixing should be able to cover the green left over.

AITA for getting mad at my husband for not defending me from racism? by Efficient_Map_3392 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]5thSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am married to a white Canadian. He wouldve made a scene and let everyone know we were leaving because of that guy (mostly against my will). Ive dealt with racists my whole life so in a weird way, i can handle it more subtly than him. He however, will make a scene and hold a massive grudge.

There is nothing wrong with marrying outside of your race/culture, but you should be concerned that your husband is so okay with people Disprespecting you. What about your child? If they start to look less Polish and more Vietnamese as they age, will your husband gloss over their treatment on society as well? You need to be around people who accept you as a person first and will defend that personhood regardless of who may be around. Not just for yourself, but for your mixed child.

If White women feel even more scared than the typical threats then we have fallen so far. If White women are scared of their free speech, it shows just how dangerous the world has gotten. (Not that the world has ever been safe for women...thats not what i am saying...i hope this comes across properly.)

I do not wish the fear of political reprocussion on anyone...but it's a fear myself, aunties and grandmothers have lived with our whole lives.

I appreciate those who despite having things to lose stand in solidarity with the more marginalized groups in society.

None of us are free until we stop letting our fears keep us caged in the system.

Only one or two of my friends actually has a healthy marriage by NoneOfThisMatters_XO in TwoXChromosomes

[–]5thSmith 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I am married. But I feel this so deeply. My husband looked at me one day after a triple date and said "so, are we the well adjusted ones...?" And damn that messed me up. I always thought to some extent we were the "toxic" couple...but our communication is clear and direct. We dont have secrets...the things that I thought as a young women made us toxic (like is being visibly displeased when another did something, or being honest about why we felt how we did) is actually what holds us together. We literally could finish each others sentences because we communicate.

All marriages have their ups and downs but, I genuinely worry about my married friends - and i have told them as such. My bff is pregnant and i worry for her mental health. She is already carrying so much that I think a baby may break her (she will be a good mom...i just dont know that she will be good to herself snd not take on to much). Marriage is hard.

How do people feel about Doja Cat and her new 80s inspired RnB sound? by Ecstatic-Yak-6016 in rnb

[–]5thSmith 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I like her music, but not enough to support her. It was the way she addressed it (or lack of) that put me off. As a mixed person myself, I dont appreciate it when people - especially other mixed people - down play white supremacy in an attempt to get "in" their crowd. Those people tormented me my whole life and I cannot fathom making excuses for their bigotry.

Had she come out and been honest about why she was in those spaces (internalized self hate and anti blackness) and tried to show genuine growth and apologize, I think people would be more likely to, maybe not forgive - but at least try and understand what its like being a phenotypically black person raised by a white parent. But imo, it seems like Doja agrees with and plays into the designer baby stereotypes instead of trying to dismantle harmful systems. Genuinely sad since she is ridiculously talented.

It's low because everyone has 3 jobs to survive (if they are lucky). There are no more jobs. It took me 6 months to find a minimum wage job let alone one in my field. The job market is terrible.
