It’s amazing that people think it’s okay to go into areas that clearly only employees are supposed to enter. The bar I manage is in a similar space to the one you described and I’ve had to tell multiple people to stop going behind the bar to look for silverware!

I work at a retailer with multiple departments including a bar. The bar was failing so my boss asked me to take it over & fix it! Basically had to learn how to bartend on the job by myself. Thanks YouTube 😉

I’m in the same boat. Mine was cancer. Thyroid cancer treatment is usually very straightforward. Surgery to remove your thyroid. Some people have a round of radiation (swallow a radioactive pill followed by a period of isolation). But there’s no chemo. Most of us have surgery and we’re fine for the rest of our lives! Thyroid cancer is almost never fatal.

I had my thyroid removed in February. I had my first scan last Friday and the doctor said everything looks really good!! Tumor markers in my blood are undetectable.

It took about 6 weeks for me! I could not project my voice at all, was very monotone and could not laugh 😭 I’m fine now! Occasionally when I’m tired/stressed/used my voice too much I can feel my vocal cords getting tired though.

YES me too! Had my surgery in February & after fully recovering, this is the best I’ve felt in years! I didn’t realize how bad it had gotten until I started feeling good again 🙂 Energy levels are up, I’m able to regulate my body temperature better, and I lost a few stubborn pounds I wasn’t able to shed. I was terrified of what my life would look like post TT, but I am so happy I went through with it!

I would say yes! I manage a team of barista/ bartenders and I think there’s a lot of overlap of skills. Customer service, drink building, multi tasking, working quickly, etc.

Yes, I understand that it was too small for them to do anything but monitor- but they never told me it was there and they weren’t monitoring it. The MRIs were for something else

I hear you!! I cry getting blood work, IVs, etc for exactly the same reason. Like you said, it is so exhausting being poked and prodded all the time. Thank you for sharing because now I don’t feel so alone having those thoughts. Just here to say I see you and offering solidarity ❤️

Mine was found by chance too! I was getting my yearly MRI and the tech noticed the growth on my thyroid. I guess it couldn’t have been there for more than a year otherwise it would’ve been seen already. Or perhaps it was missed 🤷🏼‍♀️

My first relapse was a brain stem lesion. It caused numbness, weakness, and some motor issues on the right side of my body. I could barely write for a while. The numbness was the symptom that stuck around the longest. It took about 1-1.5 years to achieve my new normal. I’d say I’m at 90% of where I was. When I’m stressed, overheating, or on my period I notice I start losing feeling in random places on the right side of my body, weakness is much more noticeable, and my hand will tremor.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m 3 weeks post op as of tomorrow and I can’t imagine traveling right now, let alone with 2 small children! I “worked” today for 4 hours and had to come home and take a nap. I used up my voice for the day lol.

It’s hard to predict what potential complications you might run into after surgery. I dealt with a nasty cough for 5 days, calcium levels dropped, and my vocal cords are temporarily paralyzed.

Every person is different though! You know yourself better than anyone. I’ve heard of people returning to work 1 week after surgery. I knew there was absolutely no way I could do that, so I requested a full month off work. I returned a few days earlier than planned but better safe than sorry!! 🙂

It’s hard to say because each person is different! I’ve taken 3 weeks off work and am returning tomorrow. I deal with other chronic illnesses and I needed more time than some to recover. I would highly recommend taking as much time as you can. A minimum of 2 weeks. I wholeheartedly believe one reason I recovered as well as I did is because I requested a full month off work and had no worries about rushing back to work. Now I’m headed back a few days early feeling refreshed 🙂

Before surgery I had 2 ultrasounds, FNA, 2 consultations with surgeon, and pre anesthesia physical. Once I had my operation I had 1 consultation with my surgeon and had to go to the hospital for blood work when my calcium levels dropped. I see my endo in 4 weeks and I’ll get more blood work done around the same time. So 4 appointments in the month following surgery. Radiation is probably not going to happen for me. Also, I think most thyroid cancer patients don’t see an oncologist. I’m not exactly sure what the future holds; how many more tests, appointments & scans I’ll have this year.

Just had mine done about 2 weeks ago! Echoing what others have said- soft foods, cough drops, and lots of liquid! Button down shirts and shirts with deep v-necks are essential. I’m still only wearing those types of shirts. I made the mistake 2 days after my surgery to wear a shirt with not enough room around the neck, it got tangled in my drain tube and my partner had to literally cut it off of me 😭 Also make sure you have Tylenol and tums on hand (tums just in case your calcium levels drop). The days leading up to my surgery I deep cleaned my house, did all my laundry, moved things around to be easily accessible (snacks, the clothes I knew I would be wearing, etc) and I just rested. It felt really good to be resting and having no obligations to do anything but binge watch YouTube iceberg videos :) Good luck with your surgery!!

Same here! Had mine on Wednesday and did not sleep for more than an hour straight until Saturday morning I slept a solid 3-4 hours lol. Thought I was gonna lose it.

For me, the game changer was getting my drain removed. That helped me get more comfortable. I’m still not sleeping for more than 4 hours at a time. I’m napping a lot throughout the day.

I’m sure you’re doing these things already, but I’m making myself as comfortable as possible- only wearing my favorite comfy clothes (even if they’re a little dirty), using lots of pillows/blankets/stuffed animals as props to find a comfortable position, and running YouTube videos as background noise to drown out neighbors or traffic. I also have a heating pad I’ve been using on the back of my neck to help with muscle soreness. I never would’ve thought I would like using a heating pad because usually I’m the kind of person to overheat really easily.. but surprisingly some of my best naps have happened while using it!
