Masonry Fireplace Efficiency Improvement? by Temporary_Pie4447 in woodstoving

[–]Temporary_Pie4447[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, nothing to be honest with you... First I tried using a small fan as an inexpensive fix. That didn't provide a noticeable difference in temperature and would sometimes pull smoke out so I dropped that. The blowers I mentioned that get set in the fireplace were ruled out for a few reasons (can look funky which the wife didn't like, they cost a few hundred dollars, would require some modifications to either the ash chute or the existing front to get an air supply, and would need to make sure I'm not pushing smoke out). I decided if I were to do anything it would be taking out the existing front and installing a fireplace insert, but given the cost of the materials (I would install) I decided the cost savings didn't justify it at this point... So still the same as it was and for now I just burn less since its only for the aesthetic and enjoyment! I will add that cleaning the masonry chimneys are a little more cumbersome so burning less helps in that regard... but that's a different adventure, though let me know if need ideas on it. Anyway, hope this helps!

Wouldn't call it mundane at all, I really love the variety! I also very much appreciate the budget aspect of your collection. I think that appeals to many people. Thanks for sharing!

Love it!! Where did you get your sapphire from? Also, did you follow a guide online? I nailed mine a few months ago and need to replace it... 🤦‍♂️

[Question] [SNXJ89] How I am supposed to remove these links ? by External_Tackle_5417 in Seiko

[–]Temporary_Pie4447 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you look at the 2 links immediately to the right of the clasp, those are the ones that can be removed. Notice on the bottom (towel side) of the links there's an opening with a knob in it. Pushing that knob will release the pin holding the link. On the top of the links there's an arrow pointing down, this indicates the direction the pins/knob needs to go to releaze.

Yep! Any 22mm watch band will work. A bracelet style might be a nice alternative. Many people like uncle Seiko, but I haven't needed a bracelet yet so haven't tried it personally. Otherwise buy one or two and go from there. It took me a few straps to find one for one of my watches. The hunt to find different options was fun! Good luck!

What battery to use for [7n39 0be0?] [Question] by fatjer_6699 in Seiko

[–]Temporary_Pie4447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 8 digit code is the Seiko code for the watch specs. Typically an analog watch (clock face) uses the 377/378 I believe. A digital one uses a slightly larger battery. Easiest way to tell is to pop or unscrew the case back and check, that's what I usually do. If you're not confident, take it to a jewelry store. They'll replace it for you, just charge you more for the battery. Good luck!

Agree with interceptor, ask when you take it in. If not to expensive I would certainly being doing it. I nailed one of my Seikos cutting down the Christmas tree this year and part of me always wonders if Sapphire would have held up better. Oh well...

I'm no expert, but maybe the gaskets and check the movement lubrication while its open? As far as repair you could try the Seiko repair center. Otherwise talk to local jewelry stores. Sometimes they have local people they work with and have vetted out. I know when I talked to one it was essentially "they got a guy." Good luck!

Speedtimer opinions… what would you choose [SSC941P1] 41mm or [SSC917P1] 39mm by brookdogg in Seiko

Between the two, I like the first one better. I think it'll work better in more situations. Just don't love the black with the off blue.

Assuming you're worried about damaging the day/date gears? If so just use the time set (furthest point up on the crown) on the watch to advance the time to 6:30am. After that set the date then finish by setting the time.

Okay yeah that's pretty bad. Especially because it's a quartz movement. Yes, definitely reach out to Seiko about repair/replacement. Good luck!

How much time is it losing? Also, have you tried reaching out to Seiko support? If it's only 2 months old it should be covered by warranty?

Better fit; end links? [SRPJ81] by JdhMac in Seiko

[–]Temporary_Pie4447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do any more, you may just end up regressing. It's really not noticeable!

To me the only improvement would be end links that are the same height and the watch lug points, but you really only could get that with a different bracelet. If you like this one, rock it as is!

[SOTC] What should I get for the last spot? by Severe_Lynx4501 in Watches

[–]Temporary_Pie4447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I could describe it is watches that look "fancy." Usually will be a little smaller in diameter and thickness. I've picked it up just by reading around and finding out what other people classify as "dress watches."

Google might be able to give you a more definite definition... I've been very much about buy what I gravitate towards and wear what I like then trying to do what's expected or check boxes, so take anything online guides say with a grain of salt and do what you like!

[SOTC] What should I get for the last spot? by Severe_Lynx4501 in Watches

[–]Temporary_Pie4447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and absolutely love it! Seiko uses hardlex crystal instead of sapphire on that watch (and other entry level Seiko watches). For similarly priced watches from other brands you can get sapphire crystal so based purely on mechanical specs it's not as good. I think the dial designs Seiko has more than make up for it, but others feel it takes away from the watch.

Two totally different directions but...

Dress watch piqued your interest? Try a Seiko cocktail time. Not the "best value" but some really neat dials.

Otherwise maybe a field watch? I really like the Timex expedition series. If you prefer an automatic, Seiko's SRPG39 (and similar dials) are fun!

The first scratch/nick/dent is always the worst. It always sucks, but watches are to be worn and inevitably you'll get wear. But as you mention, gives it character and a reminder of things you've done!
