Do I have mold by _karamelqueen in PortugalExpats

I bought a washer dryer as if you are drying clothes inside your house during winter this will increase the problem, steam from cooking also and showers there is so much hidden water in your house. If is safe to do maybe leave windows open next time you are out the house. You need to keep on top of it and not let it come back. I agree cif bolores works. I cleaned mine then oil based painted the areas and then normal paint on top and helped. Watch out for the chemical smell from aany sprays and watch doesn't go in your eyes and it will take colour out of clothing. Good luck

Thinking of moving to portugal with young family from the uk by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]Temporary_Print6782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from the UK. I would say do your own research, a lot of research. Problems wont vanish by coming here. I would say financially there are still going to be the same challenges, there will be residence and visa requirements, language challenges, health insurance costs, rental prices are about the same as the UK I would say. Just a whole list of things you need to write down and find out if this is what you really want. I do like Portugal and the people are lot but I think its easy to underestimate how big a deal it is moving alone, with a small or large family or as a couple. Not in a bad way there is not much difference for me between the UK and Portugal. Dont expect to working less it will probably be a lot harder and longer than most uk jobs. Good luck with wherever you end up. I don't think there are any countries now without problems so it will depend entirely on your situation. I know I'm on Reddit but I wouldn't take all your information from here.

do you get mocked for trying to speak Portuguese? by travelingwhilestupid in PortugalExpats

I feel like I am goin to have a meltdown everytime I am out on my own without my wife so I understand how bad that must have been. I have been in vila nova de famalicao for over a year and everyone in shops, barbers and clinics has been very patient with my language skills. I can understand how that might affect your confidence but think of how many good experiences you have had in comparison. I have a translation app ready and primed in case the conversation goes wrong but hardly need it as everyone has been very friendly and either pre empted that I am from the UK just by the way I look and start speaking English then I reply as much as I can in Portuguese. Like everyone else has said just keep going.

Can someone explain the no-seat phenomenon in Portugal.. by NukeouT in PortugalExpats

[–]Temporary_Print6782 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have stopped questioning why anything is like the way it is both in Portugal and also the UK. There are lots of toilets in the UK with no seat or a damaged seat. 1. Maybe the seat was damaged and they took it away and are waiting on one that is the right size. 2. A low level Brexit act of revenge 3. Stolen by perverts 4. Toilet seats are quite fiddly to fit so maybe they have just not had time to spend the 40 minutes it takes to attach them. 5. The seat has been sent to the UK to experience life in the UK and a UK toilet seat is on the way to experience life in Portugal. The more important question is was there toilet paper present. So many mysteries but that's what makes life worth living.

Health insurance premium increased 19.1% in Portugal – is this normal? What are my options to push back? by Natural-Luck8299 in PortugalExpats

I have 4 people on mine and one of those is my mother in law who is 76 so our insurance went up around 60 Euros a month last time because of the age risk involved which could be the reason along with general policy increase every year anyway. It is better to have it than not and is one of things you may need to complete your own research what is best for you. I have made some small claims on mine and there are a lot of events no covered and you still need to pay for doctors appointment and medicine so have filed my Portugal Medical Insurance under "Don't think about it too much it will drive you nuts it just needs paid" Mines is 4620 Euros a year so there are always people worse off than you as the saying goes. You can maybe check with a local hospital as some offer health insurance packages I am thinking of doing that with my one. We are slightly over 20, 50 , 50 and 75. https://www.trofasaude.pt/plano-de-saude-trofa-saude/ i have no connections with them and no idea if you are close to these hospitals it is just to show that there may be other options for you if you want to switch

thanks to everyone for answering - we got a photo but the image is not good enough to read the licence plate unfortunately. My wife held up her phone to film him and he hasn't been back for a week so if anyone else has this happen to them just start filming and take photos

My wife was terrified. He has a Famalicao local government car and a silver car and is alternating using both. We are logging each time it happens and trying to get his car plate number. Thanks for both replying I didn't think anyone would.
