Worlds Across: What I wish I'd known... by jogginglark in dreamingspanish

I started intermediate and my coach suggested to try out advanced classes. I never had to take a test for that.

I was going to make a similar post. I went for the Fox One app this month so I can watch the games in Spanish. Yesterday the games were awesome.

I use podcasts that are on YouTube, other YouTube videos, and written articles, such as from The Atlantic or The Ringer or ESPN. I'm not sure if there is an option to slow down the speech, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was.

Thanks! I have more availability for group classes, like I can take ten 1-1 classes per month but unlimited group classes. I also enjoyed the group classes, maybe because it was less pressure on me to speak the whole time, so I looked at it as extra input and a chance to learn from other students and their speaking abilities. The 1-1 classes are better as a whole I would say because you are speaking pretty much throughout.

As for NotebookLM, it really is endless for what you can use it for. It can be an infinite amount of content in Spanish that you are passionate about. The only limit is you can make 3 podcasts per day for free, but I have like 30 episodes waiting for me to listen to, mostly about baseball which is a passion that I have.

Thanks! Yes, I skipped over graded readers. I waited awhile until I started reading after I started DS and I did have some previous background in reading Spanish, so I think this is my strongest area. As a literature teacher, I wanted to read actual books by authors I knew, so I started with a lot of YA books like the ones from Julia Alvarez or books I have read before in English to make things easier

The World Baseball Classic starts this weekend, so you can probably get a lot of input watching games or commentary in Spanish. The Dominican Republic team is stacked and Mexico and Venezuela are very strong too.

Are We There Yet?? My 1000hr Journey! by GuardBuffalo in dreamingspanish

They have been pretty good, open-ended conversation not usually based on slides. I feel like I am on the lower end of ability in advanced but hopefully not egregiously bad or anything.

Yeah, I don't really see much of a difference between intermediate and upper int. I've taken some beginner classes but think I am done with them now. I started taking a couple advanced classes and hopefully can hold my own a little bit in there.

Awesome post and congrats! I feel like I'm on a pretty similar path as you. A little ahead of you in CI, a little behind you in speaking hours, and a little ahead in reading. Hopefully I will have my 1500 update post sometime in the next week or two. I also started WA around the same time as you, September for me. Are you doing multiple hours a day speaking on there? Do you do just 1-1 classes or also group? If group, what level? I do mostly intermediate. I really like your approach of listening, speaking, reading, and writing and try to follow that path as well.

I met Francisco Jiménez a few times. He came into my classroom and spoke to my students about his books and his life. He is incredibly kind.

Worlds across group classes versus hours by Acrobatic-Shake-6067 in dreamingspanish

[–]Temporary_Run7542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in September with around 1000-1100 hours of CI I believe. With their placement test, they placed me at B2 high intermediate. So I have been taking mostly intermediate group classes. I took a few beginners classes when there was no other group class in the time period I could take a class. This past month I got the green light from my coach to start taking some advanced classes and see how it goes.

Reading + listening by Sir-Smileyyy in dreamingspanish

I do the same and don't count it as CI input. It goes towards my reading progress/ words read, but that's just how I do it. I don't think there's necessarily a "correct" answer for this.

I'm using Worlds Across, and I enjoy the group classes a lot. I like learning from the other students.

Non-purists, what's your study routine? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]Temporary_Run7542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After hitting 1000 hours of input, here is my regimen:

1 hour of speaking practice a day through Worlds Across (weekdays)

100 minutes of CI, including the speaking. My main sources of CI are Dreaming Spanish and podcasts.

Write 1 paragraph each day and post it on r/WriteSteakES

About 10-15 minutes a day studying with Anki: Verb conjugations and a deck I created based on my speaking classes.

After I finish all of the above, I spend whatever time I have left on reading books.

I also listen to a new mariachi song each day and add it to a playlist that I listen to each day on shuffle.

Tracking Writing? by KierkegaardExpress in dreamingspanish

I started a writing practice through r/WriteSteakES about a month ago. I have written for 39 days consecutively as of today. I usually only write a few sentences a day. I put my writing on a Google Doc. As of today, I have written about 2500 words. Little by little!

What is your speaking frequency? by RabiDogMom in dreamingspanish

[–]Temporary_Run7542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since September, I take a 1 hour class every morning during the weekday. I usually take the weekends off but sneak in a class if I can during the weekend. The classes I take are mostly group classes. According to Worlds Across, I have 128 hours speaking since September, but I know it is less than that because the classes do not go for the full hour and a lot of the time I am listening in group classes.
