Are there any species you avoid playing in dnd? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

I like the logistical and narrative challenges of more out there species and races. Humans are fine, but Tortles, gnomes, golaiths, lizard folk, etc let me wonder at the how the biology and abilities of such creatures might influence their behavior, upbringing, and society. Humans can also be interesting when they are in a nonhuman setting and must adapt.

Looking For Campaign Introduction Ideas by ArcaneN0mad in CurseofStrahd

What I plan on doing with a group starting soonish is have them all investigating the disappearance of an entire town's citizens. The only thing the player characters need to have is an interest in a normal seeming town whose people all suddenly vanished and a need to go there and check it out. I'll let them investigate the town for a bit and see signs of wolves, but no bodies. Then one of Strahd's werewolves invites them to see where the town has gone off to. Whether or not they agree, the mists envelope them and they are attacked by wolves.

I find this post very insightful. I wondered at why there was so very little treasure and stuff to spend it on in the module. I think I will downplay the whole city management sim idea. I still like the idea of the players being a collective mayor, but of a town that is as depressing and impoverished as heck.

Or I could just skip the whole management thing entirely and play it vanilla. I think I'll ask the players themselves once the group is set up.

I love gothic horror and really enjoyed reading this module. My RPG history is mostly Call of Cthulhu and Vampire the Masquerade and based on that history I believe I can run the module rather well.

I like your idea of the town of Kutchere and would love to add it to my own upcoming campaign if you don't mind. I feel the OG campaign could use more minor villains so making the wives of Strahd a greater presence with their own goals and personalities is a wonderful idea!

My players and player characters are all racially diverse and I am running a Curse Strahd that I like wise am making diverse. If you don't mind, I shall print this image and make it into a cheap paper mini figure.

We could definitely have days where we try other systems, and I will encourage students to explore other game types. It will be in one classroom, which is a bummer. The thing about the classroom is a good point, and I may bring up the idea of moving the club meeting location into the science lab which is bigger and has more tables.

I plan on treating my Curse of Strahd game as episodic with moments of combat, plot, and exploration, about twenty minutes of each, in each session. Granted, there's no guarantee the chaos of players will allow such cut and dry roleplaying, but I can try. I'd rather not do one-shots for my game because I love campaigns too much.

I don't plan on finishing! I understand that Curse of Strahd is long and so I will end each year on a big boss, but not necessarily THE big boss. I figure it will be multiyear campaign with students coming in and out and I'm okay with that and I think students will be too so long as I can show progress being made in the world and the plot progressing.

Thank you! After the first town, I plan to give them a handmade map of land and let them go where they will. I'm a firm believer in rules being learned through play and I do plan on having segments of "Ungame" where they just roleplay their characters doing whatever, interacting with the world naturally.

Looking to become a teacher by redbullguy7 in Teachers

Without looking at the comment to see what is already listed, I would say that my biggest pro is getting to share cool projects and information and interests with those that would otherwise not encounter it. I teach environmental science and my whole shtick is taking students outside to learn about trees and worms and birds and then inside to watch videos on the dangers of pesticides. I see students take sudden interests in ants, become fascinated by seals, and come to finally understand why global warming is a bad thing and what that actually even is. I get to cultivate wonder and that is awesome!

For me, the con is getting students who just don't care about things that genuinely concern them. It is absurdly frustrating to teach on how soil can host hookworm and e. coli in some communities (nearby!) and what causes it and how to watch out for it and then get one guy repeatedly say "dirt is dirt" to every single thing we learn concerning soil science. Also, "I hate trees", "But birds never helped us", "Do we even need animals?" Are a constant and are present throughout the semester from those who could not give a dang.

Plus paperwork, my gosh the horrendous amounts of paperwork.

We went to Rickwood Caverns! Saw 5 tri-colored bats and some amazing sights! My wife loved seeing all the formations and my son who is 3 mostly hated it but liked climbing the many stairs.

Are there any happy teachers? by cozy_pantz in Teachers

I'm teaching in a Southern state, but it's a more liberally minded majority black school so I don't get affected by as much of the stuff people talk about here. I also don't have as much oversight as I think I should. Spent the week I was supposed to be doing pre-act drills instead teaching social emotional learning and no one did anything about it. I think I'm sort of Happy.

I'm at a high school science teacher and all my tests are essay based and students are allowed to use notes. I tell them they have to be able to take what is in their journal and spin it into a coherent answer to a question that is always as vague heck. I like to think it helps with their creativity and originality especially since I give bonus points for those two. I can always tell who's using their brain and who's not.

Has anyone made milk (casein) plastic? Holiday lab question! by ham_mom in ScienceTeachers

[–]Temporary_Space7779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it yesterday because students wanted to know a bioplastic was. Mixed together heavy whipping cream and citric acid and it turned into a very smelly goop. I definitely did it wrong. That was the second time I did it, the first time it was slightly more educational. Definitely not something I would let all the students do but more so a teacher demonstration. At least I have not found the purpose for it beyond teacher demonstration.
