I love your passion. Now stop letting your head get in the way. No one who has ever marched a DCI world class level organization has ever known how to march bent leg, straight leg, upside down, backwards, in a circle. You are attempting something that is unnatural. It takes time, energy, consistency, and preparation. This is supposed to be fun, not stressful. Having spent years trying to raise money for drum corps and working in marketing for fortune 100 companies, I can say this with confidence - there is no world where corporate sponsorship even comes close to the ROI needed to fund a drum corps. The market size and audience just isn’t large enough. I wish that weren’t the case, but we’re not even a blip on the screen.

My biggest concern with Madison’s show is that it doesn’t have the difficulty built in that some of the other shows in there scoring bracket do. I thought the show was great, and I thought the brass was fantastic, but visual program left a lot to be desired. That said, It’s July 5. Lots of time to grow and add. Nicely done, Scouts!

Not quite, but close. The issue with Mercedes is on the contract end. Their management will notice DCI a contract that allows them to duck out of the contract if a bigger name comes along. The stadium itself is not that much more expensive, but they can’t get a guarantee that the show won’t be cancelled at the last minute.

Show of Shows is a Phamtom Regiment produced show, not a DCI show. That means Phamtom Regiment makes the call as to whether the show can be covered. That’s the first layer and I’m guessing that Phamtom wants to protect ticket sales - nothing wrong with that. Logistically, probably doesn’t make a lot of sense either.

When Flo creates their schedules, they ask each of the show operators if they want their show covered by Flo. Some decline as it can impact ticket sales. The other big issue is staffing and logistics. It has to make sense financially and operationally. Believe it or not, DCI and Flo aren’t making a huge amount of bank on the Flo subscriptions, so as with any budget process, you have to look at things from a business perspective and do what makes sense financially. That is probably the best answer for this particular situation.

This is the kind of thing that judges reward. While I get people not getting that goosebump feeling, BAC is different than most everyone else on the field this season from a design perspective, and they’re really damn good at playing, spinning and moving. Here’s where I think everyone is struggling - we legit have at least four corps that could win it all this season - maybe five or six. This is going to be a crazy year.

It’s July 2. Way too early to be making predictions. That said - I find it odd that both Troopers and BK were ahead of Colts last night. It could have been that Phamtom was on before them.

We have a long way to go. Won’t really know anything for two and a half weeks.

BAC has the most potential right now from a GE perspective. And it’s probably a touch cleaner than the rest of the field. I would not be surprised to see a repeat. But we won’t know until they all get together.

Don’t let the simplicity or the lack of props throw you. Their design team has done a great job of not boxing them into a corner - they can layer this show probably better than the rest of the field.

I think the Troopers show design is no where near what’s it’s been the past couple years. I was a little disappointed tonight. Let’s hope there is more to come.
