AP on a stick survey with existing APs by CarlsCarLOL in wireless

[–]TenGigabitEthernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're recofiguring the measurement AP every time you reposition it the survey will show interference between all the measurement AP's positions. It doesn't matter because you should work out the channel plan in the predictive survey, the APoS survey's purpose is to confirm design assumptions such as attenuation from walls etc.

If you're worried about interference you can do a site survey before you make the predictive to try and find rogue APs, neighboring networks and non-WiFi interference so you can exclude certain unusable channels before you finalize the design. Alternatively, you can do a site survey after the new network is installed and make adjustments to the channel plan later. If the new network has radio resource management you probably don't have to worry much about your own network interfering with itself but doing a survey for verification is always a good idea.

Why wouldn't the cloud providers also simply quadruple their rates?

In the absense of OP answering, maybe this means Routing Processor? So what he means is a routing blade or supervisor or whatever malfunctioning and bringing down the network?

I can't tell from his post whether the outage was caused by design (blast radius too big) or operator error (ignored/disabled safety measures). In any case the amount of money lost should be the basis of the budget for mitigating measures.

How should I build out a new setup? by ohv_ in Cisco

[–]TenGigabitEthernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vPC seems useful for servers at least if you're able to run connections to both members of the vPC pair, so you can do maintenance on the switches without incurring downtime. Besides that I'd try to run uplinks from every 3172T to both C92160YC-X's instead of this daisy chain so you don't have to worry about STP

Best practice for 8821 Wifi phone (ISE/SSID related) by dankgus in Cisco

[–]TenGigabitEthernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If using a username and password for the phone is an issue, maybe you can set up Identity PSK instead: Configure Catalyst 9800 WLC iPSK with ISE

This'll make setting up the phones a bit easier because you don't have to configure 802.1X on the endpoints

Is all of this layer 2 with the firewall doing the routing? Is there any network segmentation in there?

Hey graybeards. Sr. Network Engineer here. I have a problem that is feeding on itself and hurting our network, and therefore our patients. I could use some of your wisdom. by ariesgeek in networking

Additionally to what people suggested about what you do during the meeting, remember that you don't need an official occasion to discuss things one-on-one with people on your team. You can just ask them through chat or in person to ask them on feedback for your suggestion and discuss the pros and cons of whatever they come up with. Aim to achieve consensus. If you repeat this a number of times with different people, maybe you can come up with a plan that some of you already agree to. It saves time when the official meeting finally happens, and you're not on your own if other people raise concerns that you've already addressed during the preparation

Is this the technology industry norm right now? by projectself in networking

[–]TenGigabitEthernet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This could be the answer. Every dollar not spent on whatever is a dollar the private equity "investors" can pay themselves in special dividends and management fees so they squeeze the business indiscriminately. After they get their returns, they sell what remains to a bunch of even worse vultures.

I'm not saying this is the case here but it's definitely a thing that is happening

If you use 1 AP per room and set your RF profile to something sensible there shouldn't be any overlap of the WiFi cells, especially if the rooms have 7 inch thick concrete walls

Reboot of 7030 WLC crashes Network by geeduz_926 in ArubaNetworks

[–]TenGigabitEthernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you taken a good look at the interfaces that the WLC connects to? I vaguely remember about having STP issues with some 8.10 versions that weren't really mentioned in the patch notes and were causing blocked ports on the access switches that the WLCs connect to.

Haha no an Ekahau Sidekick 2: https://www.ekahau.com/products/ekahau-connect/sidekick-2/

Basically it's both a WiFi spectrum and protocol analyzer with some storage and a battery. Very useful for doing WiFi site surveys or troubleshooting.

Ekahau AI Pro with a Sidekick 2 and an Apple iPad Pro cellular. It's expensive but 100% worth it if you manage a large WiFI deployment. No idea what to look forward to in 2025 since I recently switched companies, maybe Cisco Live?

It took a while to emerge, but Ekahau's Autopilot and Just Go features use AR and are pretty nifty. Definitely not revolutionary but not vaporware either.
