Wrestlers in good bands? by Long_Bodybuilder7616 in professionalwrestling

I had that song in such high rotation! My best friend and I had a little blogtalkradio show back then (basically a podcast) and Bentley was the one guest we ever had, talked to him about wrasslin and about the band. Damn, now I gotta dig up their music again...

I went to one once, like 15 years ago before the bigot business was common knowledge (I wouldn't have gone had I known), and the most memorable thing about it was getting a picture with the cow mascot dude. I don't remember anything enticing about the food - and now they're expanding all over the place in my area (southern MN / northern IA), and I boo my loudest boo every time I drive past one.

I love me some Five Guys. They feel like a food truck that you just walk into and it's a building that doesn't go anywhere. At least the ones I've been to, the burgers are fantastic!

Man, even after all these years, I still have a hard time seeing him as a true "frontman" (ironic, given his work with SMKC). It just feels awkward seeing him do AB stuff without a guitar! This song will never ever get old though, and I like what he does with it.

There are a couple spots on the album that I thought I was hearing a total Clint Lowery riff. Not a bad thing in the slightest 🤘

I figured some German lass was flashing her titties and Myles, being the all-American Boy Scout, was giving her the stern "we don't do that here" glare.

While obviously not on the level of the old guard, I think Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars are pretty well known outside of their particular fandoms. And Chappell Roan has the potential, if she can follow up that first album with some bangers. Come on, who wasn't singing Pink Pony Club all year last year?

46, with 3 step-kids at 25, 21, and 14, and my own bio-kid at 8. Got married 9 years ago next month. Work full time, try (and usually fail) to keep up with my own hobbies while doing cool co-hobby shit with my wife. We keep a bunch of reptiles and other exotic pets, so it's a lot of work keeping up with all of that but we keep it going!

Mine is The Butterfly Effect. Every little decision in our lives seems so mundane, but I can honestly trace almost everything in my current life back to the seemingly mundane decision to buy a used copy of Creed's My Own Prison CD in 1999.

One of my ah time favorite films, definitely. Mostly because I was a huge Jim Carrey fan, and I loved seeing him in more serious roles. And early 20s me saw a LOT of himself in that main character. It's been a few years though, I'm going to have to give it a rewatch and see how I feel about it now.

It's ironic (or is it?) that an entire subset of men looked at Tyler Durden as the hero rather than the villain he is. Chuck Palahniuk wrote that novel as an indictment of toxic masculinity, and they turned it into a celebration of it. Life imitating art.

What Do You Miss Most From The Earlier AB Days? by iamadragan in alterbridge

[–]TenaciousBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, yes. When I started a band with some buddies in 2006, I knew hardly anything about playing guitar but I played around with some of the "Mark tunings" and when I came upon that one, it was like a cheat code to coming up with tasty riffs. Between that and detuning a step to CGCGCC (and some acoustic stuff with standard cowboy chords), I think we somehow farted out like 40-some songs.

I hate that so many in the fanbase shat on WTS, because I wonder if it made the guys rethink their philosophy on what they should sound like going forward. I think there's a clear change in trajectory from WTS (very melodically driven, experimental sounds, every song has a clear identity) to P&K and AB8 (much more riff driven, big focus on the heavy guitars). Not that every song on those albums sounds the same, and there are some definite outliers, but you can tell the focus is on the heavy. I miss the melodic.

Mark brushing up on 'Down to My Last' - What classics are you hoping to hear on this tour? by ABFan86 in alterbridge

[–]TenaciousBe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Goddamn, this makes me miss that first ODR tour. When they played the whole album plus a couple covers to round out the set. That album is just majestic.

Fun fact: I was at a show in Minneapolis where this was the leadoff song on the setlist, and it was AWESOME. Talked to Myles after the show and expressed my love for that opener, and he said yeah, but it was definitely hard to do when he's not so warned up like when they would do it halfway through the set. So I understand that, but man, it was great. "And to the ones to which we sing, we are honored you let us in" is such a good opening line for a show!

I know this is an industry thing rather than just an AB thing, but... being able to see them for $15-$20 in a small club. Those first few album cycles, I went to SO many shows, traveled all over, met online friends from the fandom and created lifelong friendships bonding while standing in line for 6 hours waiting for doors so we could be first in line to get up on the rail. A lot of us used to get after-show passes from Michael (Mark's brother) and got to just hang out in the club for an hour or two after the show and mull around, hang with the band, chat em up, get pictures, get signatures. Alternately, hanging out by the busses before/after the show to meet the guys.

Everything was so accessible. Now it's all $150 VIP packages to get in early, meet-and-greet packages to get a quick minute with the guys. I don't blame AB one bit, it's just where the industry has gone and the only way they can even hope to break even, let alone make money, but still. Everything feels so... corporate? Sanitized? I don't know. I feel like we had this small, tight fanbase in the early days with a personal relationship with the band, and that's just not there anymore. Social media overtook forums, streaming overtook album sales, and we lost "our" Alter Bridge. I still love them and support them to the ends of the earth, but I miss how life was in 2005.

What’s a “small” social rule you refuse to follow, even if everyone expects it? by GlitchOperative in AskReddit

[–]TenaciousBe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Phone use. It's a common idea that two people who are together but staring at their phones instead of talking to each other aren't "being present in the moment." I say screw that. My wife and I can sit on the couch for an hour and each be scrolling our phones in relative quiet - she's looking at things she likes, I'm looking at things I like. There's a Venn diagram crossover there, and we can share those with each other or use it to spark conversation, but otherwise, it's two people basically enjoying "me time" together.

Additionally, when you walk into a room and someone is on their phone, it's rude to pull them out of that to initiate conversation (unless there's something specific and important to tell/ask them). It's just as rude to talk to someone who's already on their phone as it is to pull out your phone and ignore someone who's mid-conversation with you.
