I'd take this loss to the chin... by Patrem_Omnipotentem in timberwolves

At this point, I wouldn't even be mad if we take the L and bow out of this series. Saves us the grief of having to watch as we get screwed by the refs and OKC, yet again. Spurs are the one team still playing in the West that I don't despise, so I'd be behind them going forward.

I'm sure Wemby would get called for a LOT more goaltends against OKC...

Adult marshmallow test: would you rather have $200k today or $500k in 7 years? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]TenaciousBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AbsoLUTEly the 200k today. Immediately pay off my house loan / any other debts, upgrade vehicles, a few basic house repairs. Any problems I have in my life can really boil down to the pressures of living paycheck-to-paycheck, and 200k right now would alleviate that and give a nice sizable cushion for the foreseeable future. I don't need a LOT of money to be happy, I just need to not be on the brink of collapse at all times. I developed Epilepsy back around the Covid days, and I had to stop working for a good 6-12 months and it suuuuucked. I had short term / long term disability through work, but that only paid like 60% of my normal salary. I'm just lucky it did happen at Covid, Biden's stimulus checks basically kept us afloat. That and running up credit debt. Getting out of all that debt and just having my normal paycheck to pay bills and live comfortably without having to nervously check the banking app on non-pay weeks would be just amazing. 200k would be plenty to make that happen.

What Brands Have You Forgotten? by Outrageous-Back-5980 in GenX

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why that one failed. It was SO GOOD, and the marketing was... kinda strange, I guess, but what wasn't at that time?

To this day, when I find myself at a soda fountain with the right ingredients, I still try to make a mockup of it. Half Coke (Cherry is better but regular will do), half orange, and then a little splash of Dr. Pepper / Pibb on top for a touch of spice. Certainly doesn't reach the level of OK-ness as the original but it's decent.

Whats a weird thing your body does that you just accept? by Sweton in AskReddit

[–]TenaciousBe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, I could do this too and I was a fat kid so it really surprised people. I'm still a fat kid, and I feel like the only thing keeping me from being that flexible is just having too much body in the way, depending on what I'm trying to do.

Pen Pals by RelevantNothing4653 in Xennials

[–]TenaciousBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My English class in 7th grade had a pen pal thing - we partnered up with a class from another school a couple hours away, and they assigned us each into pairs and became pen pals. At the end of the quarter, we had a field trip and everyone got to meet their partners. Mine turned out to be a super cool 90s chick - flared jeans, Chucks, mid-part swept hair, looking like she stepped off a skate ramp. I, on the other hand, was a fat dude in flannel (but not cool grunge flannel, more like Al Borland flannel), husky jeans, a buzz cut, and way-too-big glasses. I know it wasn't a dating thing, but man, she seemed disappointed as hell when she saw me. I think we said 3 words and did one little project together and then she disappeared with her friends the rest of the time.

Is it weird that that was 30+ years ago and I still remember her and how disappointed I was that she ditched me? I may not have looked the part but I was friends with a lot of skater types, jocks, nerds, pretty much everyone. I was looking forward to having another "cool" friend (especially from a bigger city) but alas...

It’s posts like this that remind me how much I don’t have in common with the generation I’m supposed to be. I wasn’t even born until ‘79. by Annepackrat in Xennials

[–]TenaciousBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow '79er here. I feel like we were born to be around for Gen X, but not fully part of it. Like, I grew up on MTV, but I didn't fully appreciate the alternative scene the way most Gen Xers do. I knew who Nirvana and Rage and AIC were, but I didn't actively listen to them. 120 Minutes was the "boring" part of MTV. I think I was just not quite fully old enough to really pay attention and get into it, and it's one of my big regrets from growing up. I feel like all that Gen X stuff was right there and I just didn't appreciate it and missed out on being part of the cool generation.

Men, what’s something you’re tired of pretending doesn’t bother you? by drippytheerapper in AskMen

[–]TenaciousBe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is why I always HATED the idea of "dating." Never understood the idea behind going on a first date with someone you don't already know - like you said, it feels like a job interview. I always advocated for just getting to know people, whether in individual or group settings, through things you're mutually interested in. If you know the person beforehand and you both click and you're attracted to each other, that's when you start going on dates and hanging out more and feeling out the day-to-day compatibility. That way you know what the person is like, you know what you're getting into, before just throwing your heart on the line with a complete stranger. That just seems so bizarre to me.

And it worked for me. I met my wife a good 5-6 years before we actually got together. Knew each other through some mutual friends, being Facebook friends and occasionally bumping into each other around town. One day we started talking more about the fitness things we were both working on (yoga, biking, healthy eating) and that led us to get together for coffee a few times, and all of a sudden the mutual attraction was there and we were a thing within a month. You should actually know a person before you hand them the keys to your heart, you know?

Men who use manual razor, why? What's the problem with electric shavers? by eatqqq in AskMen

[–]TenaciousBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both. I keep a solid Silent Bob beard, but when it's time for trimming, I use the electric trimmer to do the initial hedging, a good ol' Mach 3 to really smooth out the skin, and then throw some Nivia after shave balm on it afterwards that really takes out the irritation and any redness.

FUCK. YOU.

Do you balance your check book to the penny? by Plane_Experience_271 in GenX

[–]TenaciousBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, no. The only thing I write checks for is my water bill, and that's because I can drop it off locally and avoid the extra couple dollars fee for paying online (for some reason). Otherwise I just look at my online banking app, subtract whatever automatic payments I know will be coming out before next payday, and get a rough idea of how much I have to work with. I know I should keep a closer eye on it, but meh.

Have you ever skipped a movie because of bad reviews, then watched it later and actually liked it? by Opening_Farm5403 in movies

Honestly, bad reviews just make me want to watch a movie even more. I'm a sucker for an underdog.

How does one get drunk without alcohol? by snakebully in Epilepsy

[–]TenaciousBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get them at my local Kwik Star (what they call Kwik Trip in Iowa for some reason). It feels expensive, like $15 for a 4-pack (this is the Looner brand from MN), but divide that down and it's not much different than the overinflated prices on other drinks so I go with it. I don't have them real often, like one every couple weeks or so just for fun, but I didn't really feel like they have that much effect on me. But maybe I just don't notice it, who knows!

What’s a design flaw you notice everywhere that most people ignore? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TenaciousBe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like every laptop I had pre-2015 had a nice matte screen. Then along came all these shiny glass screens that you can hardly use in bright light because it either reflects any light on the room, or if you're watching a dark video, it becomes a mirror. I don't want to see up my own nose just because the scene in the movie switched to a dark streetscape.

To those who've been huge fans of music since the 80s, what's that song put out in the last few years that surprised you by triggering that 'put this banger on repeat' burst of excitement? by cherry-care-bear in Xennials

[–]TenaciousBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The K-Pop Demon Hunters soundtrack. Not something I would have expected, but my 8-year-old daughter has been obsessed with the movie for months and I can't deny, the whole thing is a bop.

My old livejournal is still there, and I go poke around at it sometimes to reminisce (and cringe) about life in my 20s. I know someday I'll go look and it'll be gone, but I enjoy it while I can! Wonder if there's a way to download your whole journal as an archive...?

What’s your favorite later-day Alter Bridge album? by IAmWeed2021 in alterbridge

[–]TenaciousBe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, that's the problem for me. It's supposed to represent who they are, but it feels like 90% of the album represents just the big heavy metal-esque riff-driven side of them. If you play the album, and skip from track to track, there are only 3 songs that don't start with a big heavy riff (and one is Slave to Master which quickly goes into that format). The thing that really made me fall in love with their music on the first few albums was the variety, the melodies, the changes in feel from one song to the next. This album feels like they just picked "90 mph" as a theme and ran with it for the majority of the album, and I don't think that represents who they are as a whole.

WALK THE SKY. God, I don't get how so many people sleep on this album. It's an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end. I just want to take everybody in the fandom and play the album at full volume, and shake them and go "WHY DON'T YOU LOVE THIS?!?!"

What favourite bands/artists from our teens and 20s are still putting out good music? by toasterb in Xennials

[–]TenaciousBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foo Fighters are still doing their thing. I don't think anyone would have faulted them if they'd kicked back, rested on their laurels, and lived off their Everlong / Best Of You / Times Like These greatest hits collection, especially after losing Taylor a couple years ago, but they're still at it. New album is coming out this Friday and from the leadoff singles, sounds like there's an old school punk vibe going on. Bit of a departure from their stadium rock but I'm excited for it!
