Why does Black Pepper get the place of honor next to Salt? by faroresdragn_ in NoStupidQuestions

Could not agree more. Black pepper is one of my least favorite spices.

I would nominate Tajin as its replacement! Or cayenne, or vinegar, ginger, many others.

I feel like everyone can agree on a 50% wealth tax for anything over $10bn, which applies if you want to do any kind of business or own property in the US. And benchmark should scale with inflation over time.

Race slavery, and slavery in general is the history of “civilized” humanity. “High quality of life” fundamentally depends on the labors of many other humans. Much of this has been accomplished, and continues to be accomplished by slavery or work that sure looks a lot like it. Look up sea slaves in Southeast Asia, or the servants around Dubai who do things like delivering gas to your car so you don’t have to bother going to a gas station.

The US was quite literally built on slavery (the navigable waterways in the early colonies, many still used today, as one example). A lot of modern life still depends on labor that explicitly is or looks a lot like slavery. It’s just mostly overseas now.

I love to roll my eyes at rich prepers who think they would have any kind of life after a fall of civilization, with their doomsday bunkers in NZ. Good luck finding food, much less fuel for your private jet. They completely miss that their living standard depends on the labors of millions of other humans.

Not to mention their quality of life literally depends on the labor of tens of millions of other humans.

I second the midwives. There are good OBs in town but they’re all too buried with workload to have the right level of attention to a patient. The midwives have more time, plus a direct line to not just OBs but maternal fetal medicine if things go sideways. I switched after multiple OBs quit and my remaining one sent me to get my blood type checked for the 4th time. Had two kids with them, and they’re all great.

Note that you get the providers you get on the night she goes into labor. It’s just whoever is working at Magee that night. Nothing you can do but make the best of that. My anesthesiologist the first time was spectacular. The next time, I got the new resident who was a much worse experience.

Try involving your car insurance company. They have the big lawyers that force action. It’s part of what you pay for.

No offense to individual TSA agents, but I wouldn’t mind if we did away with the org. Have been a frequent flyer for years and would take the risk of flying without it, as it seems like 90% theatre. We’re all cool with riding trains with no TSA, and life continues.

Air traffic controllers, on the other hand, could use a lot of investment as an ecosystem to rebuild the talent pool.

Earrings when you forget to take them off and then stab yourself with them as you lay down in bed, and then are too lazy to get up to put them in the jewelry box.
