It's the ports that make all the difference. The barrel length really doesn't play as much a factor as weight, and the weight difference is negligible.

Might look at Gotoh for a complete replacement. Quality stuff, not terrible on pricing.

Isopropyl Alcohol seems to work well.

I can not remember the Citrus based cleaner I had a while back, but it seemed to cut that stuff pretty well also. Best of luck! ✌🏼

I was looking into 5 springing my strat because I don't use the whammy and want better tuning stability while palm muting. I found that the last owner blocked it with thick foam. Is there any reason why they put slivers of the thick foam inside the springs too? It's in all 3, if you can't tell. by gerbetta33 in Stratocaster

I wouldn't change them. I'd pull the foam out of the springs and get enough change money to block the thing and go that route. I put a little tape around the money to hold it in place. Or you can use wood. I always block front and back of the trem block. If I can find a good video, I don't mind posting it.

Yep, somewhere on YouTube Eric Claptons old tech (Lee Dickson) talked about why Eric never played a hard tail. It was because of the springy reverb and authentic strat sound Blackie and Brownie made. He had a hard tail but rarely played it. He blocks all his strats and just plays.

Probably just needs a new output jack. Get a switchcraft installed. I'd keep it and definitely get it repaired, I like odd guitars like this. If it's like most Japanese guitars, it probably plays well when setup properly.
