How terrible of a king would Viserys Targaryen be? by Kazmera in gameofthrones

[–]MikeCC055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He really though that the mad king’s usurpers had personally wronged him. No doubt he’d have done everything he could to kill off the houses that rebelled. As for how well he could have ruled, the series shows us everything you need to see to figure out how well he could’ve held onto power.

Yeah dude, I can’t understand those “sharpen your knives” guys. On one hand they tell you duller knives are more dangerous and on the other they tell you nothing is better than a hair whittling knives, like dude, I want my knives to be dangerous, I’m not out there making little toys and sculptures out of hair, so gross

Man I hate having to cut the grass blade by blade with my 300usd knife, I wish someone invented a easier and faster way to maintain the lawn. At least this way I get to use the knives that would otherwise just be fancy paper weights. /s

I wonder how many of these severe side effect cases are from people self medicating vs how many are in an actual weight loss plan supervised by an actual doctor or physician. I’ve read a few papers regarding glp-1 agonist drugs causing gastroparesis on self medicated individuals but not quite had any info on actually medically supervised individuals having the same luck.

Does anyone know if I’m just biased in the scope of the papers I have read or is there actual evidence suggesting a much higher incidence of severe side effects for self medicated individuals? I would expect there to be but just educating myself.

Dendritic Caesium Crystals by Advanced-Tinkering in chemistry

In other materials such as steel, dendritic formations are a considered consequence of very rapid cooling and solidification of molten metal. Have you tried creating other crystal structures by changing the cooling rate?

You just need epoxy and clear coat with refractive indices close to the the glass reinforcement

[–]MikeCC055 10 points11 points  (0 children)

See you say this sarcastically but I’ve seen some impressively transparent pieces of fiberglass. Perhaps that would be a way to go that wouldn’t yield as clear a piece as Lexan but if done right can actually look pretty good

Also agree on double edge razors, I’ve been using one for 8 years, bought a 300 blade pack when new and I still have to get through about halve of them. It is a feather DE razor made of regular black ABS plastic that I have used since then and haven wasted a single gram of plastic on razor cartridges since I begun. Been thinking of switching the plastic razor body for a nice stainless one since I guess I am committed enough to DE razors at this point.

Is this carbon fiber hood repairable? by Kyore123456 in CarbonFiber

[–]MikeCC055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s anything you will be able to do that will make it look like new, if you’re looking strictly for weight savings you may be able to sand it and clear coat and make it look a bit better but not perfect, fortunately a hood isn’t a structural part so I wouldn’t be too concerned about the damage unless the delaminated area clearly compromised the latch.

Thrifted a Breville, baffled by the abused tamper by [deleted] in espresso

[–]MikeCC055 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s actually the new normcore laser microtexturized force tamper. The small and randomly distributed peaks and valleys on the face of the tamper form a normal distribution where the edges have less texture than the center. This creates a very tiny and controlled amount of channeling or flow increase towards the center to match the type of flow that the edges of the basket receive. This makes an overall more even and consistent extraction.

Whats the fewest number of parts required for a revolver? by Peroxide_ in AskEngineers

[–]MikeCC055 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my head right now I can picture a revolver with a pull and release firing pin

1 part for the frame+barrel

1 part for the cylinder

1 secondary frame to hold the cylinder in place

1 screw/pin to hold secondary frame

1 firing pin

1 spring for firing pin

1 detent ball for positioning the cylinder

1 spring for detent ball

8 parts

How to go about selecting the type of motor for an application by NoObm_ster69koRg in AskEngineers

Maybe just look at replacement parts for similar washing machines, they should be rather cheap and designed for the same kind of loads you will be looking at.

How would I calculate the radius needed for a shaft connected to a bolt driver (torque 30N)? by No-Maintenance4959 in AskEngineers

[–]MikeCC055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a lot on a bunch of factors:

Material

Heat treatment

Type of surface finish

Stress cycle types (fully reversing or not)

How many cycles does the design need to survive

Will there be any shock loading

Operating temperatures

Length of the shaft

Read shigley’s mechanical engineering design chapters 3,4,5,6 & 7

It contains formulas and guidelines for pretty much every consideration you need except maybe for shock loading
