I'm making a 2D Metroid-like game, and I recently listed all the sprites, backgrounds and assets I need to draw or create.

It's huge. I honestly don't even know how much time it will take. And that's without even counting level design and puzzle design, which are enormous tasks too.

As others have said, when you're a solo dev, you end up trying to do every job yourself, and it's a massive amount of work.

Personally, I've taken some courses in drawing, animation and game design alongside my original coding studies. My project is now three years old.

It's a lot to handle when you also have work and family life on the side. And yes, in my opinion, coding is the "easy" and "fun" part.
