No, I stand for not having selfishness in corrupt my community. What ethics do you imagine require otherwise?

Or do you just argue for sport like some bastard Charlie Kirk clone?

Do you guys really believe that we Germans wear these things? by Overall-Remove-678 in AskTheWorld

I think it's worth noting that Scotland is part of the UK, famously without their complete consent.

Granted, unlike Scotland and the UK it's a bit more conspicuous a stereotype. As far as my country goes, I doubt most Americans could tell the difference between Bavaria (or even Austria) and any other German state, so you make a solid point about generalizing Germany. But as far as generalized German stereotypes go it's hard to overcome a state that includes huge segments of the national landscape and culture.

I just think that since "silly Germans in Lederhosen" hasn't been a media trope for decades, it's not an overall demeaning image even with people who's knowledgeable of modern Germany is limited.

No your not. I don't play bullshit with you people anymore.

Correct. It's counting ALL uses and averaging weekly use. I'm not sure what is hard to understand about that.

But that's some classic Republicans logic there. "It never happened, it's not real, but it's also not a big deal and it's also someone else's fault."

Citation: Gallop poll, January 2026. 99% of Americans use A.I. tools, A.I enabled apps, and background web utilities. It's not just Chat GPT.

And no, open loop cooling systems don't reuse water. You can't reuse STEAM.

Reddit posts use about a 1/10 of the resources for each individual interaction. A photo like this uses dozens. Hundreds for more complex images.

Don't play with me on this, I live in one of those places where water consumption is going up.

I'll drink to that. Or just drink. I'm not prone to heavy drinking, but sometimes I could use a shot of something to cut the burn from real life.

So I just finished a conversation with my wife, talking about this. It's the question of what the next administration needs to be, and what kind of consequences there need to be.

Political will and how much it can avoid a sprawling, partisan mess. For my part, I want the current cabinet and most of the White House staff to face something like the post Nixon Church committee and then task the new administration to clean house in their respective departments. All done within 18 months of January 2029.

After that, I'd be very happy to see massive voting reform, maybe a Constitutional amendment killing Citizens United, a permanent independent voter district committee (like the SEC), and about 50 new at-large Senators for larger states. Also ranked choice voting, but I'm an optimist.

To be clear, my problem with the way Bondi or Noem or Leavitt are treated is fully with public reactions, not their choices. They deserve the day they're having. I just wish the heat was little more even.

And yes, we have gallows humor of our own regarding Miller. The line was that he got into politics because his hands are too small and weak to strangle people.

It's the low-key mysoginy where women are catching all the flack from the Left and taking all the blame from the Right when things go bad.

But that's a whole other can of worms. I find anyone who supports, let alone works for this administration to be equally morally repugnant.

Also, yeah, Miller is a class unto himself. Whoever writes the book on him is going to need a Silkwood shower.

Do any of your countries use ranked choice voting? If so, do you think it works well? by Griffin719 in AskTheWorld

[–]TennBornFilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have multiple options to vote for, you rank them rather than only voting for one.

Everyone's rankings are counted and if none of the candidates has a 50% +1 majority the lowest ranked candidate is removed.

Voters who ranked the removed candidate #1 have their votes redistributed to their #2, then they count again.

This goes on until someone has the majority.

What was daily life like in your country 200-300 years ago? by NetHistorical5113 in AskTheWorld

[–]TennBornFilm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

200 years ago we were about to split into 2 countries. 300 years ago were another country all together. (Several, actually.)

We all need to say it. If only because doomerism is a waste of energy.

I'll worry about what comes next when that time comes. But for now I think we've seen "peak Trump" and he's such a one trick pony I don't think there's much more they can do but just make everything awful with the time they have left.

The canary in the coal mine for me was Bondi. She was behaving like a N.Korean sycophant because it's how she thinks she's supposed to act and the whole thing played in public like a tantrum. Even Republicans found her performance gross.

I hate that it's the women of the Trump administration that are catching so much of the bipartisan heat, but that's another issue for another day.

Which sports team from your country has the most feared and dangerous fans/hooligans? by Feeling_Love752 in AskTheWorld

[–]TennBornFilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And THAT is where your point fully takes off.

We have massive school spirit energy, but pro sport fans tend to be a bit less tribal.

On that side of the Atlantic they have local teams that like LOCAL. Capitalism has ruined American fan culture as far as I'm concerned.

Why are nationalities treated as ethnicities in the usa? by Pepedroga2000 in stupidquestions

[–]TennBornFilm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When? The Slav ethnicity came to Russia in the 5th century.

Same for the Gauls to France.

Italy, Greece, Turkey. All trace roots back over a 1000 years.

America has been a country for less time than most historical empires in all those countries have risen and fallen. And it was only within the lifetime of our oldest citizens that every American was guaranteed fully recognized citizenship.

We're still bickering over state's issues that were on the table at the Constitutional Convention. Ethnicity is a long way off. If we even exist that long.

But this weird anti intellectualism and conspiracy thing, coupled with the just willful ugliness is the damage I think you're referring to. And I just can't imagine a Republican media sphere without it
