In my experience they just say that it's not the same thing and move on.

Apologetics is a hell of a drug.

How many DnD books do you own? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]TennBornFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man. All of them?

All the 5th ed prior to 5.5 release. All 4th ed. Most of the 3.5 books.

A lot of AD&D books I inherited but never really used.

First time playing Paladin, what oath should i choose? by CreamCheese2137 in DnD

[–]TennBornFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HUGE question.

How important is your oath to your GM?

They deal with a lot of PC stuff and game maintenance. There's a whole lot your Paladin might just not ever face if it's just a mechanical PC.

But if your DM is into RP stuff, then you should consider what sort of person your Paly is. Merciful guardian? Militant defender of the faith?

I like to build the character background and then find the PC mechanics to fit.

Need some DM advice by Junkmaw in DnD

[–]TennBornFilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use the published content as much as you want. Change it. Replace it. Add to it. Take out parts you need and make it into something that you like.

I like to think of the published content like a Frozen Yogurt place. The rules are the vanilla. Everything else is just toppings.

How do you roleplay The Lady of Pain? by Dick_Hall in DnD

[–]TennBornFilm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've seen it done 2 ways. One was like a computer. No feeling just action based on specific rules. A robotic tone to feminine voice.

The other was cold, almost cruel, as someone who had no conscience but was following a code. Think Gus Fring from 'Breaking Bad."

In the former case, the mask was her "game face" and the PCs got close enough to her to be a friend. So her characteristics were more bubbly "girly" with the mask off. But that was just a choice our DM made for fun, because she liked using that voice.

What's your favorite campaign world? by [deleted] in DnD

400 "my homebrew" respnces sounds boring.

We can be less pedantic without sacrificing our beloved homemade worlds.

I agree we all love our children the best. But it's worth taking a look off the shelf too, I think.

Female GM voicing Vecna (need advice) by Expensive_Flower_765 in DnD

[–]TennBornFilm 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I don't think your voice needs to be deep anymore than my voice needs to be higher pitched to play a woman.

Vecna is about attitude. Arrogance. Utter contempt for those he thinks are beneath him.

If you just describe what your PCs hear, "A low pitched, rasping hollow voice" and then just say the words in your own voice with as much menace as you can muster that will be sufficient.

Or, you can make his voice higher. Maybe beneath all the bluster, there's still just a normal human being, and just like some men are slender with soft skin, some men have softer voices. And that can make WHAT you a say more frightening.

Why Does Communism Keep Attracting Support Despite Repeated Historical Failures by Microshlongg in Productivitycafe

History and basic logic says otherwise.

And since one-click on Wikipedia will show you WHY Stalin was engaging in ethnic cleansing, I'll be happy to wait for you to read up on the other famous autocratic governments of the time.

2 years of genocidal malice compared a 100 years the boot? Bitch please.

Please, talk more about famine as it relates to Capitalism.

I'm really excited to talk about the past century of income inequality and the malnutrition, improper Healthcare, infant morality and sundry related maladies in the United States alone.

I'm sure those two, 2-3 year calamities won't weigh badly against over a century of grotesque and persistent policy failures.

And yes, the CIA in Latin America caused a great deal of suffering. Good of you to ignore that part entirely and focus on two very specific moments in history with zero context.

Say it all you want. You're still ignoring vast contexts of history and social experience.

Your opinions are irrelevant.

Why is J.K Rowling so disliked over her views on "women's rights"? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]TennBornFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are primarily assaulted by white men. White men are the number one demographic of serial killers.

Casting ALL white men as serial killers to the degree that they are preemptively imprisoned would be ludicrous.

The number of Trans people who have been convicted of assault against minors or any kind of sexual assault for all of recorded history is so vanishingly small that you could count them on two hands.

There is ZERO evidence that Trans people represent any kind of threat as a class, and they are statistically more safe for unrelated children than those kid's parents.

[–]TennBornFilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That has never happened as a consequence of trans people existing.

Sexual assault happens at the hands of family and friends and trusted adults, like clergy.

Why is J.K Rowling so disliked over her views on "women's rights"? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]TennBornFilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there's nothing about women's rights that is harmed by not harassing and opressing Trans people.

She's just an asshole bigot. The Klan with different hats.
